Thursday Notes: Kevin Smith Returns to Practice
- Kevin Smith returned to practice today, which hopefully is a sign that he will play on Sunday against the Bears.
- Three offensive players for the Lions have won the NFL's Rookie of the Month Award before, but Louis Delmas is the first defensive player to receive that honor.
- Larry Foote and Julian Peterson have been talking a lot of trash this week in anticipation of the Michigan-Michigan State game. I'd imagine the two will set up some sort of friendly wager on the game.
- Barry Sanders was recently interviewed by The Football Girl.
- The Red Wings play their first game of the 2009-10 season tomorrow in Sweden. Check out Winging It In Motown for full coverage of the Red Wings.

Good News..
Good to hear Kevin Smith is back in practice, he will give the Lions the best chance to compete on Sunday vs. the Bears.
Also, great to here the Delams was Rookie of the Month! It is good to hear positive things coming from the Detroit Lions in the media.
Keep it up boys

lol...
who thinks that delmas will be a better NFL player than stafford?

Man latif
since they are both QB’s on their respective sides of the ball, how are you going to judge between the two of them? Staff infection is going to have more of the spot light on him, but Delmas could eazily be the longer lifed player, If Delmas can be close to the caliber that say Ed Reed or what ever safety you think is the shizz-nit then he could be but I would lay money on Staff infection, over the long haul, just because offencive players usually get all the attention.

You got your awards confused
Either there where three with rookie of the month or you need to rephrase that sentence since Delmas won rookie of the month.

3 offensive players have won rookie of the month honors for the Lions in the past.....
I think his sentence was clear…..since most of us realize that only one player can win the award at a time.

Fail on my part
Definitely didn’t even realize I wrote that.

Smith..
Mlive’s article on the 30th says Smith was at practice that day, but he was not in pads. Then today, obviously he wasn’t in pads either if the entire team wasn’t.
The fact that the team worked out RBs the other day tells me Smith will not be ready this Sunday, or that the staff doesn’t expect him to be anyhow..
I don’t see us having a successful run game with Morris and Brown (Cason?) but I hope I’m wrong.

They didn't sign any RBs, though
It was just one big tryout.

Misdirection
Trying out running backs earlier this week is just one more day the Bears cannot gameplan our run game conclusively.
Anything that happens before the Wednesday injury report is a potential mind game.

If you guys are right...
And the tryout was nothing but a “hoax”(not totally)to get the Bears thinking Smith won’t play Sunday, and Kevin does play, I can definitely see the Lions winning.

I think Brown and Morris can get the job done
even if Smith does not play…….

I don't think it was a hoax
I just think it was the Lions doing their homework in case of injury down the road.

I'm not saying it was a total hoax
But even one less day of preparation for the Bears or half a day, or even a little bit of confusion for the Bears is an edge, so why not do it.

Just doin homework
we no longer have the first spot on the waiver wire, so i think it’s good to plan ahead for injury. but c’mon Cason, this guy must have naked pics of marinelli and Schwartz’s wives.

Makes our chances of winning much higher.

Movies+Football
If you LOVE Football,+Comedy+Hot Cheerleaders, sprinkled with Madden and Hall of Fame Players as Head Coaches, you’ve GOT to see “The Replacements” (2000), if you haven’t already. The best football movie ever made, and North Dallas Forty came from my day. TBS is running it lateley, but worth the rent. Check it out!!!!

delmas!!!
i was really excited about this kid when we drafted him, and he’s living up to the hype!!! there’s no telling how good he’s going to be once he learns the system, and we can get consistent pressure on opposing qbs!!

Congrats to Delmas!!
I would have split my vote between Aaron Curry and Delmas – he’s playing monstrous football as well for Seattle.
I’m not sure how everyone else feels but I have confidence in Mo Morris if he has to carry the ball 10 – 15 times if Smith can’t go the full game. I really liked that pickup in the offseason.

I'm unsure about Morris
He did score that TD, but other than that was fairly average in the time he’s spent on the field this year. I’m hoping that if he does get 10+ carries that he finds some form. We’ll see,

Morris
Is a wrecking ball…..a one cut and go type of guy. He is not going to light the world on fire with his dazzling moves and his speed, but he will bang the ball up the middle and get his yards here and there if needed. Personally, I like him a lot more as a change of pace back on third down than as a starter. I think Aaron Brown could be the next Darren Sproles, given the chance. He is far more explosive than Morris, and I think his speed out of the backfield could help us a ton in the passing game if he were utilized correctly.
