Week 9 Trivia (ANSWER)

Well it's been a long week thus far as the Lions lose another one.  For sure the recent loss at Seattle can be pinned on Staff's 5 interception game.  Staff's forgettable performance has invariably led to comparisons to Joey "Blue Skies" Harrington and his awful tenure as a Lions QB and subsequent draft bust status (however unwarranted the similarities may be they're their).  Nonetheless, this got me thinking back to the 2002 draft.  At the time many of the pundits were saying the Lions were better off picking this player instead of Harrington.  I was pulling for Millen to pick this player too (I was never a Harrington pick fan) but, alas, Millen took Blue Skies and the rest is horrific history.

ANSWER:  Quentin Jammer out of Texas.  There was much debate surrounding the Lions 3rd overall pick and it centered around Blue Skies and Jammer.  I was desperately pulling for Jammer but Millen took Blue Skies and essentially ruined the next 5 years of Lions football.

That was easy

Marty Morninghweg wanted this guy, but reportedly got overruled by Millen.
(not that I’m endorsing Morninghweg…….he was a decent OC with VERY poor leadership skills; waaaaay in over his head as a Head Coach)

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

+1

Right GRLion – I recall MM wanting him too – there was a TON of debate about whether or not Millen (puke) overruled him on the pick.

We had just spent a first-rounder on a tackle the year before (Backus), so I’m guessing it’s not one of the tackles. If I remember right (without looking) Freeney was selected lower than the top couple of picks, and we had the #3 overall, so I’m going to guess Jammer. could be wrong tho

meh, people have probably answered the poll before they read all the comments.

For anyone who thinks my post was a spoiler though, I was just kidding. Really. It could be any of those four. Now pick a different one.

This one was definitely easy for me......

I screamed at the TV and everyone at our draft party when we drafted Harrington over the guy who I wanted (the one that happens to be the answer to this trivia question). I called Joey Blue Skies out right there and then…..I said he would bust and that he was over hyped and over rated. The guy who we should have drafted is STILL a starter and is STILL very good at his job!

Same thing here KDawg

The person I was hoping we drafted has been a SOLID player in the NFL since 2002 and still rue the day we drafted Blue Skies. God I hate Millen for ruining this decade for us Lions fans!!
