Detroit Lions' 2010 Opponents
Via John Niyo, the Lions' opponents in 2010 are now set. The actual schedule won't be out until April, but below is a list of Detroit's opponents next season.
Home:
Chicago Bears
Green Bay Packers
Minnesota Vikings
Philadelphia Eagles
Washington Redskins
New England Patriots
New York Jets
St. Louis Rams
Away:
Chicago Bears
Green Bay Packers
Minnesota Vikings
Dallas Cowboys
New York Giants
Buffalo Bills
Miami Dolphins
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Overall that looks like a pretty tough schedule, but the one good thing is that outside of the Rams and Redskins, there are quite a few good teams coming to Ford Field. Hopefully that (and hopefully an improved Lions team) means fewer blackouts next season.
Out of all the games on the schedule, the one I'm looking forward to most is the one with the Jets because it will be the first meeting between Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez. This is a complete guess, but I'd pencil that game in for Thanksgiving. Next year the Lions will play either the Jets or Patriots on Thanksgiving since it will be on CBS and require an AFC opponent, and I think the more intriguing matchup is with the Jets. We all saw what happened the last time the Lions and Patriots played on Thanksgiving, and although they are definitely a big draw, my guess is the New York market and the storyline of Stafford and Sanchez will be why the Jets and Lions play each other on Thanksgiving.

That's a good winnable schedule for the Lions
With a solid draft and some defense & healthy players, Lions could have a respectable season. The winnable games could be both against CHI, @TB, @MIA, @BUF, NYJ, STL, WAS. That’s 8 winnable games there.
PIZZA?!?
The Bucs almost won @MIA this year
So it is possible, depends on the off-season.

Henne isn't that good yet
So as long as our run defense is solid, we should have a good chance vs MIA.
They don't have a big play WR
which is a huge flaw to their team. That’s why the Colts were able to win with <15mins of time.

Yeah, but Miami still had over 3+ minutes to drive 80yd
They got 50(to around the Colts 35)

I don't know
It seems like we say the same thing before every season. I think I’ll believe it when I see it.

Tough schedule
I honestly see five winnable games in that schedule (CHI, @ CHI, WAS, @TAM, STL) with this year’s team. If the team is vastly improved I can see a ceiling of 10 wins (five above + NYJ, @BUF, @MIA, @DAL, @NYG, GB).
On an completely unrelated note, its GOOD to be back in the great state of Michigan, even if it is only for a couple of weeks
The beginning of the end of the misery
Thanksgiving
The Jets are definite possibility because of the big name sophomore QB matchup, but I’m still leaning towards it being the Pats due to them being a national coverage team constantly.
Come on guys get serious
3 wins at most. I’m going to think realistically and not optimistically.
way to early
after the draft and the free agents picked.. i can predict the w’s but 5 could be reasonable
GO LIONS in 2010! the transformation starts now.. they have much to do.
Looks fairly tough to me
Hopefully our team improves in the offseason so that the tougher games don’t look so. Rams and Bucs appear to be the most winnable but you coulda said that this year too.

Luckily a couple of those games are against teams that are in a bit of disarray
Chicago traded all of the big picks and Washington is a big mess and Buffalo has no QB.

Ugh. Tough schedule
We could win these games:
Home – Chicago, Jets, Rams, ’Skins
Away – Bills, Bucs
I’m betting 6-10 next year. Not great, but in line with our rebuilding…
2011 we go 9-7 and steal a wildcard!
Ahhh I love the future…
Just livin' the dream...
2010 Possibilities
Next season, the lions will have a tougher road to hoe. As a result I believe they have chance of winning at best 5 games beating Green Bay once (here), Buffalo, Washington, Tampa Bay, and Dallas who needs a quarterback.
The lions need to coalesce behind Stafford and Stanton and use their draft choices to get major help on the offense and defense with particular attention being paid to the defense.
I am projecting that their record will at best be 5-11 1 and at worst 3-13. Either of which be an improvement over this year.
The highway dept hates it when you hoe their roads
(cringing at the thought of a CLF pic)
6-10 could be possible. I see 7 winnable games (2 x CHI, NYJ, STL, WAS, @BUF, @TB). We can possibly win 6 of those 7. But yeah, it’s early…..an entire draft and offseason away.
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
Good call on the Turkey Day...
match-up Sean. Stafford vs. Sanchez should be a great draw for the Lions. Can’t wait to see Jets fans realize how much difference there is between the two and how much better Stafford is compared to Sanchez. Of course, if we can’t upgrade our defense, Sanchez will have a rating over 100.0…. per the usual Lion’s opponents.
did we get screwed?
The way I understand the schedule process is:
2 games against your division opponents – 6 games
4 games against a rotating NFC division: 4 games
4 games against a rotating AFC division: 4 games
1 game against a comparable NFC team not already scheduled: 1 game
1 game against a comparable AFC team not already scheduled: 1 game
total: 6 + 4 + 4 + 1 + 1 = 16 games
This year we’re matched up the AFC South and the NFC West.
We seem to be paired up with the AFC East and the NFC East next year. We’re we just paired up with the AFC East a couple of years ago? We’re supposed to rotate, I would assume evenly, through all divisions. I remember that we played the Patriots and the Cardinals after their Super Bowl appearance. Wasn’t that just a couple of years ago? When did we play the AFC West? We haven’t played San Diego in ages.
I smell a rat. It looks like someone wants to keep the Lions down through an onerous schedule.
Anyone know the schedule rotation? Anyone else watching it? I might just be confused here.
it was 2006
I checked. I’m thinking of 2006. That was four years ago, counting from the 2010 schedule, that we had both Super Bowl teams on our schedule. So that’s an even rotation.
Never mind
