T-Minus One Week Until the Draft
We are one week away from the 2009 NFL Draft, so it's time for one final polling of the readers of this site regarding who the top pick should be. Unlike the last edition of this poll, I didn't include B.J. Raji, as it's clear he won't be the pick. The four names listed, however, all seem like legitimate possibilities -- some more than others, of course.
For me, my vote is still going to Aaron Curry. I am warming up to Matthew Stafford, but only to his personality. I still don't think the Lions need a QB right now, especially one that I'm not all that high on. As for the two offensive linemen, I would be fine if either one was the pick. At this point, though, I just feel like the Lions would be better off drafting Aaron Curry.
Vote in the poll below and leave your thoughts in the comments section.

How has Curry been able to fit in all this Charity
With all that is going on for him right now? Stafford? He’s appearing on talk shows….

NO WAY TO STAFFORD!!!!
……Just cant take him……You win in the trenches first……Without a online he will suffer……Get a qb next year…..Schwartz played 8 years unde a guy that won with QBS that werent supposed to win……And dont sat that Stafford is the next Montana….No one knows for sure……I just dont think hes the pick here….I really dont.

WHY?
What is it with Stafford that makes you so weary? You don’t say anything other than you just don’t want him.
And building “the trenches” makes sense, but you can do it after you get the QB. If you wait till next year you may not like the QB’s then.

oooooooooooo
I just read Curry’s agent is meeting with Lewand today. Apparently the agent was also attended the Lion’s mini camp this morning.
I need opinions here. All other draft picks aside. Sims, Peterson, Curry. WTF thats insane!!
Cutler better watch out.

I don't get why
People want Smith so bad… Monroe is a way more polished T and will be far more consistent… If you’re gonna go tackle grab Monroe… otherwise take Curry or Stafford…
I hate that I even included Stafford in there, but I have to agree, it’s hard not to like him.
Problem is, I say that about myself. Doesn’t mean I get paid millions.

Monroe has bad knees
I can see him being an IR guy sooner than later. I agree that he’s better than Smith but Smith can be just as good and is healthy.

Cmon take Curry
With Curry the Lions can truly rebuild with the tough demeanor they want. Focusing on the defense this year in the draft I think is the smart thing to do. Schwartz was just on a team were KERRY COLLINS was the leading them to victories. Before Tom Brady was Tom Brady the Pats were kept in games by there D. It should all be about D here in the D.
P.S.
Who hates the song April in the D as much as me?

hah
Aprillllllll, April in the D
Curry would be sick we’d have dominate linebackers, isn’t that a key to winning super bowls?

no.
no not at all.
LB’s don;t mean a thing if you have no D-Line.

Curry is the pick.
Picking Curry gives the Lions a good set of LB’s. Watch film on him, he’s a beast. With the 20th pick take the best cornerback available. With the 1st pick in the 2nd take either Mack the C from Cal or Moore the safety- another beast. Defense and O-line should be the focus of this draft.

Wake Forest has
a pretty good D-Line that allowed Curry to do his thing. He will not be able to do that for a while behind Detroit’s crappy D-Line.

Impossible to think
we might pick up a DT or two in the draft? It might seem I’m guilty of picking on your posts FB, and I kinda am because you don’t seem to listen to anything anyone says until you fall back to the draft a QB argument.
There’s holes in the d-line and o-line. Curry can’t be good without a dline and Shiny can’t be good behind our oline. So really what’s the problem with drafting Curry? If they do it’s because the Lions brass didn’t want to take the risk on Stafford, do you just really not want to be wrong?
And really why do you care? You’ve admitted countless times you’re not a Lions fan. Is there just no action on the Giants board? I’m just blown away by your mind numbing dedication to our pick and why your thinking is the only possible correct stance.

You should try defending the QB at #1 pick for a change.
Matty, All I am hearing is that Stafford is going to be a disaster/bust, whatever without any real reason why. I have even seen some posts putting Freeman ahead of Stafford. That is insane.
What is the reason for the Stafford hate? Besides that Kiper is touting him? Mayock [for reasons that are not clear] is not excited about him?
I would just like to hear some reasoning behind the anti-Stafford movement.
