Rachel Nichols, who will be covering the Detroit Lions draft for ESPN, just reported that "As time grows short, Jason Smith's name floats out there.'' If there ever comes a point in the next 24 hours where Smith, the Baylor offensive tackle, enters negotiations with Detroit -- and there's no evidence of that yet -- then the reason is because talks with Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford have collapsed.

Stafford scares me
I think he’s only slightly better than Rex Grossman, he more intelligent, but not really thinking he’ll be very good without a solid team around him. Whereas Aaron Curry and Jason Smith can both help this team immediately with very little risk in my opinion…. I know this team needs a QB, badly, I just don’t think Stafford will even be as good as Cutler, who has a bigger arm, plus a gunslinger mentality on a bad team is a bad idea. Stay solid and smart, build the foundation, draft from the inside out…. Curry or Smith and I won’t boo on saturday.
I don't need this
I have spent 4 months trying to think of scenarios were we don’t take Stafford. We have less than 24 hours to go and I don’t think I can handle being teased like this Rachel Nichols! All melo-drama aside, Mayhew & Co. rely have done a great job of keeping us guessing. Hopefully there is some truth to the above statement and Stafford will not be the pick.

band or bang?
no to the banging, she’s no Erin Andrews, or even Bonnie Bernstein. Look at me objectifying female sideline reporters right before the NFL draft! Feels sooooooooo football

Stafford's Interview on ESPN
In his interview today he said he has had no contact with his agent and thinks the deal will be difficult to get accomplished. As the time grows shorter I like Curry’s chances of being first overall.
