Around SBN: MLB Trade Deadline: Where each team stands right now

OK, it's late...(look @ the timestamp)

But I got home from work tonight, and per the usual I'm checkin in on ALL the Stuff I missed in the last 9 hrs on POD!

I just got done reading Sean's reply to a question over on Cincy Jungle about how Calvin got the nick-name "MegaTron"..... That's right, we all remember, Roy Williams gave him that Dated, Stupid, CG Movie Nick-Name. I Say right now we shed the Best WR in the NFL of this Shitty, Middle School Call-Sign!

I have full faith that the Brain Trust here at Pride of Detroit can come up with a suitable New Nick-Name for the Star of our Beloved team. And we have the Power to Promote this change!!!

My Official 1st suggestion. This week Calvin will be " Ocho Uno" to me!

Oh and by the way Matthew Stafford is now to be referred to as "9". Not "shiny" (although that's funny), not Staff Infection, (although I have one), But as "9", and "9" ALONE! He's A Man, and he DESERVES it. Plus 9/10 ain't bad right?

On a Final note. I HOPE they have "Esteban" Mic'ed Up this week so we can hear him Scream "Veinti Seis!!!" When Louis Delmas Knocks the Life out of Him!!!!!         GO LIONS!!!!!!!!!

BTW, I REALLY hate the "Staff Infection" nickname

It seems like a holdover from the Culpepper supporters who doubted Stafford. Now that Stafford has won us all over with his play, I’d like to bury that nickname so deep in the ground that it will never see the light of day again.

As for Calvin, hmmmm……..

Calvinator? Oops, another movie-inspired nickname (albeit more timeless)
Calvinosaurus? No…….just no.
Calvinopolis? What? He’s a city?
Calvinnius? The Roman Empire is dead…..let it rest.
Calvincible? Doesn’t sound right.
Calvin & Hobbes? Any good WR2’s named Hobbes? Didn’t think so.

Personally, the nickname I like best is……….Calvin.

He’s one of a kind. In a few years everyone will know his name…….and he’ll only need the one.

What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.

I like Megatron

but I grew up with Transformers

For some reason, “Ocho Uno” makes me think of a big-mouth WR who likes to draw attention to himself by changing his name to his jersey number. I don’t like it for Calvin.

Have to agree...

I like Megatron, too. I think it says he is big, he is bad and no one better mess with him. I too loved the cartoons and had the transformer toys when I was a kid. Actually, I liked the new movies to…. so sue me. What can I say, I dig the action/sci-fi/graphically enhanced genre of movies.

I like the new movies too.....

And the kids love them, so that’s even better!

by KDawg on Dec 6, 2009 11:02 PM EST up reply actions

I'm assuming your kids are older

Because Transformers 2 wasn’t for kids. I watch movies before I allow my 10 year old to watch them, and #2 didn’t make the cut.

I should clarify

They saw the first one (my 4 year old and 10 year old). I watched the 2nd one alone and have not let them see it. However, I didn’t really see much that I thought was too bad for them to see. Their Mom was allowed to watch rated R movies as a kid, especially of the horror genre (Nightmare on Elm St, etc) and she turned out fine….lol. Pretty much, the wife will let them watch anything that does not involve too much gore or nudity. Vulgarity and violence are things that we tell them are in the movies and not appropriate for reality. My kids are well mannered and intelligent, and they know the difference between what is right and wrong.

I grew up with three rules……never lie, never cheat, and never steal. My Dad never stopped my brother and I from cussing, but he always said there is a right time and place for vulgarity (school and in public not being of those). My brother and I are both law abiding citizens and college grads….so apparently it’s not about what your kids see or what video games they play, but how the parents teach them to perceive those things, what is right and wrong, and what the negative consequences are of abusing liberties and privileges.

megatron

is a good nicknam cause like what drewslions said it says he big tall and mega! i wouldnt lie the ocho uno nickname cause u got it right how it implies hes a big mouth..plus the last thing we would need is for ochocinco to be runnin his mouth in detroit sayin how his nickname got copied

by LionsPistonsFan on Dec 5, 2009 10:10 PM EST up reply actions

fail

ocho uno? so you want to spin off of someone else’s nickname? c’mon.

there is nothing wrong with Megatron. I think it suits him and might add to a little to the intimidation factor when he’s heads up looking down on a typical 5’11" 185 corner. especially with his dark eye shield reflecting back. kinda scary, no?

i say we avoid nicknames for Stafford.

How about...

Matthew Stafford, Super Bowl winning quarterback for the Detroit Lions? That has a certain “ring” to it, eh?

by DrewsLions on Dec 5, 2009 7:21 PM EST up reply actions

Megatron is good

Nothing is wrong with that nickname, it actually suits him as a WR. However, I call Stafford and Staff and that’s about as far as I’ll go. QB nicknames don’t work too well unless they’re derogatory.

I like "CJ"

Besides Megatron has gotten his @$$ kicked by Optimus for the past 25 years. wouldn’t you want him named after the dominate Transformer?

CJ is humble, and let’s his actions speak for him. That doesn’t really fit the comparison to Megatron. If you going to name him after a action hero why not something that fits his personality more?

I was dating this married chick for a while and my buddy and I refered to her as Megatron for some reason LOL

and his old lady obviously became Optimus..

Guys are so dumb HAHA

I still use CJ when refering to Calvin in conversations

I agree with it being humble and I also like it because I am lazy and it’s far shorter than Megatron.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

lol

Optimatron Prime?

I am cool with Megatron or CJ, but whatever is clever.
