Game time!
Lions start with the ball.

Back-to-back passes
For 2 first downs.  I like it.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:05 PM EST reply actions

Pass knocked down
All passes results in a punt.

I like the gameplan, just bad exuction on the last couple of plays.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:07 PM EST reply actions

Wow
Chester Taylor runs for a first down.  Nice defense

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:14 PM EST reply actions

Big run by Peterson
And Taylor takes it to the 1

Not looking good already.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:18 PM EST reply actions

TD Vikings
It's gonna be another loooooooooooooooooooong day.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:18 PM EST reply actions

Cason had a great return
Up to the 40 but almost took it to the house.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:22 PM EST reply actions

run defence
All the Lions had to do was stop a 3and14 running play and it's 0-0 and they have the ball in good field position.  This is about the worst start we could have had.  They marched on us.  Peterson has his confidence.

Has Cason been playing better lately?  I remeber him having a nice showing in the Packer game too.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 1:26 PM EST reply actions

Interference?
What a bad no call.  That was a text book example of defensive pass interference.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 1:31 PM EST reply actions

I'd say
Refs just haven't been nice to Detroit the last few weeks

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:32 PM EST up reply actions

Pass overthrown in the endzone
4th down, Hanson out for a field goal.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:32 PM EST reply actions

Return goes to the 16
Mr. Irrelevant makes the tackle.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:36 PM EST reply actions

Play calling
Of course if its 3rd and 2 on the 18 and you make the "TD or nothing" pass-play touchdown you look like a genius.  Drive over, lose clock control, settle for a field goal.

Ah well... points is points

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 1:37 PM EST reply actions

2 runs by Peterson makes it 3rd and 6
Ernie Sims puts a big hit on him

End of the 1st quarter

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:38 PM EST reply actions

Mr. Irrelevant
It would make my day to see him have one BIG play.  I love a good underdog story and it seems like he has a good attitude about everything.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 1:40 PM EST reply actions

Sims
Sims made a nice open-field trip-up type tackle on Peterson early in the game.  Hope he can keep it up.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 1:42 PM EST reply actions

Big pass to Aundrae Allison
Jackson hasn't thrown an incompletion yet.  Vikings now down to the Lions 22.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:42 PM EST reply actions

Taylor gets a pass
And gets down to the 1st down marker.

It'll be 3rd and inches.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:44 PM EST reply actions

Tackles
Travis Fisher was in position to make a pretty routine tackle and just sort of smacked a shoulderpad with one hand.  How about a free 25 yards buddy?

Vikings offense is rolling on us.

We need a turnover right now.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 1:46 PM EST reply actions

Delay of game on Minnesota
Big penalty to back them up 5 yards.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:47 PM EST reply actions

How pathetic
Peterson walks into the endzone.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:48 PM EST reply actions

14-3 Vikings lead
Detroit better find the endzone on the next drive.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:49 PM EST reply actions

Pass defense
Doesn't it seem like a lot of QB's have put up insane completion percentages against the lions?

I looked it up.  The Lions pass defense (based on YPG given) is ranked second to worst.  No team has passers complete against them at better than 65% excpet the Lions who allow opposing QB's to complete passes at a 70% clip.  That's what I call soft coverage.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 1:52 PM EST reply actions

Kitna throws up a prayer and Roy makes the catch
Dangerous throw but hey, whatever works.  Lions up to the 50

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:53 PM EST reply actions

Kitna to Roy
Ball all the way down inside the 10.  Flag on the play though

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:53 PM EST reply actions

Penalty is illegal contact
Roy is going off today!

Guess that talk he had with Martz worked.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:54 PM EST reply actions

Play-action
And FitzSimmson gets a catch for the TD.  This is the type of gameplan I like to see.  If the run don't work throw, throw, and throw some more.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:55 PM EST reply actions

Huge drive there
If Detroit doesn't get in the endzone things really start to look bad.  Only a 4-point game now.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:56 PM EST reply actions

Great
Allison returns the kick 103 yards for the TD.  There goes all of that momentum.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 1:58 PM EST reply actions

Jump balls
Throwing prayers to Williams worked pretty well but it just seeths of desperation.

Unreal... 103 yard kickoff return.

Time to see if jump balls to Williams will work again.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 1:59 PM EST reply actions

Hanson
Hanson was right there in position to make a tackle and almost touched him... then got run over by 3 guys.  It was sort of funny.  I'd put that one in the end of the year joke lowlights video.

Can't blame Hanson though... he's getting a little old.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 2:02 PM EST reply actions

Hanson did break his hand
Because of Hester making a move to return a kick earlier this year... so I don't expect him to make any tackles.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 2:03 PM EST reply actions

Kitna sacked inside the 10
Lions have to punt.  Starting to get out of hand now.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 2:04 PM EST reply actions

Crap
Roy is hurt.  Trainers are working on his knee.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 2:06 PM EST reply actions

Woody
The Damien Woody experiment at right tackle scores some negative points.  Lions needed a big play and instead gave up the big play.

It's going to take a stop by defense right now to stay in this game.  If the Vikings hammer us down the field again and score then it's pretty much over.

No more jump balls for Williams... it looks like he hurt his knee.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 2:07 PM EST reply actions

Holding on a big run
Thank you for finally calling it

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 2:08 PM EST reply actions

TD to Bobby Wade
Game/season is officially over.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 2:14 PM EST reply actions

The defense is just doing nothing.
That's a mighty well rested punter on the Viking sideline.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 2:15 PM EST reply actions

At least Roy is back
Can't afford to lose him.  I'm wondering where C.J. is?  Haven't heard his name all day.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 2:17 PM EST reply actions

Kitna hit as he throws
And the ball is picked off.  Now the game is officially over.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 2:23 PM EST reply actions

The Fork
-The O-line is bad.
-Pass coverage is bad.
-Tackling is bad.
-Special teams not so good.

-Quarterback is OK but can he take another season of punnishment next year?

-Recievers are very good.
-Good kicker, good punter.

How much can you really fix in the next draft?

I don't think the Lions are any closer to becomming a good team.  The huge advantage in turn overs that the lions had in the first 8 games were the difference in winning those games... and turnovers are mostly a fluke statistic.

I'm back on the bandwagon for getting rid of Millen.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 2:23 PM EST reply actions

Agreed
Now that we suck again it's back to the 2008 draft and Fire Millen.

Those 6 wins are nothing more than a tease.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 2:25 PM EST reply actions

Touchdown Vikings
35-10 after the extra point.

It was fun while it lasted, but face it, this is a bad team.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 2:29 PM EST reply actions

More on opposing QB completion percentage
I went back as far as 1996 and no team was worse than 65% on this stat.  Lions are at 70% and could possibly be worse at the end of the game.

They could be on their way to owning a record here.  Again... that's some soft soft coverage.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 2:38 PM EST reply actions

Jimmy Johnson
Jimmy:  I'm never picking the Lions to win again.

Now that about sums it up.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 2:49 PM EST reply actions

Hey Sean
You quiting?  Come on ... nothing like a little wallowing in misery once in awhile.  It's just another season of building hopes and then crushing them.  It's the usual Lions thing.

Next comes untelevised home games due to the stadium not selling out.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 2:59 PM EST reply actions

Touchdown vikings
Adrian Peterson scores to make it 42-10.

Besides playing terribly the Lions are also giving up.  This really means the season is over.  The Lions are mentally defeated too.

An entire half of football left and they flat out give up.  The 'D' is pretty much just going through the motions.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 3:02 PM EST reply actions

Back on offense
Kitna throws a five yard no drop quick pass and still gets plowed.  The O-Line has got to be able to keep guys off him for 2 seconds.

The refs take 6 seconds off the clock... trying to end the missery a little quicker.

Kitna sacked.  Giving up.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 3:06 PM EST reply actions

Thow away
Kitna throws it away to avoid a sack.

Lions lose field position and punt.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 3:07 PM EST reply actions

Rushing
Lions have completely and utterly abandoned the run.  2 runs for 4 yards... for the entire game so far.

I understand that when you are playing from behind you have to pass the ball but isn't that only true if you think you can still win the game?

The Lions aren't winning this game... not once in a thousand alternate universes.  Why not try just putting a balanced offense on the field and running some plays?  Only good things could come from it.

Just sayin.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 3:12 PM EST reply actions

Now that's just mean
Lions are about to force the Vikings to kick (field goal, not punt) and the Vikes fake it.  Up 42-10 and they fake it... for a 20 yard gain and a first down.

Wow... how about a some salt for those gaping wounds?

Vikings get their just deserts and Fisher picks off a pass.  Karma is a bitch boys.

Tavaris Jackson is passing at a 77% clip.

Furrey makes catch, hit ground, lays there a minute, flips ball away, no whistle, Vikings pick up the ball and run it back to the Lions 5 yardline.  Kitna makes the takle... sort of.

Replay clearly shows that a defenders foot kicks Furrey in the ass while he's down but the official review goes on and on for like 10 minutes.

And...... Furrey called down by contact... no fumble.  The crowd boos loudly.  What a bunch of tools.  Evidentally they want blood.  I don't think the Lions have much more to give.

We appologise to the citizens of Rome.

4thQ
The 4th Quarter finally arrives.  Lions 2nd and 3.

False start.  2nd and 8.

Pass Pass Pass.  Lions now have 2 rushes for 1 yard.

Kitna throws it away to avoid a sack.  It get caught some how for 5 yards.

3rd and 8.

Pass... wide open... hit in chest... Calvin Johnson drops it.

Lions go for it... 4th and 3.

Pass to Johnson... he catches it this time... 1st down.

Kitna pounded while throwing the ball. Was his arm going forward?  Only another time out and review can tell.

Being pissed off and bored at the same time is sort of a new combination of emotions.  Thanks Lions.

Johnson

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 3:36 PM EST reply actions

The review
Another ten minutes go by as officials review the play.  Overturned.  It's a fumble.  By some strange rule the Vikings don't get the ball.

Anouncers are befuddled as to what happened as are several million viewers.

Game continues... More unsportsmanlike behavior by the Lions.  They get flagged.  15 yard penalty.

4th and 31... I feel sick.

Play is stopped.  Nobody knows what down it is... aparrently it's 3rd down.

Pass. to Cason... Kitna goes down...  Limps off.

3rd and forever.  Lions punt.

Don't be surprised if Kitna doesn't return.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 3:43 PM EST reply actions

JT
JT Osullivan is spotted warming up on the side lines.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 3:44 PM EST reply actions

Vikings run
Vikings running the ball now.  Eating clock.

They now have over 200 rushing yards.

More than 200x what the Lions have.

Something in the back of my throat tastes like breakfast.

by tbranch on Dec 2, 2007 3:47 PM EST reply actions

Jackson
Tarvis Jackson down to 73% completions.

Lions hold up against a few runs and Vikings punt with 4 minutes left.  Touchback.

Lets see what JT can do.

Correction ... Lions have 1 yard on the 3 rushes.
.33 yard per rush.  Impressive.

Thanks for continuing the updates tbranch
I just couldn't take it anymore and had to get some other things done.

Another pathetic road effort means a 4th straight loss.  Stick a fork in this team because they are done.

I'm down for firing up the "Fire Millen" campaign again.

by Sean Yuille on Dec 2, 2007 4:00 PM EST reply actions

Duckett
TJ runs for 18 yards.

Duckett for another 4.

Pitch to Duckett for zero gain.

3rd and 6.  Two minute warning.

Well it seems that Osullivan is only trusted to make handoffs.  This should really help him develop as a quaterback.

The first rush surprised the Vikings.
The second rush... what?  Two in a row? 4 yards aint bad.  Three rushes in a row?  Okay... that's enough... stuffed.

Osullivan in the shotgun.  Drops it.  Punt Time!

Nick Harris pins it inside the 10 and establishes himself as the Lions player of the game.

I'm outa here.  Gotta go clean up around the toilet.

Tony Romo is giving me nightmares already
