Lions' List of Head Coach Candidates (Updated on Jan. 6)
Since there have been so many changes since I originally posted this, below is an updated version of the Lions' list of head coach candidates. I decided to go ahead and add Brian Billick to the list, even though there are conflicting reports about whether or not he is actually a candidate. I tend to think he isn't, but I added him to the list anyways. I did the same with Jim Harbaugh, though I don't want to believe he is actually a candidate.
Anyways, here is the updated version of the list:
| Coach | Team | Current Job |
Interview |
| Brian Billick | None | Color commentator for FOX | TBD |
| Todd Bowles | Dolphins | Assistant/Secondary Coach | Yes (January 7) |
| Leslie Frazier | Vikings | Defensive Coordinator | Yes (January 9) |
| Jason Garrett | Cowboys | Offensive Coordinator | Yes (January 5) |
| Jerry Gray | Redskins | Secondary Coach | Yes (January 2) |
| Jim Harbaugh | Stanford | Head Coach | TBD |
| Mike Heimerdinger | Titans | Offensive Coordinator | TBD |
| Josh McDaniels | Patriots | Offensive Coordinator | TBD |
| Mike Mularkey | Falcons | Offensive Coordinator | TBD |
| Ron Rivera | Chargers | Defensive Coordinator | TBD |
| Rex Ryan | Ravens | Defensive Coordinator | TBD |
| Jim Schwartz | Titans | Defensive Coordinator | Yes (January 3) |
| Mike Shanahan | None | None | TBD |

I want them to hire a defense guy
My order would be Ryan, Spagnuolo, Schwartz and Rivera. I hope they don’t interview Harbaugh or Bowles. Decent list of candidates, though. I think a lot of them will be heading up teams next season.

Picking Harbaugh for the Lions coach probably wouldn’t be a good move, I agree…but, I gotta say, the guy has an eternal spot in my book and in my heart…
One of my all time fave games, any sport, was his “snowball’s chance in hell game”….1986, Ohio State is rampaging over everybody, and this guy guarantees victory, saying he doesn’t care that the game is in Columbus, he wouldn’t care if it was in the parking lot or wherever, a truly ridiculous over the top bulletin board X 10 guarantee of victory, but I’ll be damned if he didn’t go down there and pull off the upset.
When you’re 11, that’s the kind of thing that makes an athlete into a hero….

Cal v. Stanford
I think Spags is the hotter commodity, so I wouldn’t mind seeing Rivera get it. I was at Cal with him. He could play, and he can coach. And since I live a few minutes from Stanford, lemme also say that the Lions can have tha guy too. He’s got the farm on the upswing, so as a Cal grad, I can take my chances that an eventual replacement would send the cardinal back to the bottom, instead of challenging my beloved Golden Bears for heartbreak supremacy. Lions, Tigers, and Bears. I still have the Dodgers too, though. Oh my.
What I can’t yet understand is why anyone would want the Lions job knowing WCFord Field and the lewand/mayhew tag team is still in charge…?

Ravens & Eagles
Pull for the Ravens and Eagles to with this weekend. Then the Lions could interview Schwartz and Spagnuolo.
