New GM Lives in Nashville, Commutes to Bristol

It's a no-brainer (common in Lions front office), the Detroit Lions new GM lives in Nashville, TN and currently commutes to Bristol, CT on weekends.  His name is Floyd Reese and he wants the job!

I grew up a life-long Detroit fan and have seen my share of winners and losers.  I also lived in the Nashville area when the Oilers moved to Nashville, and I followed the team as they became the Titans.  The Titans have had their share of up's and downs as well  They have been to the Super Bowl once and this year maybe again?  Floyd Reese and Jeff Fisher are the reason why.  The key to the Titans success have been consistent above average drafts.  The key to the Lions lack of success have been consistent below average drafts.  If you don't believe me look it up and research it.

The Roy Williams draft and then trade was the smartest thing the Lions have done since drafting Barry Sanders.  It gave the Lions the opportunity to begin the rebuilding process.  And at this point in the 2008/2009 season that is all us Lions fans have to look forward to.  On draft day the Lions war room needs to be filled with competent and experienced people who have a solid plan for choosing their top choices, as well as knowledge of the later round unknowns.  Floyd Reese can put that team together - been there done that and he has the tee shirt #9!

Given the amount of high draft picks the Lions will have in 2009 it is essential that the process begins now.  A new philosophy must be instilled and there are players to be evaluated both old and new  - "Build it and they will come".

I Agree

I am a huge Titans fan but i live in Michigan. When the Lions fired Millen the first thing i told my friends is to forget about all the Bill Cowher stuff and really think about Reese. The guy built a winner in tennessee that has had its ups and downs but at least is always competitive. I would love to see him get hired here so maybe i could have good football somewhere in this state. Aside from MSU

They weren't "always competitive"

The Titans’ 2004 and 2005 seasons, where they went 5-11 and 4-12 after going 12-4 in 2003, were a DIRECT result of Reese as GM. He wrote player contracts that ate all of the salary cap, forcing the team to shed all of its stars because it could no longer afford to pay them.

He has an eye for talent, but teams he manages will be very boom-and-bust rather than stable.

they didnt win alot

but at least they werent getting consistently killed like a certain detroit team does every week. as far as the contracts go sure we got into cap hell but we were able to shed it and build a winner. we didnt win alot of games but at least we were competitive. oh and didnt draft bust after bust after bust after bust etc

I hope you have better luck with him

than we did. He couldn’t get on the same page with Fish and that was ultimately his demise. That and someone had to take the fall for being in salary cap hell.

The PAIN TRAIN is comin baby!
