Breaking News: Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson to Start for Lions

The legend of Matthew Stafford has just been taken to a whole new level.  Despite being listed as doubtful on the injury report, multiple outlets are reporting that Stafford will start for the Lions today against the Green Bay Packers.  All week there were absolutely zero signs that Stafford would even play, let alone start, so this is definitely something to be thankful for.  It's rare that a player who is listed as doubtful ever sees the field that week, but Stafford has apparently overcome his injury and will be the Lions' starter today.

Another thing to be thankful for is that Calvin Johnson will also apparently be in the starting lineup for the Lions, or at the very least he will play.  Calvin was questionable and had missed practice all week, so again, it's not like there were any encouraging signs that eventually led to this news.

To say I was shocked when I first heard that both Stafford and Calvin will play is an understatement.  I literally jumped out of my chair because I really wasn't all that pumped up for today's game.  Obviously any Thanksgiving game is great because of the tradition of it, but now it might actually be competitive, too.

don’t insult him by comparing him to that guy :)

That is a compliment.....like it or not

You may not like the teams he has played for, or the man himself, but the QB is one of the best that has ever played. I would LOVE if Matt Stafford turned out to be as good as Brett Favre. The fact that the kid is going to play shows that he has what it takes to be one of the great ones. I love it!

i just hope they're healthy enough to be themselves and can stay out there all game

the packers aren’t the browns… but then again, they aren’t the colts either. Go Lions!

Stafford is the man

I do believe they made the right decision in selecting Stafford #1. As much as I was against it leading up to the draft, I’m definitely firmly entrenched on the bandwagon now. This could be a good game. Green Bay’s defense is banged up and the Lions could put up some points. Detroit’s secondary will need to step up and they’ll need to put pressure on Rogers all game. Go Lions!!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!

O. M. F. G.

I was dreading the Stafford pick prior to the draft, but this is turning into one of those documentary caliber stories that in 5 years, will be NFL legend.

If we come out today and pull out this upset victory on Thanksgiving, when everyone was crying for the game to be taken away, when Stafford was doubtful at best, after the grit and heart he showed on sunday, this could be the moment that the Detroit Lions turn the corner.

I’m not saying I am getting my hopes up too much, but today could be a momentous day.

Awesome!

For both of them, it had increased my excitement for this game by ten-fold.
