Linehan and Culpepper reunited
Sources: Linehan to coach Lions' offense
Comment Email Print ESPN.com news servicesScott Linehan, the former St. Louis Rams coach who tun red down the San Francisco 49ers' offer to become their offensive coordinator, has agreed to join the Lions in that position, team sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen on Friday.
Linehan declined the 49ers' offer Sunday, saying he wasn't ready to commit to his next coaching move.
Linehan, a respected offensive coordinator for Miami and Minnesota, was fired four games into his third season as the Rams' coach last September.
I'm definitely happy with the move. Schwartz has brought in some real experience with his staff choices. Any thoughts on Culpepper's status now that he's reunited with his old OC?

Culpepper!!
I think Culpepper will be our starter next season and if he does well then we will keep him for a few more years. Now we can wait till next year or the year after to draft a QB.
Shoot me in the face
Culpepper is a piece of trash. Linehan has done nothing since Minnesota. Basically, outside of bringing Martz back, this is about the worst possible hire that could have been made.
I am really, really, really disappointed.

Rams and Dolphins
Linehan pounds the football thats why he’s here, please don’t compare him with Martz
That surprises me, Ty
That you are so up in arms over Linehan. He was the best offensive candidate out there. Aside from his poor head coach showing, Linehan was an excellent coordinator. He was very good at utilizing his talent and putting them in the best situation to succeed. Not just in Minny, but in Miami the year before he got his HC gig. He’s versatile and won’t be asked to bring a specific scheme. He will run what Schwartz wants and just be asked to execute and utilize the weapons we have.
Not a bad hire if you ask me.
Good move
We have the makings of a good coaching staff, something we have not had in years. I also think we can wait till next year for a QB. much more depth then.

He's still gone
I think Schwartz brought Linehan over for his running game not to pare him back with Culpepper, Linehan ran Jackson over 330 times, think back to Dolphins he pounded teams with Brown and Williams, we lions fans always talked about a running game well we now have a proven OC that knows how to pound the football. You heard it here 1st lions resign norris the FB and make Felton the change of pace back to kevin smith, combined the 2 should where defences down to make plays open for megatron!!!! let me know
Scwhartz's philosophy is stop the run and run the ball
So you could be right.

As I said elsewhere, good choice in Linehan
He may not have been a great head coach but he is a very good coordinator and has a lot of experience working with QB’s. If they do end up taking Stafford #1, he a good choice to teach him how to be an NFL QB. My hope, however, is that they dump Culpepper and use either Kitna, Stanton or sign Orlovsky for another year and take a QB later in the draft or wait until next year to take one. Only time will tell.
