Cardinals vs Eagles, who do you root for?
I'm strangely fascinated by the NFC Championship game occurring this weekend, with my interest going far beyond just wanting to see who goes to the Super Bowl.
Part of that comes from the fact that, if you believed all the experts and the hype, neither of these should still be standing, making this a fight between two underdogs to see who gets a chance at becoming top dog.
Mostly, however, I'm interested because of who these teams are, and the story players and coaches on each side.
I could very well justify rooting for Arizona on the grounds alone that a Cardinals berth in the Super Bowl gives a Lions fan hope, that someday, our team, too, might rise above DECADES of suckitude and ascend to the promised land. But that would be to ignore stories like Edgerrin James, chucked overboard for a younger, shinier running back in Indianapolis. Or Kurt Warner, who took the Rams to two Super Bowls, before being jettisoned to the Giants, and there being replaced by a younger shinier quarterback.
But then you have the other side, and the Eagles, featuring none other than Marty Morningweh as offensive coordinator. Ok, so he was an abject failure as a head man, but, as with Marinelli, I might be willing to give him a pass as he had to lead the steaming mass of mediocrity that is the Lions.
Even past that, there's Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb, who despite all the catcalls they have gone through over the past 9 years, starting from the moment McNabb was booed by Philly fans at the NFL draft when his was announced as the 5th pick in the draft. They were headed out the door when they tied the Bengals. Now, they're a win away from the Super Bowl, which would be their second appearance in 4 year, having already acheived their 5th NFC Conference game in 8 years - or as one of the espn morning guys pointed out, every year that McNabb's been healthy, minus the year where TO started doing pushups on his driveway rather than play for the Eagles.
So, who are you rooting for? At this point, I really don't know...

I really don't care one way or the other
But there are more Michigan players on Arizona, so I guess I’d rather see the Cardinals win. Then again, an all-Pennsylvania Super Bowl would be very interesting. And Andy Reid’s beard can’t go away yet.

I always root for...
the best team to win… except when the Lions are playing. Then I root for them :)
Seriously though, Philly is a much better team than Arizona. Arizona has played well in the playoffs, but really New York, Philly and Carolina are much better teams. No way they get the win Sunday.
It’ll be what Pennsylvania fans have rooted for since the beginning of time… their version of the Subway Series… Philly versus Pittsburgh. That would be a good game, too.
I see Pittsburgh winning it all… again.

Eagles baby...
For a couple of reasons. I’ve always liked the eagles since McNabb’s played there, so this year when he was getting all kinds of crap I really started to root for them. Also, if it wasn’t for them, the Cowboys would be in the playoffs and the lions would have a lower pick in return, besides the fact that I hate the Cowboys.
As far as the rooting for Arizona because it gives us hope, I don’t feel that way I guess. Do I have hope in the lions turning around after seeing the Dolphins win the AFC East, yeah. But the Cardinals have gotten lucky this year, which the Dolphins did not. They played in the worst division, they squeeked past an evenly matched team in the Falcons and they caught the Panthers sleeping this past week. It also doesn’t hurt that they have a guy named Kurt Warner chucking balls to Fitzgerald and Boldin.
Ultimately, I have the Eagles and Steelers going to Tampa, even though the AFC championship game is going to be WWIII, and the Eagles beating the Steelers in an upset due to the fact that the Eagles will stop the Steelers offense and McNabb will work his magic and find a way to beat that Steeler D.

Arizona
Philly fans are right below New York and Boston fans as most annoying and they probably get the top spot for being complete jerks.
Throwing batteries at players and cheering Michael Irvin when he was lying motionless on the ground (regardless how you feel about they Cowboys or the guy, he was not moving and had to be carried off on a stretcher). For that, I rout against them.
You stay classy, Philly fans.

Anyone but Philadephia
I’ve been to Philly for one each of a baseball and football game (Veterans Stadium). I was afraid for my life sitting in the stands. Being threatened physically, having people throw stuff (beer, food), spit at you. Disgusting. I’ll never root for any Philly team as long as I live. Even if the Eagles are playing the Cowboys or the Phillies are playing the Yankees. Not gonna happen.
