POD Community Mock Draft: Pick No. 19

With the nineteenth pick of the 2009 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Mississippi defensive tackle Peria Jerry.
Here is n1ck34's reasoning for the pick:
Sorry Lions. The Bucs have much more obvious holes at the QB and WR spots, but Josh Freeman shouldn't go this early, and the receivers here are questionable. Andre Smith was a consideration, but for whatever reason the Bucs still feel confident with Donald Penn and Jeremy Trueblood. Instead, Peria Jerry will immediately start at the hole left by the departure of Jovan Haye. With his pass rushing ability combined with that of Gaines Adams, the Buccaneers will strike fear into the heart of offensive lines for years to come. Raheem Morris and G.M. Mark Dominik are both defense-first guys, and this position should solidify an aging defense.

Great pick
He is a perfect DT for the Tampa system. If the Lions had this guy last year, the run defense wouldn’t have been the worst in history and we may have seen a win or 3. He’s a half-way decent pass rusher, too. Reminds me of a young Cory Redding in a contract year

I think this pick makes sense.......
but, the word is that Tampa will take Freeman. I personally don’t think highly of Freeman and hope that he never falls into a position where Detroit would pick him. Although I feel pretty strongly that Stafford will be our new QB of the future.
Did you think about another DE[Ayers]? Or a DE/LB project like Conner Barwin or Larry English? Tampa does not pick again until the third round so a reach may be more justified.
Some mockers are calling for Andre Smith here. I hope he is gone before the Lions pick at #20.

Please not Freeman
Freeman to me just seems like he is the beneficiary of circumstance. He should not be a first round pick.
Anyways, I thought about English, but Barwin is better for a 3-4 I think, and Ayers is a workout wonder to me. I did really consider Michael Johnson, but I heard his stock is slipping. Also, I don’t know if I missed something, but what happened to Ole Miss DE Greg Hardy?

Awesome
Now we can draft Stafford AND Freeman and hedge our bets.
There’s probably a higher chance of the Lions doing that than DrewsLions…since anything infinitesimal is greater than zero.

I think that's a compliment?
I won’t let the cat out of the bag… but I’ll tell you for certain that I never once ever considered Freeman. I won’t please everyone with my pick, but it certainly wouldn’t be a second quarterback.

I don't like the sound of that Drew.
Cue the ominous theme music.
