nice job puting this up

Kyle Vanden Bosch- is most likley but i would tak all most any of them

by det32 on Dec 21, 2009 10:01 PM EST reply actions

Amen to that....

I too would like some moves in the free agent market… i think that schwartz might have persuasive football mind to get some FA to believe in his system and our beloved Detroit Lions

by Gyorick on Dec 21, 2009 10:39 PM EST up reply actions

that would be nice

he really is being misused in Green Bay huh… would look good in Honolulu Blue

by Gyorick on Dec 22, 2009 12:02 AM EST up reply actions

some intriguing possibilities

Some good players…..some long-term, some band-aids. This could help take pressure off our draft plan, sorta like how we got 2 LB’s as FA last year after only drafting 1.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Dec 22, 2009 12:08 AM EST reply actions

I agree sir

If we hit these guys up… it will shape what direction our draft will go obviously but it would be nice to make a decent splash in FA

by Gyorick on Dec 22, 2009 12:15 AM EST up reply actions

You think Kampman would join us?

I hear he doesn’t like the 3-4, and not a big fan of his DC. Maybe he’s like to help us stick it to the pack?

Just give me 25 guys on the last year of their contracts; I'll win a pennant every year....Sparky Anderson

U do that anyway though Nate

at least that’s what I’ve heard

And I should say......

We need to look at the best of the younger guys in this list. Good post Gyorick….this is something we need to consider.

I think that Ray Edwards, Kampman, Tapp, and Spears (because of his size, not because he has lit the world on fire) are the best of the FA DEs, and maybe even Bowen from Dallas too (again…..size). I think the relative age and ability of these guys make them excellent targets for us in FA, and landing at least one of them would make it much easier for us to focus elsewhere in the draft.

by KDawg on Dec 22, 2009 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

Signing Kampman would be huge!!!

He doesn’t get utilized correctly because they have him out in coverage where he would rather be hand down in the dirt, pinning his ears back and smashing the quarterback. Cause of the prior reason is exactly why he prolly doesnt enjoy his DC. However that is exactly what schwartz is looking for DE to get pressure on QB with speed and power but also skilled enough to keep his outside shoulder clear and never lose the edge funneling everything up the middle to our linebackers. I would like the looks of Kampman, Suh, Hill, Vanden Bosch. That would be night and day we could still have gradys big ace to not be an every down tackle and get a little more out of every D lineman we got because they wont be expected to play all game but to fill in when needed with 110% effort.

by Gyorick on Dec 22, 2009 1:30 AM EST reply actions

Last year, Jared Allen was a rich man's Kampman

I like both gyo and your thoughts on him. Gyo, How bout we keep Peterson and go Kampman, Suh, Hill, and Peterson?

Just give me 25 guys on the last year of their contracts; I'll win a pennant every year....Sparky Anderson

by footstock on Dec 22, 2009 2:20 AM EST up reply actions

Like it actually

Suh might get enough attention that it would let Peterson try to reign terror. That could work as well, I’m assuming your keeping Sims then so we would still be good there(if he would stop over pursuing) So my question is would you keep avril or try to shop him

by Gyorick on Dec 22, 2009 3:18 AM EST up reply actions

keep avril

with more talent on the line, i think he could be a force.

by Megatron on Dec 22, 2009 3:34 AM EST reply actions

Agree

But I think Hunter needs to go…

Just livin' the dream...

by Brefstink on Dec 22, 2009 1:25 PM EST up reply actions

My top 3 DE's

1.) Ray Edwards (just look what he did to us in 2 games)
2.) Ogunle (knows the Bears well and I think he’s pretty good)
3.) Aaron Kampman (still young and he’s already in the division)

I hope we don’t bring back James Hall. He had one mediocre year thanks to Shaun Rogers. Otherwise he’s not that good.

My favorites

I would like any one of these guys..

1. Darryl Tapp
2. Mark Anderson
3. Aaron Kampman
4 Vanden Bosch

I would really love to have Ray Edwards but there is now way the Queens let him go.

by Diplitomus on Dec 22, 2009 11:06 AM EST reply actions

+100

Those are my top guys, I would rank them as such however

1. Kampman
2. Anderson
3. Vanden Bosch
4. Tapp (GO VT)

by Nate D. on Dec 22, 2009 12:15 PM EST up reply actions

One guy Like that is not on the list...

Derrick Burgess NE. Just like Kampman. He is a DE playing LB in a 3-4 scheme.
You can throw Chike Okeafor, ARZ in that catagory as well. When both of them were in a 4-3 scheme. They put up double digit sacks.

if the shoe fits...get another one just like it - George Carlin

by JCruize on Dec 22, 2009 11:07 AM EST reply actions

Good call JCruize

I would like to have Chike Okeafor in honolulu blue and silver. That would be great!!

Uncapped 2010

Most of these guys are RFA’s now due to the 2010 CBA running out. Players with less than 6 years are all RFA’s, most sites are using the old rules. Plus teams can franchise up to 3 players next year too. Most of these players will be unavailable.

by Russ Aronson on Dec 22, 2009 2:06 PM EST reply actions

Good info Russ

Is that true about the franchise tag?? I haven’t heard that. I would think the players union would never have allowed that but with the nuances of the new CBA it might have made it necessary.

by NYCLionsfan on Dec 22, 2009 2:16 PM EST up reply actions

Just because you can

Don’t mean you will. In the economic situation we’re in currently, there are far more teams that are going to be willing to let players go rather than franchise them. Franchise tag = average of the top 5 paid players at the position. If you think for a second while ticket sales and merchandising is down and with no revenue sharing that teams are going to shell out that kind of money for one let alone two or three players, you’re nuts.

To the contrary, I think that there are going to be alot more high end players out on their asses this year. Sadly, however, that means nothing for us because Ford isn’t going to put any money into this team whatsoever.

by Nate D. on Dec 22, 2009 3:10 PM EST up reply actions

Hmmmmmmmm

you make excellent points Nate. I would like to see the higher end players making less anyway………..this may be a good situation in Motown if that’s the case.

Technically

I was wrong they get an extra transition tag. So a team can franchise and transition a player or transition 2 players. Not three though, I was wrong there.

Nice post Gyorick

Very useful. My choices would be Edwards, Kampman, Vanden Bosch & Ogunleye. It would be a pretty big move on Schwartz and Mayhew’s part to bring one of those guys over here. Personally, I’m hoping for it.
