Aurgh! The beast that wouldn't die!

Stay connected for news and updates

I'm actually home on a Monday night and I thought I'd watch the 49er's-Cards game as we face both these teams coming up.  I click on the TV and what do I see?!  The big, ugly, moronic face of 'he who shall not be named' spewing his incompetence for the world to see.  After the fiasco that has been the 2009 season in Detroit, a lot of the blame can be laid at the feet of this idiot, who ran the team into the ground the previous 8 years.  It made me stop and think (after I changed the channel) about the new regime in Detroit.

Although I'm disappointed that coach Schwartz wussed out about making personnel changes, I believe that he is the right guy to lead this team to some semblance of respectability.  It's a tough job and you can't expect it to happen in one, or even 2, seasons.  The 2009 Lions are basically an expansion team, just like the Buccaneers were in 1976.  Rebuilding always seems to be the buzz word of the day in Detroit but that is exactly what is happening.

Mayhew, Schwartz and Co. started off well with the '09 draft and a few pick-ups in free agency.  The problem this season is an almost complete lack of talent across the board.  Stafford, CJ, K-Smooth, Delmas, Pettigrew, Levy....can you name any more who actually look like the future in Detroit?  I can't, not really.  The schemes on both sides of the ball look good, the execution of those schemes does not.  Oh, there have been flashes of things to come but, for the most part, it's been dismal talent-wise.

Let's give this regime at least 3 years to prove they belong in the NFL and can turn this team around.  After the past decade, with the coaching carousel and the total incompetence in the front office, Jimmy and the guys seem like a breath of fresh air and could prove to be just what we needed in Detroit.  Have some faith.
