Saturday Free Agency Update/Open Thread
I'm going to be away from a computer tonight, so if there is any breaking news an update will have to wait. You can talk about all of the latest news in the comments section, so I'm sure you will be aware of anything that happens thanks to other users on the site.
With that being said, here is a quick update on the latest:
- The Patriots have traded quarterback Matt Cassel to the Kansas City Chiefs. According to SI's Peter King, Mike Vrabel is part of this trade, and all the Chiefs gave up to acquire the two players was their second-round pick (#34 overall). That is pretty unbelievable. I've never been on the Cassel bandwagon, but for only a second-round pick, that is a steal for sure, especially since Vrabel is part of the deal.
- Maurice Morris is now in Detroit and will probably meet with the media sometime later today.
- Kurt Warner's agent has talked with the 49ers.
- The Rams signed center Jason Brown.
- Bart Scott did end up signing with the Jets.

Not a bad signing in my opinion, Lions needed a half decent wideout, and he’ll fit the bill nicely.

Nah, we don't need Pioli....
Not that Kansas City is guaranteed to turn around, but apparently spending the bucks on Pioli is starting to pay off for KC.
Mayhew to Belicheck: “…Hey our second round pick is better than theirs and we’d love Cassel and Vrabel for the 33rd pick”
Belicheck to Mayhew: “…who are you again and why do you keep calling me?”

Really surprised that a second rounder got BOTH Cassel and Vrabel. I would’ve guessed such a trade would cost a swap of first rounders, plus a 2nd or 3rd. Surprising, when I would think they could’ve gotten more out of some other teams.
Also surprising that NE would let Cassel go this early. I figured they’d franchise him and deal him, but more like in the summer, when it was clear if Brady was 100% ready to go for camp or not.
