As much as I don't want him
The bottom line is that Matt Stafford is now a Lion. Simple as that. So, the only prudent thing to do, the only intelligent thing to do is to root for the guy. Root like hell. Even though I have doubts, and we all have doubts, we just need to hope this guy is finally the answer to the problem that's plagued the Lions for half a century. Welcome to the team, Matt.
You'd better be good.

i have a strange Elway feeling about this "mini-hold up"
like he will be 1st picked ,not sign and demand a trade and Lions will get a 4th rounder in 2019 for him

I doubt that Ralphie
He says he wants to play here, I don’t think Elway wanted to play in Indy.

i complained...
before i saw the story about it being official. I wanted Curry very badly, buts its time to put that behind now.
GO STAFFORD!!

I'll be rooting for him
Theres no sense in complaining and crying about it, let’s instead hope for the best. Personally, I can’t wait for CJ and Stafford to get some cooperation going, they have the potential to be the most potent QB-WR tandem in the league. Or am I just drinking too much Kool-Aid?

It was win-win for me
I’d have been happy with either Stafford or Curry. But yes, I am happier that they chose Stafford. I think we’ll come away with a MLB at some point in this draft as well. At some point we had to make an attempt to get that guy that can take our offense to the next level. I think that day is finally here. It may take a few years for him to mature into a good NFL quarterback, but I feel pretty confident that he’ll do well. We’ve got a great offensive coordinator that will play to his strengths and Linehan’s strengths are to stretch the field. Now Stafford to Johnson will be a staple in Lions fans ears for years to come.
I think the Lions will be committed in the coming years to giving Stafford a good line and a defense capable of getting the ball back to him. I hope the next 7 picks this weekend go as well.

How long before Linehan, Cunningham, and Schwartz.....
Get fired because the Lions can’t win a game with an 80 million dollor pretty boy on the bench?

Oh C'mon KDawg....
How long are we all gonna pout over this? I’d say roughly until Stafford starts to win and show a little talent. Then all is well and everyone’s on board.
Yeah, he could be a bust. So could Curry. So could Jason Smith. So could… on and on and on and on…
I’ve got a little more optimism in the Lions now. Everyone should.

Congrats, Drew
and to Stafford and the Lions as well. I wanted Curry but am now happy Stafford is a Lion. Don’t like the contract, but hey, maybe (hopefully) he’ll be worth it. Haven’t had a decent QB since, well, since…shit. I’m an old guy and even I can’t remember.
GO LIONS!! GO STAFFORD!!

Don't get me wrong.....
I love the dude’s personality. I want him to succeed. I hope he becomes a Hall of Famer.
I just fundamentally think this not the way you rebuild a team that went 0-16.
I hope Mayhew and The Schwartz are right. I hope I’m wrong. But the odds are a QB #! overall doesn’t pan out.
Hopefully all of us fans are idiots and they’re geniuses :)

I love the "I hate the guy and think that...
he’ll absolutely suck and is the worst draft pick of all-time, but I’ll support him" response I’m seeing everywhere. The outrage over the pick is unfounded. You just have to trust that the Lions have done their homework on this one.
I’ve probably been the most vocal person on this site for 6 months about Stafford. Maybe it was more about getting a good quarterback than Stafford specifically, but I like the move obviously. I really do think the guy will succeed. Hopefully, I’m right. If not, well… I guess I’ll be wrong :)

that's because that response has been the status quo for almost 8 years now...
it’s like a default response. Most of us had our consolation posts ready to go before it was even announced, just on principle.

Trust? What the FU</< are you talking about?
Trust went out the window when Detroit, 2nd worst defense in the league takes a quarterback bench warmer with the first pick. Trust was destroyed when a team owned by Ford (how much money did they loose last quarter 1.5 billion) decides to pay an unknown 78 Mill with 41.7 guarenteed over 6 years. There is no trust when you give a 4:00 deadline and say your pick MUST BE SIGNED before the draft then say you will pick him regardless. Please wake up! This team is going no where fast.

Ford the Auto Company does not own the Lions, you can be pissed of at WCF for screwing us as fans and taking our third favorite pick that won’t do shit his first year in the league, but don’t blame the auto company. If you want to blame Ford Auto for something blame them for producing shitty cars.

I have to defend Ford Auto here
Both my wife and I own Ford vehicles, and we are completely happy with them. I own an F-150, while the wife owns a Focus. Sheeze, lighten up on their autos already. At least their American.

An there quality has declined over the past years. An yes the reason for this decline is they were trying to compete with low cost foreign cars made by non-union works with cheap subsidized material. An there is no way they big 3 could compete because the union made it hard to reduce wages so they had to skimp out on quality to try and turn a profit, it’s just a product of globalization that I hate. I support American jobs and the union,

Yeah, I call bullshit Drew
Seriously? No offense, as this is more of a rhetorical question than anything, but how long have you been a fan of the Lions? Trust the team that has not produced a single all-star or even DECENT TEAM in recent memory?
I am a huge backer of the Lions in general, but given the shitty (being generous here) track record of Detroit’s acquisitions, I’d have to say, no, I don’t have any faith that they have picked the man who will herald the dawn of a new era. Luckily that leaves me only positives to find out, if in fact, he is worth the eqivalent of making $700,000 a year for the next one hundred years…
I am absolutely of the school of thought that I hate the pick, but I’ll be behind him 100%. I don’t have to like everything that’s shoved down my throat, but I’ll swallow it. (I know I’m asking for dumbass remarks to that)
With that said, let’s all get behind Matt and hope for the best. I have a feeling it’s going to be a rocky road to Super Bowl stardom for ol’ Matty Ice.

OK, anger is starting to subside
but I’m gonna say one more thing about supporting the pick and cheering for the Lions…
we’ve been backing this team for a long time now, cheering and buying Joey, Charles and Boss jersey’s. Selling out games and basically being good little fans, and gotten garbage for it besides a record breaking (for ineptitude) team that is the laughing stock of sports…
So last year we got the 0-16 and fans were finally saying screw it I don’t care anymore and the team is going to be garbage until WCF is gone. Now, I’m not a fan of Shiny by any stretch of the imagination…duh…so it tears me a new one that we’d pay a record setting contract for an unproven kid. And everyone is instantly supposed to jump back on the sinking ship because there’s a face on it now?
And no, I won’t support him til he plays and does well…the thing is we all get to wait at least 1 season to see if he’s good or not. I won’t be holding up a sign that says Suck It Staff at home games either…
I’m glad for the fans who got their guy. Really I am. But I’m not going to put on smiles and rainbows until the Lions can show they’re not the worst team in history X2

We're the fans.....
That’s the thing…..The forumula for the Lions and Matt Stafford to win over the fans is simple…..
JUST WIN FOOTBALL GAMES
You do that, we’ll name our newborn children “Matt” and “Martin”. We’ll have parades in your honor for finishing above 0.500. We’ll name streets after you.
But keep losing football games….well then we’ll run you out of town, call you bad names, and hurt your feelings.

What a JOKE!
Worst Defense in the league pick a quarterback and decide to pay a LOOSER like stafford 41.7 guarenteed over 6 years, 78 mill total. Root for him, you have to be stupid. I was born and raised in that joke of a town Detroit, I AM DONE with that team. They SUCK! I hope they go 0 – 16 again. No body deserves it more. I am finally free of that team and their gay new look. Good luck selling tickets this year Ford. I will also never buy a Ford EVER!
