Well that sucks
hardest schedule in the NFC North
by zeke313 on Apr 14, 2009 7:10 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yah
What the shite? I thought you were supposed to get some kind of consideration for a crap record and they throw in both the superbowl teams?
I guess there’s the other top 5 teams in the draft too but…dag.
It’s a mean way to open the season

Schedules are set years in advance
I think 2 games are based on where you finish in your division. The rest are determined well in advance.

Yup
And those two teams are the Redskins and Saints cuz they’re the worst two NFC teams that weren’t already on the schedule. Joy!

so they decided to screw us when we were…. last in the division. hmm….
by handsomerob1 on Apr 15, 2009 12:33 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
We have the toughest record in the
NFC North….because we don’t get to play an 0-16 team twice.
lemme see…
LLLLLWWLWLWLLWL
5-11 seems doable here. Not the end of the world.
by Trysdor on Apr 14, 2009 7:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I'm sorry but I cant stop laughing
There is a strong chance we could be 0-6 at the end of week 6. That would make it 0-22 stretch
by msivits on Apr 14, 2009 7:32 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That would mean like 1 win in the previous 30 games
Holy crap.

we haven’t won in green bay in like 17 years

At least it isn't in December this year
And we don’t play the Bears twice in a five-week span for the first time in a couple years.

I really dont see us losing to Vikings
We always give them a run for there money.
by zeke313 on Apr 14, 2009 7:36 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
we should have beat them this year
if only end zones were deeper…
by handsomerob1 on Apr 15, 2009 12:34 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The only bright side of this
Is we will find out really fast if there is improvement in the team or if we should start getting prepared for another 1st overall pick.
by msivits on Apr 14, 2009 7:36 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Think of this
Week one we our secondary tested against one of the best passing offense, week two we get our run defense tested by one of the best runners…. Once again I can’t stop laughing
by msivits on Apr 14, 2009 7:38 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Week One
Should theoretically make our offense look great and our defense look terrible. Brees goes up in Fantasy drafts a notch or two….
Saints and Redskins are the 2 ‘floater’ games so that’s not so bad.
Playing the NFC West is a good deal. AFC North not so much.
by HoorayForEverything on Apr 14, 2009 7:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Would you rather have the AFC East or South?
At least there is the Bungles and the Browns. The Lions will play the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth worst teams in the NFL [by 2008 record]. They’ll play five games against playoff teams. How easy a schedule do you want?
by NorthLeft12 on Apr 15, 2009 7:12 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Think of this
No ROD,New looking team,better outcome

Another thought
There is some good in this schedule, we can see if Gunner means business with all this talk of going after the QB. What better way than facing Brees in week 1. Lord knows we will have some blitzing opportunities.

Weather
Looks like two games will only be affected by the weather.

I was just thinking
at least they aren’t playing at Green Bay in December.
by James L on Apr 14, 2009 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I might have to trip up to GB for that one
see if I can find myself a friendly scalper…
by ahtrap on Apr 15, 2009 3:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I like it
It’s a front-loaded schedule. Sure, we face Arizona and Baltimore in the second half of the season, but we get most of our toughest games out of the way by week 6. Look at it this way…we’ll know who we are and what we can do by the bye week, so if we’re doing well (I’m being hypothetical here) there won’t be the late season let-down we had in ’07.
If nothing else, we should be able to end the season stronger than we finish, which always feels better in the offseason.

Good chance against Vikings WK 2
I’m pretty sure their best defensive players will be suspended that week.
by Runnin' Rebel on Apr 14, 2009 7:51 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
It's better than last year anyway
BTW, I love NFL.com’s interactive schedule thing they have on the site now. It’s fantastic and sharp.
I sincerely hope we pick up at least one win in the first 6 games, I don’t want this losing streak to get much bigger.

That is really sweet
Noticed that the Chargers and Titans play on Christmas. Glad the Lions didn’t get that game (not that there was any chance they would). Ruining one holiday each year is enough.

Best thing about the schedule
We play Indy in the pre-season game where the starters generally see the most action this will be a good primer for the game against the Saints.
by Runnin' Rebel on Apr 14, 2009 9:27 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Wow.
Can’t say much more than that. Pretty tough schedule. If they get lucky, very lucky, I can see 6-10. I just hope they hurry the hell up and win one. The losing streak has got to go.

I agree 100%
As long as it is continued, all the new guys will inherit that losing streak. How long was the Bucs losing streak?
Thank god they beat KC at the end of 2007 or this would be brutal.

what?
No body wants to ask where is the primetime games? Maybe next year.
by tigerfaninChicago on Apr 14, 2009 11:45 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
It's been quite a while since we had one
I think we played the Rams on MNF during the preseason once. Also there was a game against the Bucs on a Sunday night. They were a long time ago it feels like.

Weeks 11 through 17 is Sunday night flex Schwartz will get us there this year . GO LIONS!

Looking it over
Once my man above asked about faith I had to try optimism once. If there’s some
improvements. There’s a chance and I use that word loosely of 8-8. Opening up is hardcore. If the team can get 1-6 before the bye week and not fall apart from it…up until week 13 are all winnable games imho. Ending it against San Fran and Chicago at home….2-5 before the bye week isn’t impossible.
First glance…yikes, but second look…I wanna see what happens. Offseason…love/hate right now.

Don't worry about the record so much.
Of course I want them to win a few games [the earlier the better], but I am looking forward to the Lions staying in the games until the fourth quarter in 2009. Those first quarter blow outs last year were killing me.
2009 – be competitive.
2010 – return to mediocrity.
2011 – make a run for the playoffs.

I get to see them!
Playing in Cincinnati! Sweet. I’ll be buying those tickets as soon as they’re on sale. Once every 5 or 6 years, the last time they played in Cincy, and it was pre-season, our best time of year, I am willing to make the two hour drive to watch my beloved Lions.

5-11….I sound like a broken record, I think that’s my 1st glance prediction every year.
There’s a chance at a surprise/steal early on against the Vikings, the game in Detroit is always close, and the Lions certainly could have won both Minnesota games last year. But I think it’s going to be 0-6 at the break, followed by a….wait for it….TWO GAME WINNING STREAK!!!!
After that, the Browns, Bengals, and 49ers seem winnable, and maybe poach a game against Jay Cutler? I recall his last time out against the Lions didn’t go all that well for him….a possibility of 6-10 in there, but I’ll stick to 5-11.
by ahtrap on Apr 15, 2009 3:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That is a reasonable prediction.
Should ensure the Lions get a top ten draft pick in 2010. So, don’t trade any of our 2010 picks Mayhew!
