Monday Notes: Bill Davidson Once Tried to Buy Lions
- Tom Kowalski believes the Lions are going to draft a left tackle with the top overall pick.
- Apparently former Pistons owner Bill Davidson, who passed away on Friday, tried to buy the Lions back in the day. Oh, how history would have been different.
- Cornerback Chris Carr has reached an agreement with the Ravens. Carr visited the Lions shortly after free agency began.
- Linebacker Angelo Crowell is going to visit the Buccaneers today. It appears that a contract offer is likely, meaning a signing could be imminent as well. Crowell visited the Lions last week and obviously left without a deal, so it looks like he may be Tampa Bay-bound for good.
- Tight end L.J. Smith is going to sign with either the Lions or Falcons in the very near future. It seems like it will be the Falcons at this point.
- Aaron Curry sounded excited by the Lions' trade for Julian Peterson. Curry wants to play in the middle between Peterson and Ernie Sims.
- The Lions' voluntary offseason workout program gets underway today, and coordinator of physical development Jason Arapoff spoke with reporters on Friday about it and the team's renovated weight room.
- Jim Schwartz attended Ohio State's pro day and was impressed by Beanie Wells.
- Boston College defensive tackles B.J. Raji and Ron Brace worked out for NFL teams last week, and a Lions assistant was in attendance.
- Mike Mayock said that the Lions shouldn't draft Matthew Stafford on The Dan Patrick Show last week.
- A blogger known for correctly predicting compensatory selections thinks the Lions will only get two seventh-rounders.
- The Ravens are apparently going to release cornerback Samari Rolle.
- The Rams released wide receiver Torry Holt on Friday.
- DeMaurice Smith is the new executive director of the NFLPA.

when I heard about Davidson’s death…and I make no excuses, partly because I KNOW I wasn’t alone in this…one of the fleeting thoughts that crossed my mind was, why couldn’t it have been WCF instead?

Davidson's Death
I live in Indy now but still follow my Detroit teams to my grave. Yes, even the Lions.
With that I gotta say to above poster. OUCH! Not cuz your wrong, but cuz your right.
I couldnt imagine owning a team and being so lazy and bad at it that I dont even care that my the fans who follow my team hate me.
I wish that old geezer would read some blogs. Maybe then he would “get” whats wrong with his team…thru all the blogging I’ve done we Lions fans are the most hopeless. Even with that senile owner in Oakland who thinks he can run his team, at least they have some history and tradition on their side to fall back on. The Lions dont.
Under Ford we have won a total of one play-off game and the Lions pushed away one of the best RB’s of all time. We also now own the worst record of all time.
So you know what, if WFC and his failing car company can get with the times or better yet, sell the Lions, then alas, we will have to wait for him to die in order for the Lions to win.
Thats sad.
As for Mr Davidson, I was to young to know he built that stadium himself. I wish more owners did that then using tax dollars to pay for “entertainement”. Here in Indy we love our new stadium w/ retractable roof, but the fact the city pretty much paid for it all on the taxpayers dime, we dont love that…or the shitty city roads we have to navigate like there are mines in the road.
Personally, I have little hope for change
