Should LenDale White be a FA RB we should go after?

Hell no to Julious Jones.. but LenDale White?... What do you think of him paired with Smith?  Or should we go with the draft?  Smith can catch the ball and run where as White could run down the middle?  Reggie Bush sounds like a no also?

Obviously we need to work on the line!.... Is it because of the offensive line needing to be better where we can stay with what we have?  What are your thoughts?

White is 24 years old so he has potential?  For you more knowledgeable Lions fan please help me out but  clearly the Line needs to be addressed!!!!!

Only if he goes back on the tequila diet and bulks up again

Lol I’m really not sure what to think about LenDale.

100% agree

He’s a great talent but seems to waste a lot of it on silliness. We know from last year that he is capable of running for many TDs in the red zone, and can pick up 3rd down conversions. We could use him if he was wanting to be effective, but I feel losing is not a good formula for him and we may have another year or two of that in front of us at least.

Yes!

No to Reggie Bush. If LaGarrett Blount drops in the draft, get him too.

by JazzyBBP on Dec 4, 2009 1:02 PM EST reply actions

No....

…..Blount is not the type of player we want. I do not want to pick up some diva that is going to take away from the team chemistry that seems to be slowly building in the Lions’ locker room.

I don't know Twon

He may have learned his lessen in Oregon. I still want to use all 7 draft picks for OL, DL, DE and CB but I think Blount could be a steal for a team needing a RB in the later rounds.

Yes on White, yes on Blount. Both could be bargains.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Dec 5, 2009 10:49 AM EST up reply actions

I think a lot of teams will be high on Blount...

I will be very suprised if he makes it out of the 2nd round and there is no way we can take him before that!

http://cmufootball.blogspot.com/

by CapitolLions on Dec 5, 2009 9:01 AM EST up reply actions

yes they are

He was slated to be a late 1 early 2 before his “incident”. He stuck it out with the team all season and then got enough playing time in that last game to show he didn’t get fat and lazy while he rode pine.

So you got this guy with the skill set to be a high pick, who has made a mistake and did what he could to make up for it by being a team player, and most importantly hasn’t taken the punishment of being a #1 RB all season.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he still went late 1 early 2. I think his negatives are completely offset by the lack of miles on his body.

by ATL Lion on Dec 5, 2009 10:07 AM EST up reply actions

Not sold on Blount

On paper he looks good with his size and speed, but after watching him the other night he seems to run too vertical for the pros. He has the size of Eric Dickerson, but his running style will probably pose a problem running between the tackles.

by footstock on Dec 7, 2009 3:55 AM EST up reply actions

Funny, that's what they said about Adrian Peterson

IMO, Blount’s at least worth a look.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Dec 7, 2009 6:55 AM EST up reply actions

Peterson looked like a man playing with boys at OU

I can’t say the same for Blount. The only concern I recall about AP was whether he would stay healthy. He had a season ending injury each of his last two years there.

Believe me, I am often wrong and I hope I am with Blount. I would have punched the guy too…the way he was mocking him in his face after a loss. He seems like a good guy, and I hope he makes it big in the National Football League.

Just give me 25 guys on the last year of their contracts; I'll win a pennant every year....Sparky Anderson

by footstock on Dec 9, 2009 3:29 PM EST up reply actions

He may be a guy that slips to the point that he turns out as a steal.....

And if that is the case, I would be happy if the Lions picked him up as a darkhorse pick later in the draft.

by KDawg on Dec 9, 2009 9:50 PM EST up reply actions

I still think we need a big back to wear defenses down in the 4th quarter when we have the lead........

……….and Maurice Morris is not that guy.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Dec 13, 2009 4:30 AM EST up reply actions

Schwartz said he wants the Lions to get bigger and stronger.......

………and yet when we all consider draft picks, it always seems like I hear……..

but not a bigger power HB to replace Maurice Morris
but not a bigger DT
but not a bigger G
but not a bigger LT
but not a bigger C
but not a bigger WR2

But the whole is the sum of the parts. Schwartz wants the team to get bigger and stronger, so like it or not, the Lions WILL get bigger and stronger at some of these positions. Schwartz wants the team to get bigger and stronger, especially in the OL and defensive front 7. It’s going to happen. You don’t get bigger and stronger by getting smaller and weaker, or by staying the same.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Dec 13, 2009 4:43 AM EST up reply actions

Don’t we all want a team that’ll punch another team in the mouth? Blount definitely ain’t afraid to do that! lol

by JazzyBBP on Dec 4, 2009 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

LOL

Just when Delmas runs off the field and the other team thinks they’ve got it easy, here comes Blount to bust their chops.

Due to the uncapped year players with less that 6 years tenure are RFA’s. Lendale has 4 years he will be restricted this year.

Improve both lines PLEASE!!!

KSmith and Maurice Morris are not this team’s problems!! They’re adequate for now. Fix the lines first and then maybe we won’t have a RB problem.

I see KSmith JUST missing long runs about 3 times per game. Maybe a better O Line gives him a little more room or one more block to spring some of these big gains.

Fix the o-line first, then judge if K.Smith is the guy or not. It would be tough for any running back to run behind the Lions o-line.

by Lead Hunter on Dec 4, 2009 4:43 PM EST up reply actions

Of course.....

I agree here. However, I also think LenDale White would be a major upgrade over Mo Morris…..and if we could get him for the right price, I’d be happy to have him.

I just think the money should be spent on the line first.

If we could get him for a great price, fabulous. But if we can get help for the o-line in FA, I would rather see that than pick up White.

did cross my mind…. The Steelers may drop him next year.. he’s a good back.. it wll be interesting to see what haps w/ him

by DINORDO on Dec 6, 2009 7:02 AM EST up reply actions

So we cut Aaron Brown?

It doesn’t make sense to have 2 speed backs. One would never play. I’d rather stick with the younger, healthier one.

Keep Aaron Brown!

smith

I don’t think he is totally healthy right now. It doesn’t help that he sees two defenders when gets the ball.

by lions09 on Dec 5, 2009 8:26 AM EST reply actions

You all know where I stand

I’m the head cheerleader for the LenDale White/LeGarrette Blount Fan club. If their heads are on straight, they can fill a needed role here for a power HB. Maurice Morris is not good enough. We need to set the bar higher. And if a coach who punches assistants (Tom Cable) and a player who shoots people (Ray Lewis) still have jobs, we can at least talk to White and Blount. Sometimes a player makes a mistake and gets a bad rep. Kids are immature hotheads sometimes; it happens. They look like upgrades to me, and they can be had cheap. We can’t get everybody in the 1st Round, so we need to find bargains too in the late rounds and FA. We can get OL AND a power RB, too. There’s no law that says we can’t have both.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Dec 5, 2009 11:03 AM EST reply actions

i like it

lendale can be a solid back to go along with smith..we need a guy for 3rd and 1 that can runup the middle

A BIGGGGGGGGGGG YES to LENDALE WHITE or ANY Power Back

Lendale is a solid talent who gives us a legitimate redzone threat. Like any other USC player, he has maturity issues which can addressed with Good Coaching. Though I feel rebuilding the offensive line is number one priority, any opportunity to pick up a powerback would be a great addition to the team.

Would we have to assume part of his enormous salary/signing bonus?

T.J. Duckett. His price was too high in FA. That’s why we let him walk over the winter. He wasn’t a bargain.

Not a fan of Lendale

I know he’s Chauncey’s cousin, but they call him fat boy for a reason. And the reason he stopped his tequila diet? Because of a contract year, not because he wanted a super bowl. What happens when he gets the money? Goes back to the tequila, plus some? Then we signed a unmotivated fat back. Remember, he was on the bust path until he had his break out year with Chris Johnson. You dont draft a RB in the first round if you have your man in your backfield already. If he wasnt doing the deed in Tennessee, Chris Johnson wouldnt have ever been drafted.

BUT, if Schwartz signs him he would obviously know his character better than I. And I trust his choice.

Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain. Lily Tomlin

by Leapin Lion on Dec 6, 2009 9:15 AM EST reply actions

RB by committee is the thing these days

Pittsburgh had Willie Parker, but drafted Mendenhall in the 1st Round. If, however, Parker is no longer their man, then Parker probably shouldn’t be our man either. More likely, it’s just this………RB by committee is the current trend, and teams are willing to draft 1st-rounders for that, regardless of who their other back is.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

by GRLion on Dec 6, 2009 10:57 AM EST reply actions

Maybe

Schwartz knows the guy but we have to use him right a short yardage powerback the kind of guy that can get that 2 to 3 yards and let Kevin do his thing don’t try to share carries just use Lendale when he’s needed
