Lions Sign TE Will Heller, Release LB Anthony Cannon
The Lions signed free agent tight end Will Heller and released linebacker Anthony Cannon. Heller played for the Seahawks the last three seasons. Cannon has been on and off the Lions' roster since he was drafted in 2006. This move adds depth to the tight end position, but it also may suggest that L.J. Smith is no longer an option, which would be interesting considering it looks like his deal with the Falcons fell apart earlier today. I'm not sure if Smith could still be signed, but maybe the Lions assumed he was headed to Atlanta and decided to sign Heller. I don't know if they would sign Smith as well, but I imagine we will know in a few days.

L.J. Smith?
I am going to take a stab and say I guess that means L.J. Smith isn’t coming to Detroit?
Sigh Wish we could actually land a big name TE for once.
GO LIONS! RESTORE THE ROAR!

Heller
He’s a career backup TE. I don’t see adding Heller as a sign that they are no longer interested in L.J. Smith.

Hopefully LJ is still a possibility
I would still love to get L.J Smith it would be nice to get a Tight End that may be able to take the focus off our receivers, as well as one that could block and help out our less than stellar O-Line
