Bowles Meets The Media
Speaking on defense...
Todd Bowles had a second interview and met with the media today. Here's a snippet posted by Killer over at MLive...
Bowles also said that he would like to change Detroit's defense from a 4-3 scheme to a 3-4 alignment.
"Defensively, I've come from a 3-4 scheme -- I've been in a 4-3 scheme -- you want to have the personnel to fit what you do,'' Bowles said. "If you don't, you can have a hybrid version of a 4-3 until you can get a 3-4 scheme in place. I've coached in the 4-3, too, so if Ernie (Sims) or (Cliff) Avril don't fit a 3-4, we'll play a 4-3.
"I'll be working toward (a 3-4) as long as I have the personnel.''
Music to my ears. I love the 3-4 defense.

I agree
I think that Avril could actually play rush LB in a 3-4. Simms might be able to handle one of the middle positions. I would love the lions to switch to a 3-4. I mean look at the steelers and the dolphins and Ravens. We could try to get Bart Scott in FA as well

Yeah, I think Avril...
could excel at the OLB in a 3-4. I’d love to get that scheme here.

Just did a quick search
He was an OLB/DE coming out of college. His size and speed would be great for a rush LB.
