Monday Notes: Opinions Differ on Top Overall Pick
- Just a heads up: Look for info on Pride of Detroit's community mock draft to be posted sometime later today or tomorrow, with the latter being the most likely. A brief summary of what the POD mock draft will be all about is that I will take readers of the site and let them be a GM for each team, and then they will go through the draft. Depending on how long it takes, it will last either one or two rounds, with the hope obviously being for getting through the first day of the draft.
- There are differing opinions about who the Lions should take with the top overall pick, but for the most part the only players mentioned with the No. 1 selection are Matthew Stafford and Jason Smith, as illustrated in USA Today's mock draft.
- Dave Birkett has the Lions taking Stafford with the top pick and Rey Maualuga with the 20th selection.
- Dan Orlovsky's high school is going to retire his number.
- The cause of the boat accident that claimed the lives of Corey Smith, Marquis Cooper, and William Bleakley apparently happened due to "poor anchoring."
- With the Final Four now set, Curse of Bobby Layne 50 Years is in first-place in the Pride of Detroit tournament pool. Sawmill22 is in second, and I am in third, 5 points out of the lead. Damn you, Louisville.

Ha!
All the Cardinal faithful here is Louisville are making excuses and sulking. It’s great! Good job, Izzo!
I’m still on the Curry bandwagon as no one has been able to convince me otherwise. I would think that they would be negotiating with his camp as well. I believe Smith and Monroe are close to equal but Monroe is the more talented player and had the better college career. Please, just don’t draft Stafford

Like I posted in the other thread
Why would I support a rival school that I don’t like? I don’t hate the other schools. That’s like rooting for OSU in the title game. Makes no sense.

I agree with Sean
Why create a rivalry just to turn around and root for them later. I don’t care if it gives the Big Ten more cred, I don’t want MSU to win.

Opinions differ, indeed
I am a huge Curry nutswinger, but as I just wrote, it’s getting harder and harder to believe that the’s the choice. I’d like to hope that’s by Mayhew’s brilliant design, but what’s the point of a smokescreen when you hold all the cards @ 1.1?
Peace

Very Very.....
…..True…..I want Curry so bad at MLB…..Dont think its going to happen though…..Im imaging Peterson, who many scouts say is the best cover lb in the nfl, and Curry, who also can play the pass, domiating on Defense………However I just dont think it will happen.

What's the fun
With rooting for all the colleges in Michigan. I root for Michigan, and I will probably root for Central once I go there. Not ever State

Final Four Aside
Dave Birkett is an idiot if he thinks that Maualuga is going to be available at 20

Actually . . .
I’ve participated in several blogger/homer/fan mocks, and Maualuga and Oher have both fallen that far as often as not. As the Pro Day 40 times come in, they’re much faster than this year’s broken combine times, and the RB/WR/CB are really starting to climb as a result. That might or might not have anything to do with NFL draft boards, but the mocks are saying Rey-Rey might be there for us.
Peace

crazier things have happened
Do you guys remember 2004? Many mocks had Kevin Jones going in the 8-15 region, and he ended up falling to us at 30. I guarantee 3-4 GMs will make picks that don’t make any sense to those in the bloggosphere (like when Miami drafted Ted Ginn a couple years back instead of Brady Quinn). There’s a real chance that one of these guys slated in the top 10 might slip to #20.

Hey, Sean!
NFL just released the pre-season schedule. You might want to post it.
Looks like were playing the Falcons, Browns, Colts, and Bills

draft
as badly as i would like to see curry anchoring the middle of our defense, i would just as badly like to see the pass protection and run blocking improve. i still go with jason smith as a top pick.
i agree with the guy with the kevin jones at #30 reference. year in and year out, someone makes a head scratcher in the first round (minnesota deciding not to draft their pick in time, causing a virtual stampede by other teams to the podium, all to move down and take kevin williams….stupidest thing i ever saw) i think we may be able to still get malaluga at 20 and a good d-tackle at 33.
by the way, congrats state for embarrassing louisville in the tournament and screwing up everybody at work’s pool! sweeeeet!!

Do you want us to express interest in this mock draft?
Or are you going to ask people who post often on the site?
by ReichardZ on Mar 30, 2009 9:09 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Details will be up tomorrow
It’ll basically be first come first serve for who wants to be a part of it. I haven’t decided how people will get teams yet, though. I’m leaning toward just letting them pick and then doing a random drawing for the Lions or something.
