Fellow Lions Fans..get your heads out of your collective butts!
All this talk about the RB situation is soooooooo ridiculous....
...we keep looking at other running backs like the situations are equal..they are not. Kevin Smith, Jerome Felton and Aaron Brown are prefect examples of the 3 types of backs in the NFL, and Mo Morris is good too.....
If we had someone like Lendell White (who was mentioned in another post) he would be struggling too....the line is no good. We all agree on that...we should be pumped about what we are getting from our group. I can't imagine what these dudes would be doing behind a better line.
Please leave the RB talk out of the FA talk...lets get some Tackles, Guards, Centers and D-Linemen and see which ones stick.

The talk was about Free Agents....
That happen to be running backs.
Lendale white would be an upgrade.
Pull YOUR head out of your ass and read the conversations…lol… if you want to talk about O’lines, then talk about O lines… GEESH!

Nobody will argue with you....
That Oline at the top of the list.
But don’t get your panties in a bunch when discussing FAs as this team needs as much talent as it can get at EVERY position.
I disagree and don't think Lendale White is any better than what we have...
We could use the money else where.
http://cmufootball.blogspot.com/
What money?
Its a capless year….lol. Not only that, I think he would come cheap.

Do we cut Aaron Brown then?
They do the same thing. Pointless to have both. We’re not gonna carry 6 HB’s, so we don’t need 2 of each type.
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
My guess is Morris would be the odd man out...
all you Larry Johnson haters should agree that he’s old…lol.
All I’m saying is White would be a nice addition to the RB stable and would increase Competition at that position.
Sproles would be fine with me also…
Who's our power back then?
Jerome Felton-FB (not a power HB, not used there, doesn’t go off-tackle, just goes straight up the gut as a FB)
Kevin Smith-balanced HB
Aaron Brown-speed HB
Darren Sproles-speed HB
Doesn’t work. Brown and Sproles are redundant, so one doesn’t play, and we still don’t have a power HB. We need a power HB, not more of what we already have that already works.
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
White, however, works
He fills that power HB need.
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
Maurice Morris
Who is currently filling that role of “power HB”.
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
Do we actually use Jerome Felton as a power HB, or just as a FB?
4 kinds. There’s a difference between a power HB who can go off tackle, and a FB who just puts his head down and goes straight ahead. I haven’t seen much “wiggle” from Felton yet. I haven’t seen him move even slightly laterally, and the coaches haven’t put him in position to do so. Our “power” HB is currently Maurice Morris, and I’m underwhelmed by his size, power, and results. I’d be fine with us picking up a power HB in the mid/late rounds…..a big bruiser who can run off tackle.
FB: Jerome Felton
HB: Kevin Smith (balanced), Aaron Brown(speed), and a power HB to replace Morris…..someone like LenDale White?
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
I don't think White is as good as he seems...
and that the Lions RB situation is as bad as it seems…

Breaking down the MAC
Ok, so lets look at the MAC this year from a realistic prospective.
The only teams what have a legit chance to win it are:
Central Michigan
Akron
Temple
Ohio
I am not a believer in Bowling Green like some people project.
It is CMU’s championship to lose honestly. If they stay healthy they should go at worst 7-1 they are fortunate to have Akron at home.
I really think they will beat either Arizona or Michigan State (hopefully both) and can certainly compete with Boston College. I would disappointed with an 8-4 finish (even with a MAC title) and think that 10-2 going into the MAC championship is possible. If that happens they could be Top 25 ranked with a 11-2 record going into the Motor City bowl. Which would be an achievement and I would be truly fired up!
Can they go 13-0 and make BCS bowl???? Very unlikely that they will beat Arizona, MSU, and Boston College even though they certainly can.
At least we don’t play the #1 ranked team in the country this year!

RBs
CapitalLions, i absolutely agree. we have much bigger problems. kevin smith did not have a good game last week against the Packers, but otherwise i think he has been solid. he has good vision, catches the ball, and has made some nice blocks lately. he should remain our primary back. let’s get the O-line fixed and then re-evaluate.
Agree 100%
Not to mention with a better line it keeps Stafford on his feet more. It would be nice to have a big bruising 3rd and short back, but how often are the Lions in third and short lately. Fix the o-line first.
What was K-Smith doing playing football against the Pack last week?
He should be in bed with his leg up…recovering from surgery.
Ah heck, ya can’t chain a wild dog for long eh?
Just give me 25 guys on the last year of their contracts; I'll win a pennant every year....Sparky Anderson
With an O-Lline
the RB’s would be much better. Same with most teams, though. The Lions need to concentrate on a LT and defense, especially the secondary.
"A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five." ~Groucho Marx
Back up your argument
Why not LenDale White over Mo Morris?? It’s not enough to just say “No to LenDale White”. He is obviously better than Mo Morris in every way imaginable.
That said, I agree with CapitalLions…..in all reality we need to focus on fixing the real problems here, which are the O-Line and D-line. However, if we can get a young guy like LenDale White AND improve on the lines via the draft, I do not see why not.
Have You Seen His Numbers?
Hes done nothing…..he lost 25 lbs in the offseason and I think it hurt his game more then it helped…..he lost some of his power…..Id rather sign a chaeper option or role with Smith as primary….Felton as Power….Brown as speed…..We can address this in 2011 if its stil an issue….We dont need to blow money on someone that is overated and will not be the same back as he was in his career year of 2008.

I also if you made me say sign someone.....
……Like Jerome Harrison from Cle or Snelling from Atl…..Both big backs that can run…..No Lendale White….Hes been overated since HS!!!!!
by BennieBladesFan on Dec 5, 2009 9:15 PM EST up reply actions
The reason we don't sign Lendale to play over Mo...
We have Mo…he is on the books. The marginal upgrade (if you think there is one) wouldn’t be worth the price tag that will come with White.
http://cmufootball.blogspot.com/
Maybe, but......
I contribute White’s lack of production this year to the emergence of Chris Johnson and the fact that he is getting a vast majority of the carries in Tennessee. Look at what White did in 2008 if you want to see what he can do. His losing 25 pounds has absolutely nothing to do with his lack of production this year.
And for the record.....
I do not like to say “I told you so”, but I said Larry Johnson would be an improvement over Mo Morris too (in agreement with CLF), and I still think we should have went after him. Just as I suspected, Benson is not durable enough to remain a workhorse back, and his backups before Johnson are oft injured as well. LJ will be the #2 back in Cincy, at a minimum, from here on out…..with chances to be the lead back there if Benson either gets injured or fails to produce at some point.
LenDale White is another guy who is young and can get it done. If we could get him without giving up draft picks, I say it would be an upgrade over Morris, not to mention the fact that White can take some of the load off of Kevin Smith and produce good numbers at the same time. He was in that same role last year when Chris Johnson was a rookie, and he did well in that role. All I am saying is that if he were available and affordable, it would not be a bad move….plus you never know what you will get in a draft pick.
I suppose I can conceed that LW would be a slight upgrade over MM
But I still maintain that the price he will get up to in FA won’t be worth it.
http://cmufootball.blogspot.com/
why would he take a one year deal? with the lions? as a back up?
this isnt TJ Duckett…he will get a big multi-year deal man. If he is as good as you guys think!
I am sure he will get a good deal somewhere to be the feature back…we would have to well over pay to get him to come here. Wow…i can’t believe we are even still arguing this!
http://cmufootball.blogspot.com/
this turns out not to be true
LenDale White is junk. MoMo looked very good in the final game. very good acceleration—run game was effective if he doesn’t get his big runs called back on holds.
Some top quality Guards sound good to me
Might be able to snag one in the 4th.
2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
Zack Follett: he will hurt your mind.
Guards are almost without exception
The hardest postition to judge in college evaluation….you can get a HoFer in the 5th just as easy as the 1st

I think it's a little too early to tell what...
we truly have with Smith, Felton or Brown. That means I agree with you, Capitol. If we can beef up the offensive line… at the very least get one measureable upgrade at guard, then we can see what Smith is really capable of. In my mind, RB is far from an offseason concern.
I'm glad we have reached a consensus here......but.....
I don’t think the Lions see it that way. If they continue with the Best Player Available strategy in the draft and a very good back [Dixon or Dwyer for example] drops into the third round, I would not be surprised if they take him.
The Free Agents are something else. I don’t think an upgrade over Kevin Smith will be available. If an upgrade over Maurice Morris is available I think the Lions should take him.
In my opinion, Lendale White is an upgrade over………..no one I can think of. Including Maurice Morris.
On this i agree...
Lets say for the sake of argument, we can trade up into the end of the 2nd and Blount…or back into the 3rd and stil get a guy like Brandon Tate then I am all for it….but this arguement is about value Lendale White vs the Cost of Lendale White….
http://cmufootball.blogspot.com/
What's the cost?
We don’t know yet. Let’s wait and see. We need to find some bargains if we want to fill more than 1 need this winter. I haven’t been impressed with the performance of Maurice Morris. I still consider White an upgrade. I’m certainly willing to take a look, if nothing else. Turn over every rock.
What? He can’t block a dead gopher? Humph, details.
I am sure he will be looking to be a feature back..and someone will pay him as such..
Ah La Derrick Ward…

by CapitolLions on Dec 6, 2009 12:51 PM EST up reply actions
I would have supported getting Derrick Ward last year.
A big slashing, all around back who can catch and block too……it doesn’t look like it has worked out too well for Tampa. Go figure.
It doesn't matter
It doesn’t matter what coach they hire…. who they draft…… who they get from free agency.
if the same people are doing the choosing then we are DOOMED. There is no Football intelligence in the Lions organization period. Until that changes then the Lions will be the Lions.
If can’t drive a car… then you can’t drive a car. it doesn’t matter what kind of car, how much you paid for it or where you got it from because you can’t drive a car
Yeah But...
Most people don’t know it but POD is a super secret Lions football think tank…
the brightest minds in the world have gathered to sort out the best methodology to insure a rapid turn around for the Honolulu Blue.
Keep it on the down low though…we don’t want to break our cover.
Just give me 25 guys on the last year of their contracts; I'll win a pennant every year....Sparky Anderson
One question though...
why do I want my football players to learn how to drive a car?
Nothing good ever came from a football player in a car…
