"We don't plan on being 'The Greatest Show on Turf'; we're going to build it like an outdoor team," Schwartz said. "We're going to be a big, physical team that can run the ball and stop the run.
"We need to be built to have to go up to Lambeau Field in late December and win a game. We have to be built to go into Soldier Field and win a game in December or January that could mean the division. The best way to do that - when the weather gets bad and the wind gets blowing - you have to be able to run the ball and stop the run.
"The one lesson I learned from Bill Belichick and Jeff Fisher is that if you can run the football and stop the run - if you're strong up front on the offensive line and the defensive line - you'll be consistent from week to week."
My favorite quote from Jim Schwartz's interview with the Boston Globe's Mike Reiss

I love it
Thats the attitude baby !!
Whether it be this year, next year, or 50 years from now. The Detroit Lions will eventually win a Super Bowl............I f'n hope.
Awesome
I don’t have much to add, but I’ve been saying this for years while we’ve been picking up glorified perimeter players: if you win the battle in the trenches, you win games.
All the right things
Are being said but, Rod Marinelli said the same things.

Yup
I’m in. We have the o-coordinator who wants the same thing as the head coach too so bring on the cold weather and lets OWN IT!
Any foreshadowing..
To the DRAFT!!! :-D But really, I think I would respect a coach who said nothing and just made things happen, rather than talk the talk and not walk the walk ( i.e. just about every coach since Fonts.)
Something isn't right
Im confused. I remember when Schwartz said this at his intro press conference. But What I want to know is how do all the pundits hear “Lions will draft a QB” and then get “an LT to protect him” from Mayhew and Schwartz’s comments? It seems pretty clear what direction we will be going. And drafting lots of offensive players doesnt seem to be that direction.
By the way, good article to discuss at this time. Very relevant considering all the Stafford love going around.
