Thursday Notes: Lions Check Out USC's Pro Day
- Mark Sanchez's pro day went very well by all accounts. The Lions were in attendance (they had one of the largest contingents there), and Jim Schwartz was actually interviewed by the NFL Network after the event was over. Schwartz didn't really say anything in the interview worth noting other than he was going to fly back to Michigan following his interview to start finalizing the Lions' draft board.
Even though Sanchez's workout went well, I still don't think he will pass Stafford as the top QB in the draft. Many people out there like Sanchez quite a bit, including Mike Mayock (no surprise since he isn't a fan of Stafford), but I still think Stafford will be drafted before Sanchez. - The Denver Post's Jim Armstrong doesn't think the Broncos would want the No. 1 pick of the draft because of the price tag and because picking a QB that early on isn't necessary for a coach that came from the Patriots (Tom Brady was a sixth-round pick and Matt Cassel was a seventh). The first reason mentioned is why I think anyone that would rather have the Lions pick Matthew Stafford than trade the top pick for Jay Cutler is crazy. It would be dumb to pick an unproven player and give him a huge contract when you could have someone that is already proven. It would make no sense to pick Stafford over trading for Cutler.
- You can win $20 over on Mocking the Draft if you can correctly pick this year's Mr. Irrelevant.
- The East-West Shrine Game is moving to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Sanchez over Stafford
I’d rather have Sanchez other Stafford anyway. Having an elite college running back helped out Stafford and I was never impressed by how he played in college. True he played in the SEC and all, but still Sanchez was 4% more accurate and has an absolute cannon. True he had elite talent all around him in USC but he was just a little more pro style than Stafford and didn’t rely on his teammates but fed off there talent. I saw him shred a OSU defense with NFL talent all over it. I just hope Schwartz and Mayhew can see that if we can’t land Cutler.

I was intrigued by Sanchez's pro-day
By all accounts it seems as if it went as well as Staffords. He threw double the passes too, with pressure and everything. Impressive. I still think Stafford will be the pick but Sanchez may have made it a tougher choice now.
2009 = The start of the Lions Golden Age (We hope).
Sanchez would be a good pick
About the only way the Lions could snag Sanchez would be to take an OT at 1-1 or Curry, then trade up with 1-20 for him. I doubt they’ll be able to trade away 1-1, though, and whomever they take there should be ready to play this year and should be an impact player immediately. i don’t see the Lions getting Sanchez and hope they don’t take Stafford either.

What do you think
The chances of us taking a LT 1.1 and then watching one of the QBs freefall into 1.20? Like Clevland did a couple years ago with Thomas and Quinn?
