First Lions' Win?

First things first, this idea originated from ATL Lion's previous fanpost on this very topic.  Not trying to steal his thunder or idea, I just wanted to put a poll to an interesting question coming off an 0-16 season and 1-23 stretch since starting 6-2 in 2008.

So, it's simple...vote for the game that the Lions will get their first win.  We'll see just how jaded we are or aren't.   I think from the comments, we seemed surprisingly optimistic on the whole.  But not everyone leaves comments, so let's see what this says.

GO LIONS!!!

I'll go for the Saints

I keep reading how smart Schwartz is, well here’s his chance. Word is he like to change his defense from team to team to try to expose the weakness in the other team. He has now until September to try to find the weakness in the Saints. Brees loves to pass, there RB’s are decent at best, and they have a big front four on the D-line.

No way

We beat the Saints. Our secondary cannot contend with Drew Brees’s precision passes. And even with their less-than-stellar secondary, we still won’t make up the points that the Saints will rack up in the firtst half alone

I agree...

that Brees is a badass, but please remember that we have an actual Coach now. So I don’t think the blowouts will be quite as bad as they were. I can actually see a 21-10 or 21-14 game (for the saints) but with avril getting a couple of sacks and me yelling the whole game at jeff backus.

I agree

It won’t be a blowout, but we won’t come up with the W. You bring up having a new head coach, New managment will make it even more difficult to come together against a good squad like the Saints. It’ll take us until at least the bye week to establish chemistry with Schwartz and the coordinators. After that, the schedule gets significantly easier and that’s when the wins start coming in. I do however feel we’ll pull one out against Minnesota

That might be a little ambitious

Remember, we had the second worst defense in NFL history here. To take on a quarterback that came within one play of breaking Dan Marino’s single season yardage record, doesn’t bode well for the Lions. I’m as hopeful as the next guy, but we might be waiting awhile for our first win… maybe even after the Bye week. I voted for a win over St. Louis, although Minny at home in week 2 is a possibility as well.

I go for Minnesota

The 2 Williams should be suspended and that might be the edge we need to put us over the edge. The Lions always give Minnesota a good game and if we can shore up the run defense (Julian Peterson should already help us considerably) we could slow down AP. If Schwartz can overcome their solid defense with clutch playcalling and we make the right plays on offense, the streak will end against the Vikes

I picked Saint

But I’m constantly optimistic

2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).

Vikings go down

In week 2. I think we can beat the Skins too. They started strong last year and all, but really faded toward the end. Clinton Portis saved me in fantasy leagues a few times so I won’t doubt him but the Skins just ain’t that good imho.
Could even beat Chicago, Cutlet is learning a new system too, and maybe throwing in the Windy City compared to the thin air of Denver affects him.
I would like to say that for the past 11 or so years I’m one of the first guys to try and bring other Lions fans back to reality. This year I’m actually feeling good for a change.
