could rod stay as a defensive coordinator? my view!

i know that it is very very rare for something like this to happen but his dedication to making the lions a better team ( even though there have been no results) is very impressive to me and i think there is a small chance that if asked he would stay on as the asst head coach defensive coordinator. i unlike many lions fans actually like rod i just think his offensive and defensive coordinators are jokes. jim colletto may have a super bowl ring but it was with one of the worst offenses to ever win a super bowl there is no way he should be running any thing more then the offensive line. joe barry is in the same exact boat he is 1 level higher then he should be and should be nothing but a linebacker coach (and a great husband to rods daughter, f**k rob parker)for now. Rod is close to becoming nfl caliber but just not quite there but the players love him and he does get through to them better then any coach since fontz.                                                   that being said i think we need to make a true bid for mike lombardi for our general manager and josh mcdaniels for the head coaching job and i believe adding matt cassel and then drafting defense could be our ticket. i dont want to waste a first round pick on a quarterback, especially since soo many fail for such a high price.

no offense...

but there’s no way that will happen and no way that should happen. For one, Marinelli should never be allower to “hold the course” with another nfl team again. I feel that he is just as responsible as Millen and WCF for the atrocity of a season that just ended. I mean c’mon, Chuck Darby as a replacement for Shaun Rogers. What a fucking joke. No one he brought in made even a small impact, short of Dewayne White. So Marinelli should go back to being a dline coach where he belongs.

Bye bye Rod

We should have never brought him here to begin with. His record has always been mediocre at best. We need to break that mold and bring in people with winning records and attitudes. Cowher for GM and either Jim Harbough or Kirk Gibson for coach. I know Gibson has no experience, but neither did Bill Lambeer when he took over the Shock. What Gibson and Harbough have are winninig and no nonsense attitudes. I don’t see it as far a stretch as hiring Millen for GM. I always thought Millen would have made a better coach, but even then, I was’nt sold on him either. He clearly made no committment to Detroit. He would’nt even live here.

NO!

Completely clean house 9I wish we could include Ford Sr in that) and start over from scratch. New front office, new coaches and mostly new players.

Hell Yeah!!

I loved Wayne Fontes as a kid. I thought he was the only coach that could get us to the playoffs every year. Maybe he should be GM.

i love rod, heterosexually.

the guy never had a chance as a head coach, the team was in such disarray. the Tampa 2 rejects didnt work out, but we had no other real options. i wish he could stay on as a coordinator, he’s gonna get hired immediately somewhere else as one, but i think the coaching staff is going to get cleaned out.

i’m not buying the whole “attitude approach” to hiring our next head coach. if there was anything you can give rod credit for, its that he was a tough SOB who wanted to win. i remember reading reports from preseason camp where he had the whole team in pads from day 1 knocking the crap out of one another. i’ll never question his attitude or desire to win, we just had garbage as far as talent. i wish millen could catch more of the blame for 0-16 than marinelli.

i have no idea of who our next head coach will be, i think whoever the GM is and whatever their approach is will dictate the hire.

nope I agree!!!

I think that Marinelli would make a great DC. His dedication to just getting one win impressed the hell out of me. Bringing in Mcdaniels would be good too for HC. I dont think NE will get rid of Cassel since Brady might not be back for 2009.
