Visiting fan from Chicago
I'm gonna be going to the game with a group of fans from Chicago. None of us have been to Detroit before and we were looking for ideas on things to do in the city before and after the game. We got a room downtown and we plan on going to Detroit Beer Co. at some point. Beyond that we really don't have anything figured out. Any suggestions you could offer up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and good luck next week.

thanks for askin
i dont have a clue im from ill, wis state line by lake geneva and work in chicago for local 17 insulators. its cool that you ask lions fans and arent rude like the rest of the people i work with in chicago. theres cool people on this site that will help you out for sure. and as far as the bears go, they need to fire jerry angelo, move lovie to def coordinator and hire a top tier coach\gm. have fun at the game, good luck to you too.
The Detroit Fan base is...
quite respectfull…. more so than Packer or Viking fans. You shouldn’t have any issues wearing your gear around town before and after the game.
Greek town is good for lunch or dinner.
There’s bars galore.
Have fun… I only get to Chicago once a year… and that’s for the Chicago to Mac Sailboat race. I would like to get to soldier field one of these days.
You guys taking the train?
we're driving.
if we could have gotten every thing together sooner that would have been a good idea, I just checked though and it was gonna be 140 bucks round trip. that’s a bit steep for me.
soldier field may look bad from the outside but it’s good once you are in the place. not really any bad seats and you are much closer to the field than you were pre-renovation.
I’ll have to check out greek-town
It’s a shame the pistons and the red wings are out of town. It would have been fun to get to go to multiple games this weekend.

Skip HockeyTown Cafe'
Over-priced, crappy service, blah food. Def hit Greektown for some grub. Beers at Ford Field are $7.50, better bring some cash or get your buzz-on before the game if the Bears drive you to drinking like the Lions do to us. Finish the night at the Penthouse Club. ;)
i thought about that, but I can't imagine the secondary market is gonna be hopping for this one.
I’ll grab a bite somewhere between point A and point B.
we actually have seats in the “ROAR ZONE” I would have been ok going a little better than that but some of the guys are just out of school or in between jobs so it was hard to justify the trip at all. Getting good seats was not going to happen.

thanks
we’ll look into that. I’m looking forward to wandering around the stadium before the game. The only two place I’ve seen NFL games have been Lambeau Field and Soldier Field, so the idea of an NFL game in a dome is a new concept to me and Ford Field looks cool. I’ll try to encourage my group to move around a bit as the game goes on.

they do definitley cause me to drink more
but since most of the guys from our group have to work the next day we probably will be doing most of our wandering around and drinking on Saturday. I get the feeling that Hockeytown is probably similar to the Cubby Bear or Murphy’s in Wrigleyville in that it’s one of the places that people go because it’s the thing to do, but it’s not really all that great.

Best In Michigan?
How many cities in Michigan have you had pizza…..ive had pizza in cities from Flat rock to grand rapids to traverse city to marquette…..If what your saying is true I will have to check this place out.

I have had pizza all over Michigan, including the U.P.
I can honestly say, its the best I have ever had. But everyone has their own taste. Guarentee you won’t leave hungry.
Wait a minute...
That’s now how you say “Luigi’s Restaurant” in Flint!

Luigis is good also,
but I would still favor Pizzapopalis. Also, if you are a chicken wing fan, thre is a place about 4 or 5 blocks south of Ford Field called Sweetwater Tavern. Its right on the corner. They have the best wings in a special recipe sauce, and the fish and chips are great as well. Have been here several times and never been unhappy.
Stay away from Greek town after night!!
That would be my advice!! LOL. Good win BTW last night. I hate the Vikings more than the Bears so I was rooting for them. Plus the Vike’s don’t have homefield throughout the playoffs now!!! PSYCHED!!!!
PS – we’re gonna win this week (sorry)

I'm a rarity amongst Bears fans in that I hate the Vikings more than I hate the Packers.
I want to beat the Packers but I have a certain level of respect for them. I just flat out hate the Vikings. They have had a number of guys over the years that I just hated. Cris Carter, Randy Moss, Dwayne Rudd, John Randle, Chris Hovan, Jared Allen…. the list goes on and on.
as for the game next week….I’m pretty numb to it all at this point. While there is potential, my Bears just aren’t a good team right now. While I think they are capable of getting a win, I certainly don’t think it’s gimme. Quite frankly, with how bad our secondary has been at times this year I’m glad we don’t have to Matt Stafford. I think he’ll be good for you guys for a long time.
btw: There was talk with my group of going to one of the casinos saturday night. Good idea, bad idea? I had this idea that the area of Detroit around the stadiums, (roughly bound by 75, 375, and 10) We got rooms at the Holiday Inn Express on Washington Blvd and Michigan Ave. The idea was to walk to and from the game and walk to the Detroit Beer Company and possibly one of the casinos. Is that not a good idea?
---AC 00 00 00 - Believe
I stayed at the same hotel when I go to games
It’s not a bad walk at all. Greek Town is about the same distance walk but in the opposite direction. That’s where the casino’s are. The area is a little to medium shady (beggars, prostitutes, etc.) but overall it’s not dangerous IMO. If you’re with friends you can get your drink on and have some fun in the casino’s but I am far from an expert.
PS – I too am numb to the outcome. Of course if St. Louis somehow wins I will still want the Lions to win but in all likelihood, given our QB play of late we realistically don’t stand a chance. I’ll watch though with the rest of the guys here and hope for the best.

its rough to get in especially on a game day but as a chi fan you may appreciate chelis chilli right by the stadium owned buy chris chelios its a great place but be prepared to wait in line but I can tell you this detroit fans are quite respectful compared to most we are far from jets fans or packers fans and the exact opposite of oakland fans wear your colors with pride be respectful you’ll be fine I am a lions fan but I consider the bears one of may more liked teams thats why I am going sunday as well..Have fun ford field is a nice place
Chris Chelios
I actually saw him in the bleachers at Wrigley a few years ago. I didn’t work up the nerves to talk to him, but he seemed to like he was having a good time. I’m actually gonna see him play hockey tonight (He’s with the Chicago Wolves now). It should be a good time. I’ll have to check that place out either on game day or Saturday.

Glad you had a nice time...
Most of the opposing teams visitors really enjoy watching their team play in our building.
Hopefully, the next time you come back, you won’t enjoy it quite as much! lol.
