Move Kevin Smith to the slot?

Get out of here…and I thought we already decided as a group that all of the RB FA’s had the whole “Juice isnt worth the squeeze”….have you got any idea how much Sproles or White would cost a team? It will be too much…sproles will be more expensive because he is worth more…I doubt Washington will be allowed to walk by the Jets..even with T. Jones and S. Greene…if anyone, we should try and grab Danny Woodhead.

i like smith in slot b/c of his hands

Just Remember matt... what would Daunte do??

He does have good hands, but he is a good running back

you can’t waste a good starting NFL caliber running back by putting him as your slot WR.

I have to reply again..

I am very very very against not going into 2010 as K. Smith as our starting RB

yea dont get the move of K smith to the slot

I understand he has soft hands, but really, is that a good enough reason to move him to that spot?

I would agree with you if we had another solid back, but really neither morris, nor brown is a starting caliber back, and neither are any of the guys you mentioned in your FA list. they are either change of pace or goal line backs.

btw, i would like to see the lions bring in lendale…we need a power, goal line back

Maybe Dwyer from Ga. Tech

If he falls to the second. I understand we need help on the OLine and on Defense but having a guy that could carry the ball 25 times a game would be nice.

IDK, we need help everywhere which makes everything possible concerning the draft.

I am very worried about Kevin Smith's knee.....

It takes a very special breed of man to come back from that type of injury and be even close to the same guy he was before. For example, look at Kevin Jones…..he’s not the same. KiJana Carter never played again. The only guys I can even think of that came back and have looked decent after an injury of this significance is Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams. Plus we do not know the extent of damage in Smith’s knee. I think we will be forced to bring in some insurance at this point, as much as I like Kevin Smith and thought that he could be special with a good line.

Leon Washington would be a nice pick up, and maybe even Chet Taylor…..however we have to consider their relativity to age 30. LenDale White is 24, and he is a bruising back when he is on his game. As much as I was impressed with Aaron Brown, I am getting less and less impressed with him as time passes. Maybe we should look for a speed back in the draft and get White in FA. If Smith can come back strong, then at least we will be sure that we will be safe without him.

I forgot that Washington is injured....

So that just makes me think even more, that White is the best one mentioned

Now, you've just scared me...

Thanks KD!

I like the draft part Det32

Nothing but O-Line, DL, DE and CB/S. Thats all I want. No skill positions this year at all. I don’t like LenDale White but would love Sproles, Chester Taylor or Leon Washington (alhtough he will be coming off an injury). We will likely also be more active on the defensive side of the ball in FA if we don’t use literally 5 – 7 draft picks for defense

IDK

About drafting two guards but otherwise pretty good. I rather get Okung if Suh isnt there but that is just my opinion.

its gonna be an interesting debate

between whether McCoy or Cody is the next best DT in the draft. I haven’t watched McCoy enough, but from his size, and stats it seems to me that he is better fit as a 3-4 DE, and I think 3 or 4th pick is a bit of a reach. Other than that, I like the other picks (i see you went all big men or secondary, and i have a feeling we will see plenty of mocks that do that this year), although, I would think that we need to take a tackle early in the draft

Move Aaron Brown to the slot before moving Kevin Smith there. His hands are good and he has more speed.

by JazzyBBP on Dec 16, 2009 5:55 PM EST reply actions

this is true but i put his acl into aount..

it will be easyer to come back as a WR then a RB with that IMO

He's a RB

No offense, but this is an even dumber idea than trading Calvin. Aaron Brown is someone who could play slot receiver. Kevin Smith is a RB. How often do RBs get switched to slot because they suffer an injury?

I like the ideas behind the draft, and I am also suspect on K. Smith to the slot.

We should focus on the trenches as much as possible, and I would love if we added change-of-pace back. I like F.A. Leon Washington or Sproles (due to their big play ability).

Also, Reggie Bush is rumored to be cut at the end of the season – that’s a PR and RB, and a great receiver out of the backfield. Although, he is very fragile…

gonna have to pay shit load of cash

b/c he is still over-rated

agreed. But he is better than what we have now. I would consider it, but he will want $, and like I said, he is injury prone.

by lionsfan85 on Dec 16, 2009 11:10 PM EST up reply actions

Um, if we add a 2nd "change of pace" back........how exactly does it change the pace?

Send in the clones.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

Smith to the slot seems very silly

However, the rest of the mock seems pretty strong, although I would like a WR down the in the depth rounds.

Not a good idea IMO. KSmith would likely not like the move either.

I like a lot of your draft.

But if Iupati is not there in the second, I think the Lions go with whoever the best DE or CB/S. Like DEs Greg Romeus or Everson Griffen or CB/S like Reshad Jones or Chad Jones or Brandon Ghee or Kyle Wilson….depends who they like more. Jason Fox OT may get a long look if he can be converted to a Guard for awhile.
A Guard like Asamoah or Johnson should be available early in the third round. If not go with the best of CJ Wilson DE or Javier Arenas CB or Anthony Dixon RB or whoever else slips into the third who they have ranked as second or first round talent.
The fourth could be used for a Guard like Sergio Render or Ducasse or Mitch Petrus or a slot type WR. Could be smaller but needs good hands and shifty. Or the best CB who slips.
