I have not heard much more about this since the rumor came out. I had heard that they might release something on April 1 (fitting), but I had some hopes on my part.I want to argue for a retro logo instead of a more modern, overly colorful feel like the one that won the Freep contest.
I lived in Tampa when they rolled out the new logo. I lived in Atlanta when they rolled out that new logo. Both of those logos were modernized versions of the old logos--almost completely changing them from their previous versions. I think this would be a mistake for Detroit.
In Tampa and Atlanta, their teams were never good prior to the logo change. There was no history there that they were trying to preserve. They WANTED to make people forget the old teams and focus on the new one.
The Lions, on the other hand, have a rich history--some of it I actually want to remember. For the last couple years, as we started sinking farther and farther from respectability, I started wearing my throwback shirts more often. I even found a couple nice bootleg ones on Tshirt sites. Everytime I wore one it reminded me that if the Lions were once good (even if not in my lifetime) then they might once again be good.
Lets hope that they go with a retro Lion logo. Go Lions.
