Hats off to Cunningham's Defense

They kept and put the Lions in a position to win and most importantly, they're showing consistancy.(whever that is)

Who knew Cunnningham was a good enough cook to make chicken soup from chicken shit?  This Defense is exciting and fun to watch... plus they kept Seattle out of the endzone when the offense was having issues.

Great Job Defense!!!  Keep up the good work...

We will be much better when we add more talent to both sides of the ball. I do like the play of Hunter and Avril. Lets hope they continue to improve under the coaching of Gun.

Minus the offsides play!

You know the one…where Seattle was faking going for it on 4th and short, but the Lions just couldn’t contain themselves and eventually jumped offsides!

i was pissed at that call

the guard moved at least two seconds after the dline reset…should have been a false start

by londonlion on Nov 9, 2009 1:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

While I agree...

…that the call was blown. I was personally just as infuriated to watch Avril jump offsides in the first place. As soon as they lined up I was screaming at my TV it was a bluff. Then Hasselback runs up to the line with an acting job that would have fallend short of an Oscar bid and Avril jumps offsides. I’m sure it’s different when you’re in the trenches in hostile territory, but it looked so damn obvious on TV it was very frustrating to watch.

I think the biggest difference this year is the young talent.

Delmas, Levy, S. Lee Hill, and even the players who have been in the NFL for a couple of seasons are playing so much better than what we ever got out of our young players under Millen’s coaches. Delmas is just a ball hawking missile and I absolutely love watching him play. Levy is just as good as Sims is and it seems he gets better every game. Hill is starting to learn the position better and with the raw strength and talent he has is slowly working his way to our starting DT. I was just like a lot of you on draft day wondering who these guys were and why we were taking them when we needed other positions more but now seeing them on the field and seeing the way they play makes me excited to see what this defense will be with another year and another solid draft. I must say the people in charge actually know how to spot talent and we are seeing the benefit of that on the field as rookies.

by the way

I also really like the way Ko Simpson is playing right now too. That’s a move I wasn’t too sure of but I like what he brings and I like the way he’s playing right now.

We need to draft and bring in some more talented players and depth on the defense and by next year we won’t have to be so devastated by players going down like this year. That is one of the biggest concerns on defense this year is depth.

Hobbs needs to take a seat...

I watched him miss around 3 tackles.

Hobbs and James both were whiffing on tackles.....

And I thought James was a good tackler until yesterday…..

Dawg, I am surprised

neither you nor Sean mention how badly James was jobbed by the refs. One play, he gets flag for nothing more than sticking his arm in front of TJ.
Later, TJ throws him to the ground and there is no call?
I thought I was having a flashback to the Vikings game last year wehn the Lions got jobbed in that one!

Sorry

missed it.
I disagree with CLF, though. He was thrown to the ground. That’s holding where I come from.

It's not holding

If its not called….

…..where I come from.

by CLF on Nov 10, 2009 11:02 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Bottom line on penalties

The Lions will not get a favorable call just because of who they are, which is very unfortunite.

If you impede the forward progress of a receiver, beyond 5 yards from the line of scrimmage.....

And you are not making a play on the ball……it is pass interference. Textbook.

I am familiar with the rule.

I was speaking in general of any borderline call in a Lions game. They don’t get the benafit of the dought as say a playoff team would because they are the Lions. Just my opinion.

Sorry Lead Hunter.....

My reply was intended for rbanner……

No appoligy needed.

I Actually like reading what you and others post on rules. Although I was familiar with this one, and even after many years of following football, I don’t know it all. I appreciate and look forward to reading your comments and others in the future.
By the way, I have not seen TCLion on here in a while. Does he not like us any more. LOL

He is traveling.....

His job takes him from Northern Michigan (lower peninsula) to Pennsylvania. When he is not at home (in Northern lower Michigan) he has no internet access….I am his eyes and ears.

I am sure we will all see him here again….and he definitely likes POD…..:o)

Glad to hear he is well.

Look forward to his return to POD.

Agreed CLF

The D was put in horrible position during Quarters 2-3-4. Everyone on POD during the game yesterday must have posted 1000 times “OK Defense, one stop here and we’re still in the game” and they somehow managed to keep Seatlle to 25 points (minus the garbage TD at the end of the game) despite a QB throwing 5 int’s.

I thought the D did a great job yesterday. They’re much improved over last year’s squad for sure.

D has been pretty decent

They improved over the season. There is still a lot to improvement. But things could be much worse.

2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
