Trade Stafford

When I woke up this morning and heard the news about the contract, I was upset to say the least.  What I want to know is if a trade is possible?  I want to know if a packaged Stafford contract can be lofted to somebody else?  I am really angry especially due to the size and nature of his contract.  I have a knot in my stomach and do not like this feeling at all.  I waited very, very long for this day and feel like my house just got broken into.  I feel cheap, used, and left to deal with this pain all alone.  Can somebody help me out?   This is not good.

Thank you

Thanks for your help…I feel much better. I would love it if this trade went down. I am a bigger Khary Campbell fan than Jason Campbell but I like that trade. I would hope many Lions fans would too. Trade Stafford!

I don't see it happening

I’d be very surprised if a trade involving Stafford were to go down. I mean, I’d like the extra picks but I’m not a huge fan of Campbell. I say stick with Stafford.

Wow. He's our guy

There won’t be a trade. Get used to it and get behind him. It’s time to show our support as fans. Give the guy a few years to succeed before you throw him under the bus. I’m not enamored of the contract either but what’s done is done. Now he needs to prove himself on the field and it won’t help with all the fans booing and not showing support.

Youtube helps

There are some great Stafford Highlight films that my friend sent me to help the grieving process. I feel much better after watching Stafford seamlessly thrust the ball to the receivers. This is a process for me, but Stafford does have an incredible arm. Calvin Johnson is probably going to beat many receiving records. I do trust Schwartz, it’s just that something doesn’t feel right.

Unbelievable

The Lions are not trading Stafford. Are you really serious about this post? Sheesh. A full year of preparing for this draft… all the time and effort put into to scouting all these players… they pick what they feel is the best one… then they trade him? Honestly.

I was hoping to come on the site today and see that people got a good night sleep and soaked in the news about Stafford. Even if they didn’t agree with the pick, they’d understand the HE IS OUR NEW QUARTERBACK, try their best to help him succeed. Guess I overestimated a lot of fans.

“sigh”…. this is gonna be a long day on here today…

by DrewsLions on Apr 25, 2009 12:22 PM EDT reply actions

What expectations from this post are wishful?

If I read my comments again, I don’t see that I even listed any expectations. But then again, why is it wrong to be hopeful or optimistic? I’m sure it’s much more fun to be pessimistic and miserable about the situation and be sarcastic and complain 24/7. I’m just not built like that. Rather be hopeful, friend. Life is simply too short to hate everything. And trust me on that last sentiment.

Have a great draft day, KDawg.

And I quote

“I was hoping to come on the site today and see that people got a good night sleep and soaked in the news about Stafford. Even if they didn’t agree with the pick, they’d understand the HE IS OUR NEW QUARTERBACK, try their best to help him succeed. Guess I overestimated a lot of fans.”

That my friend is wishful thinking…..and while I am a person who will stand by my team through thick and thin, I do not fault anyone for being disappointed or even cynical. The Lions have given us fans no reason to be optimistic or content. I agree that life is too short to be sarcastic, pessimistic, hateful, or even to complain 24/7, but we are less than 24 hours from a HUGE decision that was made by our beloved team. To expect that everyone will be rosy and smiling is “ridiculous”…..;o)

KDawg...

I’ve tried to “reach out” to you a little over the past few weeks, but I can see that you don’t have much respect for my opinions… and that’s fine. It really is. But I want you to know that I do think it is okay to feel disappointed and let down. I’ve commented that many times.

I just don’t know how you can be so sure that the Lions made a huge mistake. What makes you so sure… sure enough to basically wreck your draft experience and be in such a foul mood? That’s what I’m referring to. It’s not about forcing people to have unrealistic expectations of Stafford, it’s about just getting people to stop jumping to such foregone conclusions and admit that there is, at the very least, a small chance that Stafford ends up being a good quarterback in this league and for the Lions. That’s all I’m looking for.

Your opinion is yours and while I disagree to an extent, it’s fine to feel that way. I just disagree with being so overly negative during a time of potential hope. Lighten up and enjoy the draft today, man. I have no ill will towards you and hope that the rest of draft helps shed a little of that anger and negativity. Life’s too short for all that hatin’.

by DrewsLions on Apr 25, 2009 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I do respect your opinons Drew

And I also agree with you on many valid points that you make. The Stafford pick is not going to ruin my draft experience, or my life. I will move on. But for now, I am disappointed and frankly, pissed off. I do not mean to bring you or anyone else down, but my opinion will be heard, right along with yours. We may be representing opposing viewpoints, but I do not hate you or anyone else. As the day goes on, and I drink more beer, my attitude will change…..hang in there buddy…..lol.

Thanks, man.

I really do hope that you have a blast watching the draft today. I’ll have a beer for you myself!

You can't trade him

Not gonna happen, especially not with a contract in place. Calm down relax and gear up to 4 pm when the whole shebang actually starts.

GET EXCITED THIS IS YOUR TEAM!

Yippee

I for one WISH they would trade him, but I also agree that it will not happen.

Get behind

Getting behind the Lions frnchise makes it easier for them to crap on us…they’ve done it for decades…NO I won’t just decide that oh..the same guys who worked during the Millen era have suddenly wised up and turned into football genius’.
They held Curry in front of us like a twinkie for a fat kid…all the smoke and mirrors were for the fans? That makes sense to someone? Why would they do that when they were obviously willing to pay whatever the hell Condon said they would. It was a slap in the face, punch in the gut and kick in the sack for everyone who’s been paying attention to the draft talk for months now. Add this to the fact that Detroit fans are already terminal due to the record setting failure we’ve endured for the last 50 years so no, I won;t get excited. I’ve been the guy for the last 10 years telling everyone to not get their hopes high. I was almost feeling good about the team this year…cautious optimism and I’m glad I kept it cautious cuz we just got screwed again

We don't really need you here...

to tell us all not te get excited about the ‘09 Lions. Some of us just don’t share that sentiment and frankly, it’s depressing. I’ll be joyfully watching the draft and every game this season looking for signs of improvement, drinking the Kool-Aid by the gallons. Why be so pessimistic?

There are so many great things that have happened this off-season that we can all be excited about. Including the SEVEN remaining picks over the next two days. How can you be in such a depressed state when there is no where to go but up and the front office has taken some very positive steps (starting with the coaching staff – which is a dramatic upgrade).

Just try to sit back and enjoy the draft as it unfolds today, okay? Things are not as bad as you paint them.

by DrewsLions on Apr 25, 2009 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Drews

I’ve taken your post with a grain of salt becuase you’re obviously frustrated that not everyone is willing to slurp the Kool Aid with you, so I won’t take it personal but I’ll voice my opinion on any subject I feel strongly about and I don’t want to be told by BerryRz drinkers that I should just sit down and have a glass of Lemon Lime with em,
I’m pessimistic because the franchise has been pissing into the wind for my entire life and this is another step back in a long line of historic bounding backwards to me.
Don’t share my opinion fine…but don’t tell me I’m not needed for something on a public blog for Lions fans. Which is the only way I have of noting my dislike of moves made.

Drew

I like you buddy…..please don’t feel like I am ganging up on you with Matty. But he is right….he has the right to express his opinion and to foster his ill feelings about the Lions. He is a fan, just like you and me. My Mom told me, if you don’t like what someone is saying…..don’t listen. If you don’t like what you see, don’t look. If you get caught up in something that you can’t change, walk away.

by KDawg on Apr 25, 2009 1:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I can not change the Lions

And I refuse to walk away…..but by God if I want to say that they Fed it up big time, I should be allowed that right. The advice my Mom gave me does not always apply, but it is useful for some situations, especially in discussion of opinion.

by KDawg on Apr 25, 2009 1:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Matty... I re-read my comments...

and I didn’t AT ALL mean that we don’t need you on this blog. That was a very, very poor choice of words. I greatly value your opinions and I’ve agreed with you on issues in the past.

What I really meant was that I don’t like comments that try to bring everyone down on a day that is supposed to be a fun and exciting day. I probably shouldn’t have even posted that. That’s not really what I’m about at all. Look through some of my past fanposts and you’ll see that I’m an alright guy.

You are perfectly fine feeling the way you do. The Lions have been a horrible team for a long, long time and it’s natural to feel that way. Parts of my comments I do still stand by, but anything that you took as a personal attack… I humbly apologize for.

by DrewsLions on Apr 25, 2009 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions

You are a great guy

Don’t beat yourself up…..just realize that those of us who were thinking DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE!!! are not going to be as happy or optimistic as those of you who have wanted Stafford all along. There is no disperity here…..just disappointment, concern, and love for a team that might not deserve it. We are all on the same side…..even if our opinions differ. I would high five you and drink my beer, while laughing and smiling, right along side of you if we were at the game together and the Lions were winning. Hell, even if they just scored in a losing effort I would high five you. We are complete strangers, but alas we are human. You posted something that has been shown to you to be one sided…..so what. LOL! Nobody is perfect.

Drew

K-Dawg wants to know if you would like to go out to the Olive Garden for some wine and pasta after the draft tonight.

:P Just playin’ guys…

So honestly, KDawg...

are you going to be at all happy when you see Stafford holding that Lion’s jersey today?

by DrewsLions on Apr 25, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Hey

No worries, like I said I wasn’t taking it personally. I was trying to bring people down I guess, misery loves company and this pick is making me miserable…
Again, no worries and I ain’t going nowhere. Neither is Shiny. I have to live with that.

by MattyZ on Apr 25, 2009 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

We can't trade him

The Lions are the only team willing to pay this much money to the 6th or 7th best player and the 2nd best QB in the draft.
