Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Let's Be Realistic

I will be the first to admit that acquiring Jay Cutler would make a good offseason turn excellent.  It would automatically make us, at least, a team to contend with and take seriously.  I won't predict what our record would be, but you get what I'm saying.   I completely understand the fervor of Lions fans right now.  It's easy to get caught up in that hopefulness.   Trust me, I want it too....

With that being said, the chances of Cutler being traded to the Lions are slim to none.  There are a list of teams that should/could be interested in him.  Minnesota and Chicago ought to be...Tampa Bay COULD be (considering they tried to get him already)...the Jets also are need of a solid QB.

Out of those teams, why would you be interested in Detroit....?   Even if we seem to be on the verge of turning things around as a franchise....we still have a long way to go.

However, Skip Bayless (who claims to know Cutler on a personal level) said today that he knows how Cutler is proud and confident, so he wouldn't shy away from a challenge.

So, perhaps I'm wrong.  I say our chances are no better than 50/50....and that's probably shooting high.   What do you think?

Really now?

That’s interesting. I didn’t know that. Hmmm….well…maybe he’d like it here. Who knows.

My worry

My worry is KC if McDaniels wants Cassel as bad as he says he does I think they’ll get 1 st shot. Lets hope they are happy with Cassel in KC and won’t make the trade ….

by MotorcityMaddogg on Mar 16, 2009 10:49 AM EDT reply actions

KC will not trade Cassel to the Broncos for Cutler, they got too good of adeal for Cassel and would have the Patriots pissed at them. Bellichk hates his former coaches and McDaniels wouldn’t be any different. SF and NYJ are the largest threats to the Lions. Plus I think its going to take more then draft picks in order to get Cutler according to what Denver’s front office has reported.

SF a threat?

They just signed Alex Smith again. I doubt they are going to go after Jay Cutler. I would say Chicago and Minnesota are just as much of a threat with their QB situations being a little out of whack as well. NYJ are definitely a threat.

i see the jets as the main threat to us getting cutler

they need a QB more than anyone as of right now their starter is kellen clemens, last time he was their starter they went 4-12

Realism? NO NOT HERE!

Come on, almost two thirds of the voters think Detroit has a better than 50% chance to get Cutler?

There is less than a 50% chance that Cutler is even traded. Denver has a contract with Cutler and will probably hold him to it. Cutler’s options are to sit and not get paid. Denver may even be able to get back some of any bonus paid to Cutler when he signed.

Denver has pretty much all the cards here. Not sure if I would want a prima donna like this anyway.

I think we have as much to offer as any of the teams mentioned and have the best reciever in the league to throw to, so i think we could make a case as good as any and who knows a tennessee boy with a former tenn coach whos a new coach and i dont think schwartz would entertain the idea of trading him lol.they said they’d want more than draft picks well we have the #1 and they would definetly need that to get a QB of any caliber question is what else would they want and are willing to give it,if a trade is on the table at all in the future-I for one would love to see it happen!!!!!!!

Denver has to move Cutler

Denver needs to make a deal. Cutler is not going back to Denver. If McDaniels wants to build a QB from the ground up. He can only do it by drafting a QB. With the 1st pick he can get the QB he wants. Anything less. He might get stuck with leftovers.

Money is the issue with this point...

…Denver may not want to dish out that money considering their salary cap concerns after this free agency period. Denver does need to move Cutler, but they may want players.
