"They made an offer, but I’m going to test the market and see what’s out there for me," Orlovsky said today in a telephone interview with the Associated Press. "I’m pretty confident that I’m going to get a better offer."

ugh...
they told him daunte would be the starter. lame. i can’t blame him for testing the market, but i can’t imagine he’d draw interest as a starter anywhere else.
I'm kind of dissapointed by this news..
Mainly by the fact that if they told Dan O. that Culpepper would be the starter, that means they aren’t planning on seriuosly letting Stanton compete and have already made up their mind.
Honestly I think stanton has the ability to just bomb it down the field as well as culpepper, and he’s just as mobile if he stays healthy. The only downside to stanton is , he might not be quite as fat and so he might actually play well.
The only positive I take out of this is, it seems like they are banking on C-Pepp this year and that means they might not draft Stafford. Of course, as much as I have been against Stafford from the beginning , it would be nice to not have to sit and watch C-Pepp every week.
Mayhew said last week Stanton was their "development guy"
He isn’t even close it seems like.

Development guy
I’m not sure an 0-16 team has much use for a “development guy.” But they must be smarter, they work in the NFL, right?
Lol
Well, Matt Millen and my dog would be pretty comparable when it comes to running an NFL team. (No offense to my dog for saying that. Ha)

My guess is that...
…they either pick up a FA, draft a QB (Stafford #1 or Sanchez/Freeman at 1-20) or trade for a QB. Culpepper is not the future of Detroit. They desperately need to find someone else. I would have liked Orlovsky to come back. He may yet when no one else wants him as a starter.

I think we should look at
J.P. Lossman to take DanO’s place, I think he is already content to be a backup and is a solid backup.
Deuce McAllister to help mentor Kevin Smith. (I don’t know how much interest he might have so if the price is right I would love to have him here)
Owen Daniels of course because we need a TE for once and he’s nuts.
Dre Bly, because we need a CB and he is a solid player and we miss him.
What do you guys think about Gibril Wilson?
Just some thoughts.. any comments?
Culpepper????
I’m surprised there content letting Culpepper being given the job, nothing he did last season showed he earned it. I think this moves means the lions will draft a QB with the 1st or 20th pick. Or trading for Derek anderson from the browns, funny thing is who ever they draft will probably get thrown into the fire way to quick because I think Culpepper will fumble this chance again, and if they get Anderson he will probably beat Culpepper for the job. I just was hoping Orlorsky would get a fair chance, maybe somwhere else…
I know that you know that I know that you know
Are the Lions planting this “Daunte is the Starter” information to players to create confusion for draft and contract purposes?
This is the second player to “exit” the Lions saying that Culpepper is the starter.
Or am I overestimating their sophistication and they really have Culpepper penciled in?
I’m on the Aaron Curry or Jason Smith bandwagon at this point.

Culpepper has the connections
It seems to be no planting of info, just stupidity.

I'm sure he'll realize Detroit's offer isn't so bad once he gets out there
Still, I don’t see why anyone would want to come back here. Maybe he realizes being the backup means he’ll get to play eventually due to injuries or other things.

This brings up the question
Would you like to be a backup on a regular NFL team or have a chance to start for the Lions? If the money is the same, it is a tough call.
Probably the chance to play
Sitting on the bench sucks.

I’m sure the offer will be about just the same where ever he goes what really pisses him off probably is them telling him he will be the back up and if he plays well enough he can start. I’m sure he probably feels like you or me thinkng he played better than culpepper why are you telling me I’m the back up…
