My reason to come here
This post isn`t about upcoming NFL draft or any other related subject. So if anyone isn`t interested in such offtopics just skip this one.
I just wanted to share some thoughts on why this very special place has become the favorite site for someone who lives in a football-free community and a football-ignorant country for that matter (soccer rules here). Well, I’ve been visiting POD for like 4 months now starting from the time when Lions were maybe 0 and 13. I was wondering how come this team can't win single game. Considering all the talks on the internet regarding probable first ever 0 and 16 record I started hoping it would not happen to this team and they would win at least one game, just like Miami did the previous season. Alas. After the last game was lost I remember I was surfing the web reading recaps and stuff, and I found those photographs of Packers` fans holding banners saying things like “They are as bad as we thought they were”, etc. I don`t know why but somehow I felt offended. Actually I had no reason to feel that way since I`m thousands of miles away and Detroit Lions and me…man, it`s different galaxies! But then again, those banners… It’s like your opponent is already on his back and you come up and spit into his face just for the f…of it. I hate that! Maybe I’m wrong or take it too serious? Anyway, from then on I was reading all the news regarding Lions and since my former most favorite site, NFL.com, wasn`t providing too much information on Lions I started looking for any alternative and found Pride of Detroit. Now it looks almost like some sort of obsession, I mean I can't even start my working day without checking POD first, reading all the fresh notes and posts, visiting other links. I really love coming here and read how you guys share your thoughts and communicate. It`s like you`ve got a buddy who`s all about football. The thing is that here in Russia you won’t find too many people that can separate football from rugby and my only friend who actually could moved to another town.
I’ve been rooting for Steelers for last few years but never was that possessed with them. It’s different now. I think Pittsburgh will be just fine but the aftermath of the first 0 and 16 record in NFL history is that from now on I will most definitely root for Detroit (even when they square off against Steelers). Hopefully my satellite operator shows at least one Lions game next season. Otherwise I will track them via internet hoping for the Lions to prove them Packs and the rest that THEY ARE NOT AS GOOD AS THEY THINK THEY ARE.
Thank you for your attention. And excuse me my English, it’s not my mother language.

Welcome to the Pride!
I think you chose a good time to get behind the Lions. It may not be terrific over the next season, but you’ll be on the ground floor of a huge rebuilding project. And for once I have faith that we may have found a coach that can pull it off!
Roustique, We believe in KARMA here.
There is nothing better than being at the bottom and working your way to the top. Pistons, Red Wings, Tigers, have all done it. The Lions are the next Detroit team to do it.
The ride may be bumpy and may be long, but I feel like we have made a change for the better and will achieve some success.
By the way, soccer [the original football] is a great sport. I still play and enjoy watching Serie A and Premier leagues [we don’t get La Liga here].
who let...

yup...
but just to discredit him though the closest year to now the tigers did the best they had one of the lowest salaries in the league and that was a couple years ago when they lost in the series. Then they did try to buy a championship and it failed miserably this past year with carabera renteria and willis. I thank god they are back to doing what they do best with porcello and i think his name is perry? (brain fart atm) which is bring up talent from the farm and and not trade it for a name. Although i love the fact we got Carbarea.

low salaries? Tigers been in top 10 salaries 30 of 34 yrs...
They make as many bad moves as the Lions.Leyland isnt a good manager..started 81-30 ..hes 22 games UNDER .500 since ,with this club ..(262-233 over all ..since 81-30 -hes 181-203) they drafted Matt Anderson over A.Puljous/L.Berkman/A.Sorianio/RoyHalliday (only reason i bring up Matt Anderson-is he threw 61 innings in 4 yrs as a closer—and detroit takes him # 2 overall)
dont get me wrong im a huge Tiger fan , (ive been playing independant baseball for 16 yrs/before that semi-pro football 5 yrs) i love alot of the moves they made (Cabera Willis for Maybin-Miller was great ,Dontrell has been the worse pitcher in MLB history over his last 52 innings ( 52 innings 67 BB, era 16.67) and Maybin -Miller will both be very good MLB players..but M.Cabrera is top 3 hitters in the game and hes 25 yrs old.-he slid to pick 27 because the Tigers could afford him)
Porcello was GREAT draft pick ( even thou that was 100% about $$
im just saying how can u say Tigers built from ground up ..they bought a AL title and are 26 games under since

Hardly
Most of their talent is homegrown. Do they have a big payroll? Yes. But it mainly is because they give their players big contracts after they turn into elite players.

Sean.....
….I was just trying to make the point that both teams did almost the exact same thing……True Tigs Signed Rodriguez and Ordonoez……But wings signed a few guys that were free agents too….I think its unfair how people say the tigs bought there winning seasons…..Thats all

In soviet Russia
Ball foots you! No idea why that’s funny to me but I can dig the sportsmanship from our new friend. It’s really easy to take a shot at the Lions and I’m glad that someone on the complete outside can get behind them.
Btw is the Russian mail order bride thing legit? cuz the chinese one was a complete rip off…darn thing was already dead before I got the box open.
WOW
I am amazed at how well you wrote in a secondary language. Well done. Thanks for taking interest in our team. Maybe some day Russia will have football teams too.
Some people here need to take notes
I am amazed, too. I wish everyone’s grammar was that nice on here.

Your passion for this team will grow more and more!
You will be as happy as you’ve ever been being a Lions fan. You will be mad as you’ve ever been as a Lions fan, and you will be as sad as you’ve ever been as a Lions fan. and that’s just in one game!!!! BUT. You will always love them, forgive them, and cheer for them until the final whistle. We does this because they’re are team are LIons . For whatever reason we are all drawn to them, and if we can stand behind them when the chips are down just wait until they start winning a few games. That city will start getting really excited. The Lions are about three years away from becoming a powerhouse in the N.F.L. That head coach we have just could turn out to be a legend. Go Lions!!!
Thank you all for comments
Frankly saying I didn`t expect so much feedback:) Again thank you. This kind of grammar roots from my work duties. See, I`m an interpreter in an oil servicing company, but when all you translate is geology, seismic exploration and stuff there`s always a concern that you`re able to speak normal language:)
As for “chatting and having good input on subjects here”, well, it could be a little problem for me since I don`t know that much about players, stats, etc you discuss here. But it`s still interesting for me and whenever I have something to say I`ll sure show up.
And JCruize, it`s good Russian! Привет брат!
We the people of the United States
Accept all people of color, gender, and political association. We do not care where you come from. The fact that you are interested in our game, and furthermore our team, immediately warranted you acceptance, especially on this forum. The fact that you know little about players and stats means nothing my friend. You will learn, as your intelligence is obvious. This forum is all about opinions. Even the guys who have been here forever make mistakes, or have opinions that do not necessarily reflect statistics or the views of others. That is the beauty of this forum, and the definition of our freedom of expression. I think it is sad how many people abroad view Americans as cruel and controlling. In reality, a majority of us just want to be free, enjoy life, and expand our personal network of friends. The actions of the U.S. Government are not typically indicative of the voice of the American people. Even though our government is supposed to be of the people, by the people, and for the people, we have representatives who exercise their own agendas, without regard to the opinions of the people they represent. They believe that they are doing what is best for the people, and they believe that they are superior in intelligence and knowledge of what is really going on. While this may be the case at times, it is not always the case. I’m sure you understand where I am coming from. I wish everyone in this world would treat the next person as if he were family. All views, opinions, and agendas aside, we will eventually be forced to come together as an entire race, less we face the downfall of man and the extinction of mankind. The natural resources of this great Earth are not infinite. I believe that we must find a way to share, and preserve, these resources on a global scale. We should all stop fighting over who should get what, and who is right or wrong about God. We should all let the next person believe what they believe and work together to coexist in harmony. To me, it always seems like it is about money, resources, religion, or opinion that brings us to arms. Fighting solves nothing. Why don’t we all just play FOOTBALL to settle our differences? Do we really have to kill each other to solve problems?
I for one appreciate the opinion of everyone who posts here. While I may not always agree, and I may even argue my point, I have no desire to shed blood over our differences. It is nice to see a person like yourself, who has no professional football team to watch, cheer for, or care about in their own country, coming here to read about, be interested in, cheer for, and care about a team within a foreign country’s passtime. Your interest and genuine desire to enjoy our game, has inspired me to write this. Thank you, and may your experience with us be rewarding. :o)
Roustique
благодарю. And I will help you with any questions you have. I am sure most of the fans in here will too.
