Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

With Bradford staying I doubt Sanchez will be around until the 20th pick, but if he slips that far, I wouldn't necessarily be against the Lions taking him.

Better option

I have to say I’d very much prefer Sanchez at #20 than Stafford at #1

Question..

Is there any way possible that Sanchez will be available in the 2nd round ?

Whether it be this year, next year, or 50 years from now. The Detroit Lions will eventually win a Super Bowl............I f'n hope.

No way

He’ll probably be the second QB taken now.

agreed

in fact, with minnesota, ny jets, and kc all picking ahead of the lions at 20, he’ll probably be gone by then too. barring a trade, the most realistic chance that he ends up on the lions is if he blows away stafford in the workouts and grades out high enough to go #1 overall.

Freeman!!!

To be honest I would prefer us trying to get Josh Freeman in the 2nd round over any of these quarterbacks

Just think!!!

Cullpepper is most likely gonna be around next year and maybe longer depending on how he does next year. Josh Freeman is pretty much his clone and before Culpepper hurt his knee he was pro bowl material. I think that if Freeman learns behind Culpepper he could be very good for the lions. Imagine the 6-6 Freeman throwing to the 6-5 Johnson.

culpepper blows

i’m sorry but all this culpepper love is hurting my soul. he needs to go. he flat out sucks. he’s sucked since before he hurt his knee. he made a career out of throwing up jump balls to randy moss and was exposed as soon as he didn’t have him anymore. signing him was the darkest moment of my life as a lions fan that didn’t involve matt millen (and to be honest i still think he was somehow involved). i wouldn’t want anyone learning anything from him. if we’re gonna keep anyone to mentor a future qb it should be kitna.

i don’t know much about freeman so i’ll reserve my judgement on him until i do but if he’s a culpepper clone i don’t want him anywhere near this team.

I go to a MAC school (WMU), so I have to plug Nate Davis

If you really want to go the route of waiting on a quarterback until round 3 or 4 and hoping to pick up a steal, you have to look at Davis. MAC quarterbacks have had mixed success in the NFL (cheers to Rothlisberger, jeers to Leftwich, head scratching on Pennington). Davis has a quick release and found success this season.

On the plus side, it doesn’t mean we have to give up on Stanton, as opposed to a first round quarterback, which would essentially be an admittance that Stanton was a mistake and there would be no way to bring him back into the fold then.

However it does take up another roster spot, and a proven veteran may be a better route to go for backup quarterbacks at this point.

So either way, it is not the best situation, but who ever said the Lions were ever in a good situation.

Nate Davis

He seems like he’d be a major project, which I’m not sure is what the Lions want to go with after this two year Stanton disaster. I think Davis would be a good pick though, I’ve seen him play and he has a lot of poise.

Curtis Painter, Purdue

Should be available in the later rounds. or Take Curry or Orapko 1st then snag Sanchez, if he’s still there, at #20.

A Sign!!

I just read that Matt Stafford went to the same High School as Bobby Layne. Since last year was the last year of the bobby layne curse could it be a sign that we should draft Stafford. One of the things that Schwartz said in the interview was that we need to find the next Bobby Layne for the lions. I am not so high on Stafford however I have that feeling that we will more than likely draft him.
