Rams release Orlando Pace

The Rams just announced they're releasing 7 time Pro Bowler Orlando Pace. Should the Lions look into seeing what it would take to sign him? He's a proven veteran at tackle, one of the Lions most pressing needs, would instantly upgrade the offensive line, and could be an invaluable mentor to any younger linemen we pick up in the draft. It also makes it much easier for the Lions to choose Aaron Curry with the number one pick.

I do not think we need to look at Orlando Pace, I think we need to draft an Orlando Pace, and have the new tackle for the next 10 or more years.

He would be worth picking him up if he wanted to mentor I'll takles too

I don’t believe he’s full time starter now and god knows some team will give him a shot

Hasn't he been injured the last two years?

If he wasn’t injured, the Rams would have kept him. I mean, they pretty much kept him as a slave since the whole franchise tag thing came out.

I caveat this with:
IF he is not too injured
IF we don’t draft a LT
THEN we could use him for 2 years as a patch

He's been injured

and it frees up $6 million on the salary cap for the Rams. If he’s willing to be a mentor to the younger guys we need to get, and can give us a solid backup/part time starter, I think it could be worth a shot.

How 'bout LG?

I’d bring him in to compete and as a rotational guy….if he’s a bit too slow, move him closer to the ball.

On Sirius NFL the other day, it sounded as if he was going to start over again with a new coach/gm, it was going to be with a different team…. and at his age, usually vets like to go to a contender, so I doubt you’ll see him in a lion’s uniform.
