sheep are not fans

sheep are sheep. Disagreeing with the current management/ownership does not mean you are not a fan.
The only thing that is pathetic is that you continue to believe in someone (Ford) who has NEVER delivered!

Are you f-ing kidding me?

No one has said that disagreeing with the management or the owner means you are not a fan. However, criticizing your team’s QB, who has played 4 games in his career, over every little thing and then not answering the simple question of whether or not you are a fan sure makes it seem like you are just a troll who has a vendetta against Stafford. You are one of the most ignorant posters I’ve ever seen on the Internet.

Okay, I'll bite (no pun intended)

I’m a lions fan and have been since ‘89. I still wear a Lions T-Shirt to class (yes, I’m still in school), I cried when Barry Sanders retired, I would vote Yes for Chris Speilman to the hall of fame and I do dream of that day when I get to watch the Lions win the Super Bowl and how incredible that will be. I was also a meated-head Tiger fan who started banging the drum that the Tigers where coming after the 2004 season. So, I admire the passion but I will say this, I do not hold it against anyone who has jumped off the bandwagon. I spent most of the summer debating the issue of quiting this team which is why I don’t post on here often (I admire the optimism and respect the people here enough not to pollute the site with my negative attitude). I still root for the Lions and am somewhat optimistic, but I am not ready to beat the drum yet. I still have very hard feelings about the way Mayhew and Lewand got their jobs. Ownership let one man drive this franchise into the ground and then 3 months after firing him they gave his job to 2 people who worked directly under him without interviewing anyone else. As a fan that hurt more than anything I have experienced as a Lions fan. If anyone wants to jump off until the Fords sell this team I have no problem with that. I killed people who waited until October 2006 to come back to the Tigers so I understand where you are coming from, I just wanted to throw it out there that if some one wants to jump off the bandwagon now I don’t blame them and I will welcome them back (so long as they don’t wait until Super Bowl Sunday to come back). Just one fans thoughts and I won’t take it personally if you guys want to flame away.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

I would like to say that

while my post was probably over long it was more of a call not to shun those who have drifted away from this franchise over the past decade when they eventually come back. I could write a book about my complaints with management which is why I avoid posting more on hear. Sean keeps this place focused on the positive and I admire him for that. I know if I frequently posted about my complaints people would rightly call me out for that. Don’t take it personally just realize that these people are aware of all the same things you see as problems but have created a community that tries to stay positive. Don’t take away from that and people will be respectful to you. Again, I could spend hours posting things about the negatives but it would be ignorant of me to think I am offering any new information to people just because they stay positive.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

by tigerfaninChicago on Oct 25, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I like you much better than rbanner

You’re absolutely correct. I myself try to keep a positive vibe to my posts, not because I’m always optimistic, but because I’d rather see the silver lining than wallow in the misery. I think the same can be said for a lot of people who regularly post here. Negativity has it’s place and I think that if someone wants to post something negative in nature, it needs to be done respectfully (no calling other fans gullible or sad for still being optimistic) and with research. If rbanner had done this, this whole event may have ended days ago.

he i just tring to get us to talk about something defrent then how dum rbanner is

Just Remember matt... what would Daunte do??

by det32 on Oct 25, 2009 1:49 AM EDT up reply actions

Purpose

1) Something to do

2) A way to get rbanner to answer the question he has been ducking (he is one of the two votes for bandwagon cur)

3) I do not believe that everyone here is a TRUE Lions fan…..and I think that bandwagon fans are Village People in disguise

4) I am trying to make the point that just because you come here and post does not mean you are a TRUE Lions fan, nor does it make you a TRUE fan because you have followed the team for 50 years

5) I am tired of seeing people, who claim to be TRUE Lions fans, coming to places where REAL and TRUE Lions fans gather to talk about their team, only to criticize and bash different players, coaches, and front office employees of the franchise, when it is blatantly obvious that they couldn’t play, coach, or manage their way out of a pop warner locker room

6) I am sick to death of hearing the same old shit year in and year out, every time the chips are down and we are not winning every football game. The constant drones of FIRE GM, FIRE COACH, OUR QB SUCKS are getting really old and are frankly senseless….We have a new GM, who has not had any significant time to prove himself, who has made a great deal of offseason, pre-season, and in season moves in an attempt to make the Lions a better team (and the TRUE Lions fans have seen and appreciated his efforts so far)…..We have a new head coach, who has also had no significant time to prove himself, who has proven to be a very smart coach, who has had great involvement with the community, who has proven that he thinks about the fans of the team, and who genuinely portrays the desire and ability to turn this team around (and the TRUE Lions fans love, respect, and have great optimism for him and for the team’s future under his direction)…..and we have a rookie QB, who ALSO has not had significant time to prove himself, who has come in to a pretty undesirable situation and done his best, who has continuously improved from game to game, who has shown strong poise and leadership qualities that are required of a man in his position, and who has shown that he is BETTER than Peyton Manning was, as a rookie, on a team with far less talent that Manning has surrounding him……Yet we STILL have people, who call themselves fans, coming here and bashing the owner of the team (who (it has been proven to me) does not have as much pull, sway, or involvement in the team’s operation as many would like to believe (even I used to think so), the front office members and their decisions, the coaching staff, and the players! WTF?? If you do not eat, sleep, breathe, live, and love Lions football, then what in the blue F are you doing here making my life miserable? Go somewhere else and spew your woe is me crap to someone who cares…..because I certainly do not. THE PAST IS THE PAST…..THIS IS THE PRESENT! WE LIVE IN THE HERE AND NOW, NOT IN THE THERE AND THEN.

7) Lastly, I do not like bandwagon fans. Fair weather fandom is cowardly. If you can not stand by this team through thick and thin, through humiliation and criticism, and through every trial and tribulation then you are not a TRUE fan, and you do not belong here. I will not welcome a person who abandoned MY TEAM when they needed their fans the most. I will not welcome a person who does not have the perseverance to weather the perfect storm and stand tall and proud in even the darkest of times. It is not fair to those of us who are TRUE fans. Us TRUE fans have been here all the way. We have taken the criticism and the humility, we have weathered the trials and tribulations, and we have stood tall and proud to be Lions fans through thick and thin. WE TRUE FANS are the ones who DESERVE to bask in the glory that will come when the Lions FINALLY return to greatness. WE TRUE FANS are the ones who DESERVE to celebrate and say that we always knew that OUR TEAM would win the big game some day, and that we were with them all the while. If you do not have the gumption to be THAT type of fan, and you leave this team just because you can’t handle the criticism, the humility, or the bad times…..then I have NO USE FOR YOU. My purpose here, is to let it be known…..I don’t give two shits who likes it and who doesn’t.

"I will not welcome a person who abandoned MY TEAM when they needed their fans the most."

If they are that damn fragile, get them tutus because they have no business in the NFL.
If you want another five+ decades of failure, continue to support the current regime. They love suckers!

by rbanner on Oct 25, 2009 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions

So let me see if my understanding of english is better than Sean.

You are saying we would be suckers to support the Lions due to the fact that you are sure there will be five+ decades of failure under the current regime. Does that sound about right? You are basically lobbying fans to turn their backs on a team they love to follow, win or lose.
Got news for you pal. It is our right to support, talk about, bitch about, joke about, or have any other type of discussion about the Lions on this great web site that Sean and Drew for that matter does a great job of running.
If you don’t like it, take your lobbying, mumbling, grumbling, whining, nit picking, I can do it better than anyone, Packer, Redskins, or whatever team you switch to self out of here. I am sure you will not turn any of these fans any time soon.

by Lead Hunter on Oct 25, 2009 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Not even remotely correct

Unless you think OMF has the lifespan of a biblical character.
Now we have a new candidate for that remedial English class.

by rbanner on Oct 28, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

WOW

I believe you could combine points 6 and 7 and create a solid defintion for the term “meathead.” Seriously, I don’t know if you’ve heard this story before but in 2006 the Detroit Tigers came out of nowhere (unless you were listening to me and then it wouldn’t have been too surprising) and made a run at the World Series. It was a great time for those of us who suffered through the Randy Smith era and still wonder to this day how much worse it could have been if Juan Gone had signed that 7 year 144 million dollar contract. So you know what I did when I noticed the bandwagon fans coming on board … I reached my hand out and helped them on. And you want to know why? Because it benefits my team to have every fan possible so that years like 2006 aren’t just flashes in the pan, but instead my team can continue to compete and maintain a high level of play from increased revenue. I don’t blame you for being sick of the negative attitudes but I’m not convinced blind faith is any better. We can all appreciate your passion and I will continue to refrain from posting negative comments about the Lions but I think you need to realize that you can be a true fan and have doubts about what is going on.

Having read rbanner's stuff

I would agree. There is a point where you can say “I think this is bad because …” and a point where it just sounds like your rooting for bad things to happen. We all get that there are problems but no one who calls themselves a Lions fan should be rooting for bad things to happen just so they can be right.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

by tigerfaninChicago on Oct 25, 2009 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions

To be fair

I just skimmed some of the posts rbanner created in the past week (too many replies to read each one) and I see why you are pissed. I think the point rbanner misses is that it’s okay to be a fan of a team and hope that the team gets it right (draft picks, etc) even if you believe they made the wrong decision. I feel like I can summarize like this, I probably agree with most of what rbanner is saying but I have never once felt a need to create a post about it because frankly I would rather be wrong. The unfortunate thing with posts like his is that he is making the assumption that nobody else has ever thought those same thoughts and that he is guiding light that will lead everyone to Zen. My hope for you KDawg is that you remember that when this thing does get turned around the franchise needs guys like that just as much as they need the hard-core fans if they want to maintain success … no matter how unfair it seems.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

by tigerfaninChicago on Oct 25, 2009 4:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I respectfully disagree

I was also there with the Tigers……through all of the bad years after 1984. Bandwagon fans are worthless. I have my opinion and you have yours.

by KDawg on Oct 25, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Also....

I am not too sure what you meant, but I hope you were not referring to me as a meathead……

by KDawg on Oct 25, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

BTW

I never said that you can’t be a TRUE fan and also be critical of your team and the decisions of the management. I said if you abandon the team and become a fan of another team, just because they are producing a winner, then as far as I am concerned you can stay there when THIS team becomes a winner. What good does constant bitching and moaning do for anyone here? NONE. That is all I am saying. If you want to whine and complain with every comment you make, I would appreciate it (as I am sure a lot of us would) if you would do it elsewhere. I myself have been critical of the management’s decisions……however I refuse to walk away from my team just because I think the owner is an idiot, the GM is an idiot, the coach is an idiot, or the players suck. Period. If you are still a fan of the Lions, after the failure they have experienced over the years, then that is what I constitute as a true fan. I definitely do not mean to preach “blind faith” here…..however I am saying if you are going to be consistently negative, at least back your claims with a solid argument, backed with CURRENT facts. In other words, put up or shut up.

by KDawg on Oct 25, 2009 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

and I think the problem with rbanner is that he comes across as if he is rooting for Stafford and the team to fail. I have my complaints but I don’t want this team to fail and I think if you find yourself rooting for them to fail you need to reconsider your fandom.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

by tigerfaninChicago on Oct 25, 2009 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, you're right.....rbanner is the anti-fan

He roots for the Lions to fail so he can continue to rip them and say he was right. Maybe he could use a new hobby……this one doesn’t seem to be impressing anyone.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Oct 26, 2009 1:58 AM EDT up reply actions

He Is

He is rooting for the team to fail. Because his point is that’s the only way the franchise will make drastic changes — if the fanbase leaves and the team fails season after season. I think rbanner is pissed because we keep following the team even though they’re going through a rough time. And if we continue to support the Lions, nothing will change.

Having said that, I think it’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.

Emerald theater is a great venue to see a concert. It was about 3 years ago so new material wasn’t played. If you closed your eyes and listened, it sounded just like Layne and a cd was being played over the PA. I think they played for almost 3 hrs. Outstanding show.

Geez, 3 hours is one long show

Do they have that much material? They’d pretty much have to do nearly every song.

They pretty much did!

45 min acoustic encore then a 4 song encore after that. They had to keep us waiting with the 5 minutes of cheering in between the encores of course. lol
