Can lightning strike twice?
As we all know the Lions go to their bitter rivals this week, the Chicago Bears. Do you think this Stafford led Lions team will be riding so high on confidence after snapping their 19 game losing streak last week that they might actually be able to pull of back to back victories since god knows when? Or will Cutler smash their dreams and do what is expected? I think it will be a close game either way.

I think we can win it
couple of reasons
1.) Bears secondary is old and not looking particularly sharp (not like 2006)
2.) Our run D the last 2 weeks is doing great, we out rushed both Minnesota and Washington
3.) Our Line is playing considerably better. The bears biggest weapon is ther Dline, but look how we did v.s williams wall and Allen (grant it there was a missed assignment that led to a sack)
4.) We are riding high with confidence…I think this is huge! Attitude is everything. Wasn’t in the movie “little giants” somebody said football is 60% mental and 40% physical. kinda cute movie, very good quote.
5.) Our coaches seem to be getting better. Each week they are doing a better job in game planning.
All in all I think we will continue to build on last weeks performance. I see more progression instead of regression.
Are the bears better than the skins? Without question. but We straight dominated them in the 1st half, grant final score doesnt indicate it but we killed em in every aspect. if it wasnt for prevent D in the final drive, whats his name, @ washington would not have had 340yrd passing.

you're with the terrorists!!"
I agree
The Bears secondary is filled with doormats and matadors this year, and their linebacking corp is severely banged up. The only starter that has even practiced this week at LB was Lance Briggs, and he was limited if I am not mistaken. We are currently ranked 16th in rushing defense, and I think that as much as the Bears have been struggling on the ground, our success against the run will continue. I also believe that our offensive line has been playing at an above average level with the new scheme and blocking techniques. There is no reason we can not keep that up against the Bears. I also agree that our coaches are doing a great job improving from week to week, and that should also continue through this week. Lastly, I agree the most with your comment about attitude and confidence. Are the Bears better than the Vikings? I seriously doubt it, and we also dominated them during the first half of that game. If we can continue to play relatively mistake free football this week, we will be in this game and stand a good chance at winning. I did not vote in the poll, because I did not like the pretenses behind either answer…..however, I think we can win this game.
The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.

Bears defense

The defense that you so eloquently put is currently ranked 9th overall, and 12th against the pass. Hardly “filled with doormats and matadors.” Furthermore, our LBs are just fine cause they were the deepest position on the team; Roach has completely outplayed Hillenmeyer in the middle, and Williams has talent to hold up at the SAM. Btw- Briggs is playing, and plans on dominating again this week.

You have your opinion and I have mine....lol
Seneca Wallace put up 261 yards passing against that great Chicago secondary. He completed 50% of his passes and had a passing TD…..yes he threw an INT too, but it WAS Seneca Wallace! If not for Devin Hester scoring late, the Bears would have lost to Seattle, without Hasselbeck! Roethlisberger completed 66% of his passes and threw for 221 yards and a TD, again with 1 pick. The Bear secondary has given up a great deal of 20+ yard passe, not to mention the 40 yarder to Julius Jones…..
All I am saying is that your defense is not as good as you Bear’s fans would like to think it is. Your linebackers are beat up, and your depth is not as good as you think it is. Your secondary is old, and beatable. Is the Chicago D rated so high because of their outstanding performances, or is it the lackluster performances of their opponents in addition to the poor defensive play across the league so far this season?
Well that's fine
but they’ve gone against two of the premier QBs in this league- Rodgers and BigBen while holding their own. JJ’s TD was a bit fluky, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt cause Peanut loves to go for the forced fumble. Besides that, they completely hampered Seattle’s passing offense.
Statistically speaking, you couldn’t be more wrong about the Bears defense. The numbers don’t lie. 2nd in sacks, 9th in rushing defense, 12th against the pass, etc.
Your secondary is old, and beatable.
Besides the Tillman (only 28), the secondary is extremely young. Afalava- rookie, Manning- 27, Bowman- 24. So it’s obvious you didn’t do your homework before uttering those words. Plus, besides the Jones’ TD, the secondary hasn’t been beaten deep since opening night. That I might add, was with Vasher and Payne playing.

vasher
as long as vasher doesn’t see the field then the chances of the bears winning the game go up dramatically.

My bad
You are right, I did not check into the age of the Bear’s secondary. I am not sure what I was thinking. The funny thing is, however, that Seneca Wallace was able to pass for 261 yards against the amazingly awesome Chicago secondary. Just think what it would have been like with Hasselbeck playing. I’m not saying that Stafford is the best QB ever, but our weapons are far superior to Seattle’s in my opinion. Good luck stopping CJ, and if you do you will not stop both Johnsons, Pettigrew, and Kevin Smith. It is also my opinion that Green Bay was flat in week 1. The Bears are overrated, and Cutler is not the answer as to why the Bears have gotten progressively worse since their Super Bowl run. I hope the Lions beat the ever living snot out of the Bears, then maybe all of Chicago will wake up, look at the Sandman, and say “What kind of dream was that?”
You gotta love divisional games don't you?
Makes the regular season so much more fun.

Bowman and Afalava
Bowman, a second year man, played in one game during his rookie season…..and by the sounds of it, he didn’t start every game so far this year (I assume Vasher played against Green Bay at least). Afalava, as you said, is a rookie. So much for great experience being an argument as to how these guys are not extremely beatable against our much larger and stronger receivers. There’s your doormats. Vasher IS a matador, and if you argue that you are nuts.
So, you have Tillman and Manning. If Manning is so good, why did he only start in one game last year? He played in 14, but only started in one. he had 31 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 INT (That compares with our very own Kalvin Pearson (we all know how awesome he is), except Pearson had more tackles and no INTs). Manning is pretty good…..on special teams. I will not argue that Tillman is not the best defensive back you have to offer….ranked 2nd on the Bears in solo tackles (79), tied for 2nd in INTs (3) and 6th in total tackles (91) in 2008. However, Chicago also had a great pass rush and all of it’s first team linebackers were healthy (which made it easier for your secondary to make the most of their opportunties, being the opportunists that they are). Without Urlacher (and his backup, who is doubtful), Tinoisamoa (doubtful), and with a banged up (and questionable) Lance Briggs, I have my doubts that you pass rush will be dominant, if even threatening, with the improved play of our offensive line. Your “depth” is even banged up! I’m not saying that we do not have our own injury issues, but I think it would be wise to curn your defensive expectations this week. You will have a 3rd team MLB, a 2nd team SLB, and I doubt Briggs will play every down.
The numbers do not lie…..but they also do not tell the whole story. Defense is a TEAM effort, and half of yours are beat down, broke, and abused.
Manning
Cause he played mostly as a nickel, which accounts for a good percentage of plays and a lot on STS.
So much for great experience being an argument as to how these guys are not extremely beatable against our much larger and stronger receivers.
Again, never said anything remotely close to this. Nor did I mention anything regarding matchups for the game. I’d pay close attention to the battles in the trenches, cause that’s where the game will be won or lost.
"Repetition is only good when you've been winning." - Valet
good luck finding anyone who says vasher
would help the bears in the least buddy. seahawks got over 300 yards of offense, taking 75 plays to do so. vasher would just give them an extra 50-70 yards by playing. if and/or when the bears get their act together on 3rd and long downs (something lions fans can expect to see stafford in a lot at this sunday), then the defense can finally start earning the ‘much-improved’ moniker that a lot of people are giving them this early in the season. also would be nice to get cutler out on the field more via more lions 3 and outs to keep whipping this offense into shape.
you can preach curb expectations all you want but chances are extremely likely your dream of seeing the lions beatdown the bears will only play out on your madden game. in either case hope there are no serious injuries to either club.

Just like I said.....
Your linebackers sucked and so did your secondary…..Special teams, turnovers, and field position won the game for the Bears. Our bad, of course. Loved that 54 yard bomb past El Matador on the opening play. Bowman trying to take on CJ one on one…..what a joke. You guys are lucky that we have a crap LT and you have a solid D-Line….plus you better thank your lucky stars that we have Kwan as a Special teams coordinator. You will not beat teams this year who have special teams that are superior to ours. Enjoy this win while you can.
lol
competititve first half. talent deficiencies across the lions roster showed in the 2nd half. hope stafford isn’t out for any length of time for the lions sake. culpepper is horrible now, just plain should not be on any roster.
your frustration level is very amusing, but it is quite alright. there are some quality players in detroit right now that will be real good in a couple of years.
if you bother to rewatch the drubbing of the lions again you will notice bears lb’s made a whole bunch of plays. secondary, not so much so. but hey, at least vasher didn’t see the field (i think) so there is that to be thankful for in bearfanland.

Never said
they were awesome, but you’re talking as if they’re the worse in the league. Maybe the Packers were flat had something to do with the Bears defense. Just like I would say the Bears offense was partly “off” cause the Packers new 3-4 alignment.
Just think what it would have been like with Hasselbeck playing.
Hass probably gets sacked at least two more times against the Bears defense last week; If you watched the game, Seneca did a great job avoiding a strong rush.
The Bears are overrated, and Cutler is not the answer as to why the Bears have gotten progressively worse since their Super Bowl run. I hope the Lions beat the ever living snot out of the Bears, then maybe all of Chicago will wake up, look at the Sandman, and say "What kind of dream was that?"
This means nothing to me; it also shows me you have nothing concrete to reply with. You’re basing this on 3 games? Really? Can you be any more subjective and short-sighted? Remind me…when was the last time the Lions won the division or made the playoffs?
"Repetition is only good when you've been winning." - Valet
I dont know
if I agree that the Bears are that much better than the Redskins. I would say they’re about equal to the Redskins. The Redskins have some talent.
in what, madden?
in real life, not so much. except for two current deficiencies (OL and safety) bears’ depth is as good as most in the league. LB’s 4 and 5 are playing just fine and you’ll learn their names very well this sunday.
if the bears don’t beat themselves by a huge letdown in pass defense this game should easily cover. the bears are known to play down to their opponent’s perceived level of ability so anything is possible. the lions look like they can be a dangerous team after a good stretch of games together.

We'll see what your 2nd string linebackers can do against Megatron and Co.....
I’m sure they did look pretty good in the preseason…..
I wouldn't worry
about our linebackers, you should probably concern yourself with our Dline and Stafford avoid sacks. Hard to complete passes when you’re on your back.

Wow, this all sounds like the stuff the Redskins fans said last week........
…….before we beat them.
They thought they were a good team. They ASSUMED we weren’t, simply because we went 0-16 last year. Times change, and the Redskins fans didn’t look deeper than anyone in the national media did. They took us for granted, overlooked us, and paid the price for their overconfidence.
Now earlier this week, a bears fan wrote in a post here that the Lions were playing a good team this week. My response was……“Guess what, so are you.” He ignored that response. Here we go again. Overlook the Lions at your own peril.
The Lions are a good team. Go Lions!
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
All I said was
don’t worry about the linebackers, worry about the D-Line. Looks like I was right. You guys played a great first half, had me worried for awhile. Stafford is going to be great for you guys and Calvin is a beast has been and will be for a long, long time.

You were absolutely right Ditkavsworld.....absoultely right
It was most certainly not your linebackers or secondary that we ever had to worry about…..and that was MY point. If our offensive line had played as well as they did against Minnesota and Washington, the Lions would have won the game.
Let me rephrase that....
It is a stretch to say we would have won if our O-Line had played better….but if they had played better and our special teams would have pulled their heads out of their asses, the Lions would have won. Average starting field position against the Lions was what won the game for Chicago. We may have even been able to overcome the turnovers if our offensive line was getting a push in the run game and our special teams weren’t allowing the Bear’s kick returners to get to midfield every single time we kicked the ball.
Yeah
giving your opponent a short filed everytime they get the ball is not going to increase your chances of winning. I think the game will be much closer in Detroit, I think we’ll still win but if I didn’t think that I wouldn’t be much of a Bears fan.
You can't believe everything you read on the internet, that's how World War One got started.
Average starting field position for the bears in the 2nd half was...
at the LIONS 43. That was the game.
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
What's his name @ Washington....the one with the shlippery balls?
Don’t know if we WILL beat Chicago Sunday, but we certainly CAN. The complete change in attitude, lifting the burden of defeatism off their shoulders, especially for some veterans like Backus and Raiola, can have a huge effect. This team might be not only better than the media thought they were, not only better than WE thought they were, but also maybe better than THEY THEMSELVES thought they were.
They are NOT who we thought they were!
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
GRLion speaks truth
We CAN beat them, however, I’m still of the opinion that we probably lose in a close one, maybe 24-17.

I understand your line of thinking
But every week I believe we can win. The ol’ “Any given Sunday” still applies.
If it was Madden, then I would say no. But since you have 53 men that have to go out and play, you never know who will give it their all. Or who will take the day off.
