Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Game #16 - Detroit Lions (2-13-0) at Dallas Cowboys (9-6-0) - Open Thread

AT
The Lions are down to their last game of the season as they head south to Dallas. The Cowboys are going to be fighting hard for a win for a few reasons. First, a win could get them the NFC East title if Philadelphia were to lose. Also, a win gives them much-needed momentum going into the playoffs. Finally, losing to a last place Lions team would just be embarrassing.

I'm glad this season is coming to an end as it has been a tough one to watch. The inevitable record will likely be a dismal 2-14, putting the Lions in position for next year's #1 draft pick.

So, for the last time in 2006, Detroit goes out there to try and salvage something. At this point, however, hope is lost.

Most of the nation gets to see the Lions get murdered this afternoon.  So while suffering through a 38-0 blowout halfway through the third quarter we get to know that at least 70% of the nation is suffering along with us, or just watching the CBS game.

As usual...
The Lions are managing to blow their draft status again.

Is this good or bad?
I'm glad they're up 13-0, but is it worth the win to blow the number one pick?

by The Prodigy on Dec 31, 2006 1:45 PM EST reply actions

I honestly don't think so
There's no point to win now.  Why couldn't they have played like this all season long when it mattered, now it's just like a slap in the face to everyone.  Why does this always happen?

I can't believe this
The one time when Detroit always plays their best is at the end of the season to screw up the draft status.  Wow.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 31, 2006 3:21 PM EST reply actions

I hope not
I think I'll still take a win and the number two overall draft pick.  At least then we don't have to worry about wasting the pick on Brady Quinn, and let Oakland take in the pretty boy.  I'll take Joe Thomas or Dwayne Jarret.

Not another WR
Millen actually would be run out of town if that happened. I just think the #1 pick has more value.  I actually heard Tampa Bay is interested in trading up to get Quinn, so who knows what could happen.

So many injuries
Looks like Scott will be out for quite some time.

Furrey is doing everything today!

That play by Romo was what Dallas needed
Fumbles in his own endzone picks it up and gets the first.  Two plays later a TD.  Man, so close.

Shoot
Wow, and here comes the Cowboys.  Long TD pass to TO.  Here comes the Lions we know and love after all.

by The Prodigy on Dec 31, 2006 3:52 PM EST reply actions

So close
That last drive by Dallas sums up the entire season.  So close but yet so far away.

All hope not lost yet
Long first down to Roy.  Six minutes to go....
And with the first overall pick in the 2007 draft, the Detroit Lions select...

A Mike Williams sighting!
Well, he didn't drop that one.  Kitna is on fire today.  Plus the receivers look good also.

Let me just say this, I don't think Mike Williams should be cut.  From what I've seen he's got a ton of potential.

What a complete joke
They don't win when it's important, and the only time they do is to screw up draft position that would actually help us.

The worst part about this win...
...is that it all but guarantees Millen will be back.  I can just see him now talking to WCF in their annual meeting, saying that "things are going in the right direction, just look at the Dallas game."  Sad thing is WCF would buy that too.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 31, 2006 4:30 PM EST reply actions

You're probably right....
which makes it all the more important that the "Fire Millen" campaign carries into the offseason.
And with the first overall pick in the 2007 draft, the Detroit Lions select...
