K.Smith Knee Injury

Smith had some things to say along with head coach Schwartz about K.Smiths knee injury. I really hope its something that won't take a whole year to heal. We all know how RB's with knee injury's end up, the kid could have just had his career end on a 48-3 loss. Read the full story here:

This is really sad

I hope it’s something minor, the last thing we want is to add Runninback to our long, long list of needs

Dear Lord

Please look over Kevin Smith, bless him and keep him safe through this difficult time. Please help him to heal quickly and come back whole. Amen.

I really hope that the injury was not career ending, but man did it look bad…..at first I though he had broken his ankle or lower leg, the way it twisted around. It really sucks that this happened, and I hope that the guys here who were calling for a new RB do not start in on that again for awhile.

I was going to ignore this but as one of those "guys" I guess I'll respond...

Kevin Smith’s injury highlighted the point that in todays NFL to have a successful running game you need at least two solid backs to share the load. If the Lions want to run the ball well they need to improve the O line and get some depth in their RBs. Aaron Brown is a third down, speed back, Felton [where is he anyways?] is a fullback in training, and Maurice Morris is a veteran back up/stop gap. We need a back who could step in full time for awhile to carry the load. Hopefully, someone who complements Kevin Smith. Say a guy who is a bit more powerful.
I for one was never looking for Kevin to be replaced as he is a well rounded NFL quality RB who seems to be improving still. Other teams [Carolina, Giants, Jets, Eagles, Cowboys, etc.] have more than one quality back and used high draft choices to get them even when they had a good back.

Those discussions were about the 2010 draft and who we could pick to help this team improve. I’m not sure if you are suggesting that we not speak about an RB for awhile out of some sort of respect for Kevin? The guy is injured not dead. Hopefully, he will make a full recovery and be able to contribute next year. If not, the Lions need to protect themselves and think about a back up plan for 2010.

And I agree...

Those that have been ‘poo pooing’ drafting a RB need to wake up. Look at the Ravens back field… 3 starting RBs. Pittsburgh 2, Dallas 3, TB 3, Indy 2, NO 2, ARI 2, Minn-2, NYG-2, SD-2 ….. Detroit….1

I agree........Thunder and lightning, RB by committee, depth.....we need it

A big back who can carry the load and wear down defenses would be a big help, and a great complement to Aaron Brown.

Get well soon, Kevin!

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

Good Post

I really agree with you here. I have been tough on Smith as well but this injury sucks bad. Smith was halfway through another good showing on his part. Lets hope he can have a nice recovery and bounce back for a contract year showing. Lets also hope Mayhew gets him some help in case the worst happens.

Not long ago, I would of disagreed

But now I see the advantages of a committee, if Aaron Brown cannot step up and be a solid speed back for us, then we may need to be on the look-out for another RB.

He's one of our only bright spots...

…let’s definitely hope that it’s nothing some offseason PT can’t handle. He seems optimistic about the future though.

Well if this injury makes him any slower

Then he might as well gain 150 lbs and move to lineman

Maybe Willie Parker from the Steeler's??

If they decide to go with Mendenhall I believe Parker will be a FA.
