How will DeVries be after his injury?

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Nov 29, 2009 5:20 AM EST up reply actions

Agreed

Wait and see is the best approach. We’ll know when we know. Don’t cut DeVries in February; bring him into camp in July and see.

Goodbye Mr. Anderson.......

Who’s that RB?

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Nov 28, 2009 5:28 AM EST reply actions

Good idea 76. Projecting all the offseason moves.

But what happened to Jeff Backus? Why do you think Baas, a Guard, can play LT? The 49ers gave up more sacks than Detroit last year and so far this year too. Mawae is 38 years old and will be 39 in January. There must be better options than him.

I don’t think you can count on getting Edwards and Jackson in FA. They may be franchised, or resigned, or go to a different team. Detroit has not showed a strong any interest in the elite FAs.
Not crazy about your draft after round one. Graham is good but I think we need bigger DEs [CJ Wilson, Jeffrey Fitzgerald (lots of issues with him), D. Morgan (will be gone early)] on the end. There are numerous safeties and corners I like much better than Cox in the third or fourth round [Arenas, Wilson, R. Jones, C. Jones, Ghee, Allen, Jackson] and there must be better O linemen than Calloway [Asamoah, Render, Johnson] or take a better tackle in round two.

I don’t like your final line up, even with the FAs.

The whole "trade sims" thing is dumb..

Depth is more important that almost anything in the NFL…we shouldn’t throw that away.

by CapitolLions on Nov 28, 2009 8:57 AM EST reply actions

sims was traded...but is also listed as a starting lb...????

i agree, we need depth, doesn’t hurt to have him & levy as proven this year

by londonlion on Nov 28, 2009 8:58 AM EST up reply actions

I just don't get the trade Sims fetish.

I have heard this numorous times. No he is not pro bowl but he plays well and gives 110%. We need to lose the trade Sims idea.

by Lead Hunter on Nov 28, 2009 5:56 PM EST up reply actions

+1. I think by next year he's a backup to Levy.

but if we can retain the starting LB corp. and have Sims as depth to spell either Levy or Peterson when they are gassed or injured would make this LB corp. one of the best. Those are the kind of backups we need. Proven young players who are good that we develop and are very familiar with our system. Not bring in different FA backups every season like a revolving door or trade good ones we have and replace them with garbage players. We need to think of backups as starters, as is painfully obvious this year with how bad we look with all the injuries.

Plus good solid backups will reduce the injury list because the coaching staff won’t be afraid to replace tired or dinged up players with the backups and have such a huge drop off in production like we do this year. being able to rest players and keep quality talent on the field is huge in competing for a whole season and being a successful team. And players we already have like Sims are ones we need to keep.

CB

Our cb’s are terrible. We must draft a corner in the first three rounds.

by lions09 on Nov 28, 2009 9:01 AM EST reply actions

depth

we cannot forget perhaps the second biggest reason why we are staring at a 2-8 team…yes talent deficiencies are number one…but injuries, the most players on ir for any team in the league. we need depth everywhere. we cannot go slicing & dicing…and think we can replace with rookies. we need fa signings of players without history of injuries. yes we need guys who can play, and want to play with a chip on their shoulder, but not with a history of injury. this year, we signed a lot of guys who can still play but most who have a history of injuries. we need capable talent for depth. trading sims and cutting guys like devries is not a good idea. plugging holes with rookies and giving them the longest season they will face begs for injuries. for rookies, their season is more like a one and a half year long schedule. you cannot put them in every play for a season and not be prepared for injury cause its bound to happen when they hit the rookie wall. we need another solid offseason that creates competition and brings in savvy veterans who can play their position, and young playmaking rookies that can make contributions immediately, not necessarily start, but make consistent contributions.

Ray Edwards will NEVER be released by minn just saying

by IAmGross on Nov 28, 2009 12:26 PM EST reply actions

Right.....

Edwards, Avant, McNeill…..I see none of those guys leaving their respective teams. I am skeptical that Marlin Jackson or Kevin Mawae will either. Also, I do not see the reason for the desire to have Big Lazy back in Detroit. Man, he looked awesome against Dominic Raiola and the maxi pads to his right and left. He has 32 tackles and only 1 sack all year this year….he is 30 years old and weighs 350 pounds (and I think that is a light estimate). He’s a big waste of space who is even bigger than Grady Jackson.

by KDawg on Nov 28, 2009 1:52 PM EST up reply actions

Not to mention........

Runs for the sidelines on third and short situations when his size would help, because he is tired. Big Lazy is being nice.

by Lead Hunter on Nov 28, 2009 5:59 PM EST up reply actions

McNeil is going nowhere..

He does not leave SD. Baas is a guard, that injured through next pre-season. So how does he replace Backus. And why would we trade two players for Rogers. Than use our 1st pick to draft the same position that Rogers play.

This mock leaves me scratching my head.

While I love the ideas, I do not see anything close to this happening.

That's what I thought too Kdawg

I’d have a better chance of hitting the mega millions then those off-season moves getting done.

Seems pretty unlikely

Where’s Avril? Most of the other issues have already been brought up.

by JCruize on Nov 29, 2009 6:21 PM EST up reply actions

Why?

If we get Shaun Rogeers it is a waste to draft Suh or McCoy. We CANNOT afford to have a decent LT we need Okung so Stafford dosen’t get hurt again.
