Scott Wright's Mock Draft

Scott Wright, the draftnik who runs draftcoutdown.com has just updated his mock draft and it looks pretty strong.

#1 - Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia

#20 - Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss

#33 - James Lauranaitis, MLB, Ohio St,

#65 - Fili Moala, DT, USC

#82 - Chase Coffman, TE, Missouri

I wouldn't be too disappointed with that draft, although I'd like a bit more defence. Like I've said before, I hope we get an extra pick or two to help fill our many holes

I like it...

Given that they decide on Stafford. The only thing that gave me pause is Laurinaitis at #33. I don’t see him being available at that point. After looking at some of his game highlights (and lowlights) I think it might be worth taking him at #20 and going for Beatty at #33.

If Oher's there

then he is a perfect fit. THere’s a good chance he drops so that is why it doesn’t really pay to grab a workout warrior like Jason Smith #1 overall.

Oher has as much talent as any LT in the draft, actually not named Andre Smith, but he’d be a steal there and paired with Cherilus at RT you’d have a nice line.

Coffman may seem out of place, given that you want all defense, but if you get Lauranits and Moala, you are getting 2 1st round talents that could plug up your greatest weakness, the middle of the defense. It is not necessary to draft all defense, cuz they are rookies and not all are gonna be good.

Coffman would be a nice weapon. Your D and O are still not gonna be that great. So why not get a piece for the offense?

But Scott Wright has

little credibility with me. I think Percy Harvin is a waste of a pick with the Giants. Not cuz he isn’t talented, but cuz Harvin would be a waste with our OC’s lack of imaginatiion.

Plus he gives us

Herman Johnson in the third round. An absolute joke right there. I guess he did okay with Clint Sintim and also my favorite pick if he ends up on the Giants, Ramses Barden.

Herman Johnson...

Will be a probowl guard with a good OLine coach…. your opinion tells me that NYG does not have such a coach.

by CLF on Apr 15, 2009 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions

?

Herman Johnson is 390lbs. He will be out of the league like your former all-world fat Aaron Gibson if he doesn’t stay away from McDonalds and Dairy Queen.

ANd the giants have probably not even arguably the best O-Line coach in the game, considering how our O-Line got here and that they are the best in the game.

I just know that Herman Johnson is like every single other gigantic O-Lineman that weighs over 360+.

If he loses weight, then he may be good. I wouldn’t touch him with anything other than a 6th rounder. He is a horrible pass blocker, as evidence that his QB at LSU was eating dirt for dinner every game.

I wouldn't call

Jason Smith a workout warrior, more of a guy with a huge work ethic that wants to be good. He didn’t really boost his stock with strong combine numbers, more because he has a perserverance and cannot handle being second best

I've been a pretty stauch defender of drafting a TE

So I’m not fussed with Coffman, but like I said, I want us to trade down and acquire extra picks.

TE is a smart pick

I know you guys have a ton of needs, but its not like TE is not one of them. The only thing you couldn’t use an upgrade at would probably be WR and LB, tho MLB and a slot WR would be nice.

TE whether or not you get a QB would be a wise choice, It is a nice safety blanket and since this draft is deep in legit talent like Coffman, there should be no reason to let him go. He could be just as good as Scheffler. Pair him with Megatron and you have 2 nice options.

If we Have to take Stafford this looks ok...

BUT, I would rather have the secondary addressed before a TE. Try acquiring a TE later.

Why not go after Gonzo?

Doesn’t he want out of KC? I haven’t heard any news about that lately.

KC wants a 2nd rd pick for him

I don’t think he’ll come to the D anyways, he wants to go to a contender. I think the Giants would be a perfect for him.

We dont have to take Stafford

personally I would prefer Sanchez, If we have to take a QB. I am all about Smith/Monroe #1. I was leaning towards Curry, but paying a guy that much and changing his position, doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me. Our schedule is tough and I cant see us winning more than 2-3 games this year. We will have a top pick next year. If Pepper doesnt get it done go Qb next year.

Trust me, I Dont Want Stafford...

But unless some Miracle happens he will be sporting the D on his hat April 25th. Now, I have nothing against him, but I dont think we are in a position to draft a Franchise QB, why not wait until next year of the year after?
