Any chance of moving up?

I want  Ndamukong Suh so bad. It is like it was last year when I wanted Stafford. If Suh came here I would either A)Find myself caught between two man crush or B)Find myself caught up in a hardcore man crush threesome....wait nevermind the last part.

Anyways, does anyone think their is anychance we move up to 1. If St. Louis has it and they want a QB and we pick 3 with Tampa in between us. Could we jump ahead of Tampa and St. Louis could take whatever QB they judge to be the best.

Possible Trade.

Det gives up 2010 1st Rounder, 2010 2nd Rounder, and maybe Ernie and another pick.

St. Louis gives up 2010 1st Rounder.

Is this to much to give up?

We need lots of bodies. We should be trading down, not up.

I feel ya...

…but I think Suh is a gamechanger. Like we could be 8-8 or 9-7 type gamechanger. Normally there aren’t big athletic guys with Jared Devries’ type motors.

by doctorjcmu on Dec 15, 2009 7:33 PM EST up reply actions

I know how people feel because I would love to see Suh in a Lions uniform......but....

I would seriously entertain offers for him if by some freaking miracle he fell to us. Even Reggie White needed a supporting cast before he was able to get into the Super Bowl. The Eagles never got that far in the playoffs with him. The Packers, with Favre, did.
Putting the onus on one player to rejuvenate our defence does not make sense to me. I think we are moving in the right direction and another draft like 2009 [five starters] and maybe we get a couple of useful FAs and we can get to mediocrity next year.
Then to possible playoff team in 2011, before Super Bowl contender in 2013.

Since when is Detroit...

Made out of money, can we even finance another first overall with this team based on what i have seen in terms of sales and attendance?

I Agree

We can’t have all are salary tied up in 2 back-to-back number one picks, even despite us heading into a uncapped year..

An idea

Our first round pick, 5th round pick and ernie sims for their 1st round pick and maybe their 3rd or 4th. We could draft Suh and still have our 2nd 3rd and 4th with also one of their picks. Is this is a good trade becuae I know we need players but this guy is too good to pass up. We also need to figure this out soon because tampa would be thinking the same thing. Is this is a good deal for the lions?

by David7 on Dec 15, 2009 11:08 PM EST reply actions

We cannot under any circumstance trade up

if that means giving up current or future draft picks. We have way too many roster spots to fill with young, future stars. One man, while spear-riffic, will not change this teams’ fortunes. It sucks because Suh would be great to have, but there are other great players to be drafted. The Lions mgmt just needs to draft solid like last year.

We all need to think long term, it’s gonna be at least 4 yrs before we smell the playoffs.

Just livin' the dream...

Let's hope Suh get's a DUI....

Just sayin, least consequential thing to his game that could lower his draft stock.

Great Idea....

Let’s pool our money and send him some hookers and some pot!

Or cheaper yet, just have him room with Carlos Dunlap at the Combine.

Normally I agree we should only trade down

But I think Suh is such a talent at a spot that we need help in so much that this is a once every decade kind of mix of need and availability. I would give up a 2nd for him. I would even package Sims (even though i love that guy and don’t understand why everyone is so down on him). I would even package Sims if we found out we were losing Peterson in the offseason (but not if we are also losing Foote).

by ATL Lion on Dec 16, 2009 10:44 AM EST reply actions

Why would we lose Peterson in the offseason?

He is signed through 2012.

What makes people think the Rams would want Ernie Sims?

They just got rid of an undersized Tampa-2 LB with a high motor who is arguably just as good if not better than Sims. Spagnuolo is into gigantic titans of men on his defense.

by Nate D. on Dec 16, 2009 1:17 PM EST reply actions

Please stop trying to trade Ernie...

He is our only legit depth at LB, and I would rather have him be average (which is way above many of the others on our roster) than to get a 3rd or 4th round project that may or may not pan out.

We can’t trade our top 10 starters, and no one wants anyone else on our roster. We just have to be patient, and build it out organically. With any luck, we will be able to build a roster of solid NFL starters over the next 2 drafts, and then go for depth in 2012 and beyond.

The only way I would trade him is if a Tampa 2 team had a LB starter that didn’t fit the tampa 2 system as well as Ernie would for them…

And actually, I would only trade Ernie Sims if we pulled a Roy Williams-esque trade off. Obviously Ernie wouldn’t garner quite as much, but if him and a pick managed to get us Ashiomunga or whatever sure.

Depth > random draft picks. CONSISTENCY AND CONTINUITY PEOPLE, say it with me!

by Nate D. on Dec 16, 2009 1:48 PM EST up reply actions

This is like the 500th time I have heard trade Sims.

I don’t get it. First, he would be great for depth, even if he is avg. Depth is something we can not afford to get rid of. Second, if he is so bad that you want to trade him, why would another team want him.
He has been injuried for most of the season. Give him some time with Schwartz to see if he can fit into the new system. I am with Foot and Nate, keep him for depth, if nothing else at this point. If he struggles next year, then ship him out.

Apparently we Lions fans are the only ones who know how bad he is!

To the rest of the world he is a top ten pick with great measureables. LOL

although i don't agree with trading sims

the only team that may look at trading down with sims in the mix is the bucs…he is supposedly out of the derrick brooks mold after all. now that would be a move…trade our 1st – 4 for their 1st – 1 (or two) cuz suh gets past the rams
