Lions Receive Permission to Interview Steve Spagnuolo
Adam Schefter has another report on the Lions' coaching search, and this one is much better news.
The Lions requested and received permission Monday to interview New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who is regarded as one of the pre-eminent coaching candidates this offseason. Spagnuolo must interview with the Lions this week, during the Giants’ bye, before New York ramps up its preparations for a divisional playoff game next Sunday.
Plus, the Lions are not the only interested team. The Browns also plan to ask for permission to interview Spagnuolo, if they haven’t done so already. St. Louis is also thought to be in the mix.
There's not much else to add other than that Spagnuolo is at the top of my wishlist of candidates. The Giants' defense has been very good the last two seasons, and Spagnuolo won a Super Bowl with New York last season. It'll be tough to land him with other teams interested, but the Lions should definitely go after him.

Question
This sounds great and all, but do you really think that he’ll want the Detroit job (if he gets offered it) over the other openings this offseason (I’m guessing he’ll get more offers)?Jobs in other cities (Cleveland and Jets, for example) seem much more appealing than coming and taking over this mess. I don’t know though.
Yeah, but on the other hand...
there is no place to go but up in Detroit! Ya gotta look at the positive! If you come to Detroit and win 3 or 4 games, your set. Hell if you win 5 or 6 you will get the key to the city. Go 8-8 job security for at least 3 more seasons, go the playoffs and win a game….I don’t even know what would happen there. The City of Detroit would probably collectively bow in your presence and name you Caesar.
And he could run for mayor
If anyone could go to the playoffs with this team, I would definitely vote for them
Don't take Spags!
no, but seriously, I’m rooting for the Lions to get better fast anyway, but if Spags goes there the Lions will become my second favorite NFL team. He’s a class act and a hell of a coordinator.
My ideal candidate
PLEASE get Spags in here. We need a tough, defensive minded coach. I can only hope we get him.
