Stafford gives Detroit the best chance to win

Killer delivers the honest truth on the Lion's QB situation...

That is the unmistakable conclusion you have to make after watching Daunte Culpepper's performance in Detroit's 28-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Culpepper, who started because Stafford has a minor knee injury, made a lot of good plays in the game, but he also made some ill-advised decisions.

Also adds on the possibility of Culpepper starting this week...

Culpepper has always been capable of making big plays, but it's his inability to avoid the poor decisions that have hurt him in recent years.

I like Culpepper, But I'm with Tom... He needs to step up and be the veteran he's supposed to be.

Flame away,

Killer

lost his mind in the middle of the write up. It went from how D.C. makes poor decisions to how Schwartz doesn’t tell the media anything.

I liked it

I wish he would have randomly bounced around to three or four more off-topic topics

I agree

When Stafford is able to play, he has to play. He is the future of the team and he has been consistently improving. I still say Daunte can (and will) get the job done, especially against teams that are not the defending Super Bowl champs, if needed. Killer has shown from the beginning of this year that he is extremely biased towards Stafford. His opinion does not hold much water with me. However, I agree that Stafford is our guy now and that he has to play when he is able.

I agree...

KDawg,

I think you and I have been on the same page regarding Stafford and Culpepper since the preseason (and maybe before, but I don’t remember your thoughts around draft time) up to and including arguing that Culpepper should play after the first few weeks (and the ensuing flame wars – ah the memories).

I have to say that Stafford is the future and is better than Culpepper. I won’t say that was the case for the first few weeks, but I have to admit that Stafford has improved at a pace I never expected any QB to do. He looked lost the first few weeks. He doesn’t anymore. The last thing he really needs to do is learn how to put air under the ball sometimes. So I will say here what I do not say often. I was wrong. All the way around. Stafford is going to be special. He needs to play. He needs to get back sooner rather than later.

Having said that, I think Culpepper did just fine, but CJ’s loss was apparent. We need CJ back soon or there’s gonna be more pain in the passing game.

I think a lot of people were

Me, for example, but I’m really quite happy with the decision now.

I was against drafting Stafford too

I was wrong too. Very happy now.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

I wasn't..... :o)

…and I’m STILL happy. Had to do it…….

I didn't want Stafford

now I can’t wait for him to get back out there! Good call on him, Drew, who do you have your eye on for the next draft?

ever since the MSU/Georgia bowl game....

He took it over in the second half. MSU had no chance once Stafford got rolling.

Yep

The previous year Matt Ryan beat us in a bowl game, and I was impressed enough that I knew he would be good. Stafford was just as good in last year’s bowl game, but I guess I was in denial about his abilities at the time…..was sulking.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

I don't know that i agree that Culpepper did just fine.

I really thought as an 11 year vet, he would have handled the blitz better and made better decisions than he did. Just my opinion. The sooner Staff gets back, the better.
I agree with killers thoughts on La Beau as well. He is a great DC.
