3.0v already???

I like the top half of the draft. I prefer LT, DT, CB, DE. in that order. Than after that just fill in the blanks. I would like to see a WR and a LB in the later rounds.

Your FA list was nice.

Good list of FA's....

Some that I was not aware of.

Lendell white… Darren Sproles…. YES PLEASE! That combo would be outstanding. I don’t see the Vikings letting Edwards go…. but that would be an expensive pickup.

Kampman is a definite possibility.

by CLF on Dec 1, 2009 8:04 AM EST reply actions

Sproles would be AWESOME!!

Sproles would INSTANTLY make our kick returning dangerous AND he is a super fast running back who gets it done both running and receiving. I highly doubt that the Chargers will be stupid enough to allow him to test the FA market though, especially after losing Turner to the Falcons. LT is on his last legs.

I would be much more comfortable getting Sproles to help Kevin Smith than any back in the draft.

by KDawg on Dec 1, 2009 3:26 PM EST up reply actions

Oh.....and Kampman would be great too

I’m not sold on LenDale White……but if we were able to get Sproles and White who would be the odd man out? Kevin Smith or Aaron Brown?

by KDawg on Dec 1, 2009 3:28 PM EST up reply actions

Tough call........one doesn't fit our current system and the other does the same thing as Sproles

Kevin Smith is a zone runner from the previous regime on a downhill power blocking team. The blueprint seems to call for a big power runner (like LenDale White) complemented by a superfast speed back (like Chris Brown, Aaron Brown, or Darren Sproles). I suspect we might keep KSmoothe for the length of his contract, then let him walk. With Aaron Brown showing promise and no real big power RB on the roster, I’d be shocked if we went after Sproles…..we got our speed back already. I’d consider it much more likely that we make an offer for LenDale White. The odd man out would likely be Maurice Morris, with LenDale White/Kevin Smith/Aaron Brown as our RB’s, and then phasing out Smith.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Dec 2, 2009 11:06 PM EST up reply actions

Chris Brown?

The singer? lol…..I think you meant Chris Johnson.

by KDawg on Dec 3, 2009 12:45 AM EST up reply actions

no?

he said “a superfast speed back”, I think he’s talkin about Chris Brown’s BitchSlap.

Yeah, that's it

WhereQuale? DownthereQuale

1736 yds last year. 301 yds this year vs. the EMU’s, but only 2 other (barely) 100-yd games. He’s not that big…..is he fast? We’ve already got Aaron Brown; we could use a big power back like LenDale White, not a 2nd Aaron Brown……we HAD Tristan Davis and cut him. Not even sure if HisQuale can produce vs. NFL talent.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

Scout Inc had him ranked 24th out of the top 24 running backs available for the upcoming draft.....

prior to the beginning of the college season. He had a spectacular year for Ball State last year, busting out with 1736 yards and 22 TDs…..but before that he never topped 447 yards rushing and 3 TDs (1 receiving of those 3). This year he is a Senior and he has about half of the yards he did as a Junior (871….301 of which came against ONE TEAM…..Eastern MI….lol) and only 5 TDs with one game remaining (vs Western Michigan). I think his big season was a fluke, and his size is a major deterrent for NFL teams. My opinion is he would be a kick returner at best in the NFL…..

by KDawg on Dec 1, 2009 6:15 PM EST up reply actions

Half the yards this year

compared to last? Why would you want this guy?

by rbanner on Dec 2, 2009 5:25 PM EST up reply actions

Like it

But Arthur Jones our of SU is not a second rounder. He had some injury problems this year so there’s little tape of him. His brother Chandler is a BEAST though – look out for him in the Big East next year.

I just don’t think Arthur Jones is a second rounder. 3 – 4 at best for him (that coming from a Syracuse guy)

KDawg

injuries have slowed him tremendously this year. I would have him as a second rounder in the beginning of the year but due to injury I think 3 – 4 round is a steal for him.

by NYCLionsfan on Dec 1, 2009 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

I do not disagree

I’m just pointing out that some stupid team might reach for him in the first round…..:o)

by KDawg on Dec 1, 2009 3:40 PM EST up reply actions

I like Vanden Bosch and Kearse

If Schwartz could pull both these guys in at a decent Veterans price it would be a steal. I also like Kampman but im not sure he wants to leave Green Bay (Weren’t him and Devries High School Teammates? if so that would be a nice reunion) also i agree trade Sims or make him a Safety or something and i think keep Levy and Dizon and Follett all on the bench (Still playing but continuing to learn) and try to sign Keith Bulluck for a nice price at 2 years (David Thorton is also a FA i believe) , I dont know if we can get these guys or not but maybe if they like what the Lions are doing and want to play under Schwartz again we might have a chance. If you can sign the two DEs or even one then i think we don’t even consider drafting a DE unless he falls right in our lap, and by doing this you can focus on DT (The Real line problem),CB,SS,LT,WR,RB

not a fan of bring in older players that the HC head once before

reminds me of Rod too much, I wouldn’t mind bring in Lendale though

by msivits on Dec 1, 2009 3:15 PM EST up reply actions

by the way i like C.J Spiller out of Clemson

if he falls to the 2nd round i say we take him and look to trade Smith

by JMW62689 on Dec 1, 2009 12:36 PM EST reply actions

Disagree

We need O and D linemen in the top 3 picks at the very least IMO. KSmith is not the problem, at least not a problem worth taking a 2nd rounder on.

The Vikings didn't plan on taking a RB....

But then AP was available….

Would you turn down AP for the #7 or 8 ranked DT/OL?

by CLF on Dec 1, 2009 3:15 PM EST up reply actions

CLF

That is totally different. CJ Spiller and AP are not even in the same time zone. And yes, if I could have drafted a DT or LT of AP’s caliber then yes, I would hope the Lions draft the lineman. Of course the trick is to project someone’s NFL talent without ever playing an NFL game – tough to do (ask Matt Millen – the ulitmate “draft talent” GM to ever bring a franchise to its knees"

by NYCLionsfan on Dec 1, 2009 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

I clearly see what CLF is saying.....

We can not afford to take the BPA based on positional need, IF the BPA is not a player that would fill a position of need. IE if Suh, Okung, and Berry are gone when we pick, we need to draft the BPA and not McCoy or a lesser LT or S just because we need to fill a hole. I agree too.

by KDawg on Dec 1, 2009 3:42 PM EST up reply actions

But there are some evaluations that have G. McCoy as a top five pick.

What other non-QB would you put in the top ten? I am having a hard time thinking of any besides the three you already named.

by NorthLeft12 on Dec 1, 2009 5:48 PM EST up reply actions

Top 10 (minus QBs)

In no particular order (and not necessarily in my opinion, but my opinion of the media’s opinions):
Ndamakong Suh – DT Nebraska
Russell Okung – OT Oklahoma State
Dez Bryant – WR Oklahoma State (if he declares)
Eric Berry – S Tennessee
Taylor Mays- S USC
Brandon Spikes – ILB Florida
Greg Hardy – DE Ole Miss
Carlos Dunlap – DE Florida (if he declares)
Brandon LaFell – WR LSU
Evan Royster – RB Penn State

Top 11-20 (obviously two of these guys would move into the top 10 if the 2 underclassmen in the top 10 do not declare, and etc for the underclassmen listed here) in no particular order (and not considering QBs OR TEs):
Arrelious Benn – WR Illinois (if he declares)
Jonathon Dwyer – RB Georgia Tech (if he declares)
Gerald McCoy – DT Oklahoma (if he declares)
Arthur Jones – DT Syracuse
CJ Spiller – RB Clemson
Rolando McClain – ILB Alabama (if he declares)
Trent Williams – OT Oklahoma
Jahvid Best – RB California (if he declares)
Sean Weatherspoon – LB Missouri
Terrence Cody – DT Alabama

Top 21-30 (not including QBs or TEs) in no particular order:
Cory Wootton – DE Northwestern
Patrick Robinson – CB Florida State
Brandon Graham – DE Michigan
Jermaine Cunningham – DE Florida
Marvin Austin – DT North Carolina (if he declares)
Sergio Kindle – OLB/DE Texas
Morgan Burnett – SS Georgia Tech (if he declares)
Jerry Hughes – DE/OLB TCU
Brian Bulaga – OT Iowa (if he declares)
Rennie Curran – OLB Georgia (if he declares)

KDawg

Arthur Jones is ranked higher than I would have thought. I don’t think he warrants this kind of attention…………shit I hope he gets drafted 1st round though (just not to Detroit). It will promote SU football.

by NYCLionsfan on Dec 1, 2009 8:59 PM EST up reply actions

Yes there are quite a lot of differing opinions.

I see Dunlap was just arrested for a DUI, not to mention the very mediocre season he has had.
Hardy is injured….again.
Spikes is an MLB and has some issues, besides the eye gouge.
And I am no fan of Mays, LaFell, or Royster.
I guy I am hearing more of is Derrick Morgan DE of Georgia Tech. Joe Haden CB of Florida and Bruce Campbell LT of Maryland and Earl Thomas S of Texas are also mentioned as top fifteen guys.

As you have observed KDawg, there are a shitload of Juniors who are being projected as coming out this year due to the possibility of a salary cap for rookies. Thanks for sharing your list. I am sure that the combines, interviews, and crystal balls that are used to evaluate these guys will change everything by next April.

by NorthLeft12 on Dec 1, 2009 10:37 PM EST up reply actions

I can't believe that Joe Haden wasn't on my list.....

That was a mistake…..he should be in the top 10 list and a guy there (like LaFell) should be bumped. I’m not necessarily a fan of all of these guys either….this list is just a compilation of what I am seeing out there.

I agree…..everything will change before the draft. But this gives us something to talk about at least.

by KDawg on Dec 2, 2009 12:36 AM EST up reply actions

nice

nice… can’t wait for the draft… WE NEED TALENT in the worst ways… fix the lines and we can blossom!

GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.
