I think Hanson is a restricted free agent...
as strange as that seems. I believe that the Lions still hold his rights under the original contract he signed as a rookie. They just kept extending the contract under the original collective bargaining agreement. Anyway, my point is that he will be here next season… unless he retires. He won’t.
Yup
The Lions’ article is misleading. Hanson is not totally unrestricted due to some 1983 transition tag rule. Lions have first right of refusal or something like that.

wait wait wait wait wait
The UFA list means that the Lions are not going to renew those contracts right?
Dammit, why would you not re-sign Hanson. And I know he sucks, but Stanley Wilson is my boy cause at least he tries, and thats more than you can say for most of that team. I bet Shaun Cody becomes a serviceable Dlineman somewhere too.
No
It just means they will be free agents on February 27 if they aren’t re-signed.

Hanson, Norris the only keepers
K Jason Hanson and FB Morran Norris are the only guys I’d really like ‘em to re-sign before free agency starts. Beyond those two, the only other guys who did anything positive at all were QB Orlovsky and DE Corey Smith. Honestly, I can take ’em or leave ’em. Smith has been a FA before and never generated much interest. I wouldn’t blame Orlovsky if he’d rather be the Pats #3 and see what happens with Cassel over the next year or so. Or be a back up some where closer to his home state of Conn like the Jets, Buffalo, Wash, Bal etc. The rest are back ups at best so good riddens.
