Chris Simms never made it to detroit
signed with broncos. kind of bummed. btu happy with both of today’s signings.
He would have had a chance to start in Detroit
He won’t in Denver unless Culter gets hurt or they trade Cutler to Detroit (wink, wink)

Two signings that will help the team improve.
I was really hoping for some good news on the LJ Smith front as well. That would have made this a very solid day in my mind. But with him on his way to Atlanta we might be out of luck
congrats on the
Phillip Buchanon signing… our G.M. dragged his feet. Last season he really came into his own. He always struggled a bit with man to man coverage giving his man way to much space to receive the ball, but he will be missed. $8.5 mil for two years is pretty decent to considering what others have signed for

Thanks man!
’preciate you coming around to give your thoughts . . . you think Buchanon was playing more scared, or was in scheme? How often were the Bucs playing man to man, anyway? Good luck to you guys this year—my oldest daughter decided to be a Bucs fan this year, so you guys better win or my Sundays are REALLY going to suck!
Peace

Special Teams
Does Buchanon still return punts and kicks? I know he did in Oakland but I don’t recall seeing him do it last year.
they talked about it
and never put him back there… i wouldnt take that to mean he’s incapable, as Gruden was known for misusing his personnel… He would put Ike Hilliard and Michael Clayton back there to return punts/kickoffs….
I really saw Buchanon getting more involved this season in terms of stripping the ball and making splash plays.. it’s surprising that we didnt bring him back…
Where do you guys think you will go in the Draft? Stafford? Curry? OL?

Personally
I think they are leaning away from Stafford. I have no idea what position they are leaning toward yet, though. Probably once they are done signing free agents we will have a better idea.

I completely agree Shawn...
I just don’t see Mayhew gambling on a QB with his first pick ever as the GM. Let alone it being the No. 1 overall.
Another reason is that everything they are doing (not pursuing LB’s or O-Line in Free Agency) points to building the core of the team in those areas through the draft, especially this draft being so deep in those two positions. Buchannon and Henry are mercenaries, they are not part of the long term future of the team, just look at their contracts. They are fulfiling an immediate and glaring need for competent starting CB’s.
I see Detroit’s going one of the two following ways:
- Curry, #20 OT/OG (Beatty) #33 CB (Smith?) maybe TE Pettigrew if he slips.
-OR-
#1 OT (Smith or Monroe) #20 LB (Laurinitis), #33 CB
Excellent pick-up
Two average or better CB’s is the best we have had in awhile, with a little depth thrown in. I hope their avoidance of LB tends towards Curry first overall, and OL with the #20 or #33. And Buchanon might have been the best FA CB we could get, as I think Carr never really thought about Detroit seriously.

Jabari Greer or Mcfadden would have been nice
but ill take buchanon and henry over fisher and brian kelly anyday.
good scenario...
If we sign Mike Peterson and draft Aaron Curry no.1, then pick up the best OT at no.20 and have them start at LG for 1-2 years. Then with the 33rd pick take Dline. Then with the 3rd round picks look at Secondary and possibly WR(Brian Robiskie looks good) or stick to defense and add depth at LB. The rest of the draft should be Dline and Oline.
